Missions Update from La Palmilla (8/11/15)

Our missions trip to La Palmilla ended several weeks ago, but missions leader (and PUMC’er) Jennifer Andrade has remained in Mexico for a few more weeks.  She recently sent the following update…   Missions in La Palmilla, Veracruz, Mexico… Missions and ministry are alive and well in the rural village of La Palmilla! PUMC’ers take Mission to La Palmilla (7/15/15)

Our mission team has safely arrived in La Palmilla Mexico!  For the next two weeks they will be working with our Mexican friends to help complete the construction of their sanctuary.  The church in La Palmilla is a United Methodist Church that’s bursting at the seams.  There’s not a lot of funding for a construction project in that village, but there is a lot of love for Christ and a lot of desire to share His Word. One of the Mission Team members, Chris Valianti, posted the...

Abramovichs Send Update on Mission in Poland (6/1/15)

John and Dasia Abramovich are missionaries in Poland, using their gifts to teach the Bible to children and youth.  John grew up near Pitman, and Dasia is from Poland.  John and Dasia are both very familiar to PUMC as they have visited us and taught Bible studies during their recent “furloughs” in the States.  They recently sent the following update message…        Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. (Matthew 5:6)....

Mexico Mission Benefits from Men’s Cooking and Yard Sale (4/26/15)

On Saturday April 25, 2015, the United Methodist Men’s Fellowship served up one of our “famous” breakfast buffets.  The buffet was open not only to serve up a great Saturday morning eating experience, but also to help us serve a church in La Palmilla Mexico which needs help to finish the construction of their new sanctuary.  The buffet was held in conjunction with a yard sale.  Vendors paid for table space, and those proceeds went to the mission. About 110 people dug into the...

Local Praise Teams Support Church in Mexico (3/22/15)

On the evening of Sunday 3/22/15, some of the best praise teams from area UMC churches came to PUMC to present a concert.  It was not only a time of worship, but an opportunity to support a sister UMC church in La Palmilla Mexico… The Methodist church in La Palmilla may be economically impoverished (at least according to our standards), but they are rich in their love for the Lord and in their service for His Kingdom.  But, they’re bursting at the seams and they really need a new...

Praise Band Concert @ PUMC to Support Mexican Church (3/22/15)

For years, our church (along with several other local UMC churches) has been supporting a United Methodist Church in La Palmilla, Mexico.  This growing congregation has been struggling to build a new sanctuary that will enable them to further their ministries in this poor region of Mexico.  Later this year, a missions team will travel to Mexico to assist in their construction efforts. On Sunday March 22 our church will host a Silent Auction and Praise Band Concert to raise funds for this...

PUMC Welcomes Pitman Craft Show Visitors (9/20/14)

Pitman was a hub of activity on Saturday September 20 as it held its bi-annual Craft Show.  Broadway was closed off as vendors lined the sidewalk with tents filled with their artistic wares.   Our church was also busy!  We’re located about 1/2 mile away from the show, and we shared our parking lot with visitors and provided free shuttle rides in our church van for the short ride to the craft show area.  The Men’s Fellowship Group also threw one of their “famous”...

Pitman Craft Show: Park for Free at PUMC! (9/20/14)

The Pitman Craft Show is a huge community tradition that attracts visitors from all over the area. Broadway, Pitman’s main street is blocked off, and vendors set up their wares on both sides of the street.  There is some parking on the streets around Broadway, but finding a spot is difficult. We’re offering the public an easier way.  We’re opening up our parking lot for Craft Show visitors, and we’re providing transportation to and from our parking lot and the downtown...

Pray for Missionaries in Honduras

One of the items topping our national news lately has been the flow of children from Central America to the US who are fleeing the violence and poverty in their homelands.  The politics may be controversial, but the story reminds us that we need to be in prayer for missionaries around the world who are our “boots on the ground” ministering to the poor and sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. World Gospel Mission (WGM)… Missionaries Joy Phillips and Meg & Scott Rambo have...

Jim Hughes to speak at Camp Meeting (7/27/14)

Rev. Jim Hughes will be the “speaker” at next week’s Camp Meeting service.  The service is held in the Pitman Grove Tabernacle, starting at 7:30. Jim has a unique style of preaching the Word.  Using music, costumes, and drama, Jim draws the congregation into the story of the Bible.  We learn how Nicodemus may have felt after his night time encounter with Jesus.  We get a look into the motives of Judas.  We see the love and invitation of Jesus in a fresh way. Jim has...
