Choirs & Praise Team

Music

As with many activities in this “Covid era”, the “Voices in Praise” adult choir schedule is currently transitioning back to some sense of “normal.”  Rehearsals have been held occasionally after the service, and we haven’t been singing every Sunday.  But as conditions improve, we’ll return to our “normal” Thursday evening rehearsal schedule and return to the loft on Sundays.

Please keep an eye on the Home Page’s  “Current Events Ticker” for schedule updates and details.

“How good it is to sing praise to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise Him!”

Psalm 147:1

The music program at Pitman United Methodist Church seeks to Praise God, serve God, and inspire those in the loft and in the pew.

We have a variety of musical ensembles for all ages in which to participate.

As we join our voices or instruments in music, we seek to come together to Praise the Lord! It is a blessing to give our time and talents to the Lord, and we invite you to join with us and to become part of that blessing!

To God be the Glory!

VIPS:  Voices in Praise (Adult Choir)

The Voices in Praise Choir is our adult choir, ages high school to ???!  This group leads the music of our 11:00 worship service throughout the year, September through June.  We sing a variety of styles, ranging from contemporary, African American Spirituals, and through the tradition of the classics.

Voices in Praise Choir

Voices in Praise Choir

For over eighty years, this choir, as well as other musical groups in the church come together for our annual “Candlelight Cantata,” that is held the Sunday before Christmas, at the traditional time of 4:15 p.m.

They also present special music during the Palm Sunday, Holy Week, and Easter celebrations. Occasionally, we join together with other church and community choirs to present such major works as Handel’s Messiah, and Faure’s Requiem.

The Voices in Praise choir “season” runs from mid-September to late May.  During that period, we rehearse on Thursday evenings in the sanctuary choir loft.

Praise Team

The Praise Team leads the music during the worship services throughout the year.

We sing primarily “contemporary” praise music, but our repertoire also includes many traditional hymns of the church.

Alleluia Bell Choir

This is an Adult Bell Choir which plays several times throughout the year.  We also  “take our show on the road”  and present our music ministry at the Pitman Manor.

We rehearse on Thursday evenings in the Gathering Room (upper level of Education Wing).

Instrumentalists

Throughout the year, especially for our Easter and Christmas services, we welcome the addition of a variety of instruments. If you are interested in being a part of any of these special groups, please contact our music director.

If you have any questions about any of our musical ensembles and opportunities to serve in the music program, please contact our music director Sue Crispin, at music@pumc.org.

Refer to the “Current Events Ticker” on the home page of this website for details on when we’re rehearsing.
