During the month of March (and even before) we built up to that climatic Sunday called Easter! But all of a sudden, the strains of the Hallelujah Chorus are over, the last bits of Easter Ham are in the fridge, and Easter is over. Other than some left-over dinners, what can we take from Easter that will continue to grow us closer to Christ?
Pastor Mike looked at this question in his cover article for the April edition of Steeple Notes (PUMC’s church newsletter)….
What Now???
The letdown after a holiday can be hard. All the work that goes into making the holidays so festive, along with the preparation of the meal, and we hope all goes well. This even “hits home” within the church if we are being real with ourselves. We put so much work into allowing our Easter services to be welcoming for those who may be new to the church, and so much goes into the excitement of the day and then…what?
Then the real work begins, as our former District Superintendent Rev. Glenn Conway would say, WE ARE EASTER PEOPLE! The same message rings true for every single week that Jesus has conquered the grave! Although, there is a small let-down of emotion after any holiday, it does not stop the excitement of the message.
The book of Acts is one of the most exciting books to read. Why? It is the beginnings of the church. Let us tell with excitement the message story just as the disciples did and never grow weary in doing it. We have many opportunities this summer to show the love of God and tell the message of Jesus.
How can you be a part of this? Let the excitement continue as we roll into summer with many opportunities to carry on the message of Jesus! In Matthew 28 the disciples are given what is called “The Great Commission” and may we continue as believers to tell the wondrous story.
