Quizzes….  Fun?!?  When they don’t count for a grade and when nobody knows how you did, they can be fun.  And, they’re a great way to stretch your mind a bit and learn more about the Bible (and about the church).

This page will give you a few minutes to do just that.  Shown below is the latest in a series of short quizzes.  The quizzes are changed each week (Sunday midnight).  So while you’re getting ready for church, or if you’re in a mid-week slowdown, try the quiz!

If you’re new to these quizzes and need some technical pointers on how to use the quiz software, click the below “drop down” box to open the instructions….

Instructions

While Taking the Quiz…

  • To answer a question, click the “toggle switch” (or photo) that’s next to the correct answer. When selected, the “toggle switch” will point to the right.
  • Sometimes, the correct answer will be immediately highlighted (and an explanation will appear). Read the explanation before moving to the next question.
  • To move to the next question, click the “Next” button after you’ve selected your answer.

Uh-Oh…

  • Some of these quizzes are timed! If you see a timer countdown number on your screen, complete the quiz before it reaches 0. Otherwise the quiz will be automatically submitted “as is.”

After Taking the Quiz…

  • When you Finish the quiz, your score will be shown on the top of the page.
  • You can then scroll through each question to review the right answers and explanations.
  • The right answer will be enclosed by a Green Box. If you selected a wrong answer, it will be enclosed by a Red Box.

Give it Another Shot!

The quiz will look different each time you try it. The questions on most of the quizzes are randomly chosen from of a larger poll of questions (on the same topic). So, each time you try the quiz, you’ll see some different questions. Keep trying and watch your score improve.

Who Am I?  (Four Letter Names)

This quiz is a bit different; it’s fill in the blank instead of multiple choice.  But, ALL of the answers only consist of four letters!  The Bible is rich with stories about a lot of different people, and many of their names are spelled with four letters.
Consider each “Who Am I?” clue, and answer by entering in the name of the person who is described.  The answers are not “case sensitive,” so don’t worry about capital letters.  Just enter the 4-letter name and hit “Enter” (or click/tap the “Next” button).  This quiz has five questions randomly selected from a larger pool.  The questions will change on each attempt, so keep trying!

QUIZ START

#1. People thought I was crazy when I built a big boat. But then it started to rain…

Noah

Because of humanity’s increasing sin, God decided to destroy the world and start over.  He saved a remnant of Adam’s race by directing Noah to build an Ark that would protect two (male and female) of each species (including humans).

The story of the Flood and of Noah is found in Genesis chapter 6 through 9.

#2. I’m a “Minor Prophet,” but I’m not Joel. I wrote about a plumb line and a basket of fruit.

Amos

Amos wrote to the Northern Kingdom of Israel (as opposed to the southern kingdom of Judah) at a time when things were going pretty well economically.  But, the people had disregarded the poor and had become prideful in their possessions.

He used a plumb line to show that they were no longer true to God’s righteousness and a basket of fruit to show that they were “ripe for judgement.”  (Amos chapters 7 and 8).

Joel is the name of another Minor Prophet (they’re called “Minor” only because their books are shorter than the “Major Prophets” like Isaiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel).

#3. You might think that I’m a “Piano Man” in love with an “Uptown Girl,” but I wrote one of the “Minor Prophet” books that end the Old Testament.

Joel

Nah, not Billy Joel!

Joel’s book comes right before Amos’.  He warned Judah of a famine, and talked about plague of locusts that would destroy their crops.  The locusts were also a metaphor for the Babylonian army which was poised to invade Judah.  He called the people to repent, saying “who knows, God may turn and have pity…”

#4. I was the first human being!

Adam

Adam wasn’t born like the rest of us.  Instead, Genesis 2:7 says that “the LORD formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

Genesis 2:20 identifies “the man” as “Adam.”

#5. I was one of the 12 Disciples. I wrote a Gospel, several letters, and the book of Revelation.

John

In his Gospel, John frequently referred to himself as the “disciple whom Jesus loved” (John 13:23, John 19:26, John 20:2, and others).

In addition to the Gospel of John, he also wrote 1, 2, and 3 John, and the book of Revelation.
