Who Said That??? (NT)

One of the cool things about the Bible is that it’s full of people in real situations saying real things.  There are many familiar verses declaring a point of theology (such as “All things work together for good…”).  But what about the people involved in the stories of the Bible?  Does the quote remind you of a story, and can you name the person who said it?
In each of the following quotes, select the person who is most known for saying it.  Note that the questions in this quiz come from an unusually large pool, so keep trying.  You’ll see 5 of the questions on each attempt.

You’re listening well!  You knew who said all of these things.

But there are other things that people said… try the quiz again and see if you can keep getting 100%

Hmmmm…  There were some good guesses, but you missed at least one.  Give it another try.

#1. “…but you are making it a den of robbers.”

Jesus

Matthew 21:12-13

12 Jesus entered the temple area and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves.  “It is written,” he said to them, “‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’ but you are making it a ‘den of robbers.’”
NIV

The temple is also called a “den of robbers” in Jeremiah 7:11

#3. “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself?”

Martha

Jesus visited the home of two sisters, Mary and Martha.  Mary recognized the importance of being with Jesus, but Martha was bogged down in the details…

Luke 10:38-42

38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him.  She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said.  But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things,  but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
NIV

#4. “What is Truth?!?”

Pilate

“Truth,”, “Right”, “Wrong,”… these are answers we seek even today.  But we can’t define right and wrong; Truth isn’t subjective.  Truth is defined by God’s will and character, and the condemned prisoner who was standing before Pilate embodied that Truth.

John 18:37-39

37 “You are a king, then!” said Pilate.

Jesus answered, “You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”

38 “What is truth?” Pilate asked. With this he went out again to the Jews and said, “I find no basis for a charge against him.
NIV

#5. “Sir, you know.”

John

Throughout the book of Revelation, John is a witness.  We see many phrases such as “I saw”, “I looked”, “I heard”, I turned”, “I fell.”  But (perhaps), the only instance in Revelation of John speaking was this humble statement of submission.  I don’t know.  I can’t understand.  But I trust You Lord…

Revelation 7:13-15

13 Then one of the elders asked me, “These in white robes — who are they, and where did they come from?”

14 I answered, “Sir, you know.

And he said, “These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
NIV
