United Methodist Mens Fellowship
The United Methodist Men’s Fellowship at Pitman United Methodist church isn’t a select group. It’s simply the men who associate themselves with our church. To join with us you simply need to be of the male gender and somewhere above the age of 17 years old. You won’t be carded; either for age or for church membership.
The purpose of our group is to give the guys of the church a place to “hang out” with other guys. The fellowship gives us a unique opportunity to share our faith, share our doubts, ask questions, and to grow in our faith as fathers, husbands and sons.
Here are some of the things we do…
Monthly Gatherings…
Occasionally we get together for an hour or two on a Saturday morning to study the Bible with a guest speaker. These gatherings usually start out with some kind of food (donuts & coffee when we meet in the morning, or pizza and things even more nutritious when we meet in the evening). They are a great time to chat about pressing spiritual and social issues such as the latest painting jobs, flat tire episodes, golfing escapades, sports, leaky toilets, fish stories; you know- the things that men usually do while the women are off doing other things.
The gatherings then take on a deeper tone as our guest speaker begins his presentation. Each gathering featured a different speaker; the studies are all stand alone. If you’ve never attended a gathering, don’t feel that you’ll be lost if you show up all of a sudden. You’re always welcomed!

Men’s Retreat…
For the past 17 years we have taken a weekend to join with a speaker and take a weekend retreat to share in food, fun and discussion over a theme that is of concern to men.
We have been holding our retreats at the Black Rock Retreat Center in Quarryville PA (about an hour away, down route 1). Black Rock offers different sleeping accommodations; anywhere from a cabin with 9 other snoring men or a motel room. All meals (starting with Saturday’s breakfast) are included.
Service Projects…
Ever spend a couple of hours on a Saturday morning picking up trash along the roadway? Believe it or not, when you’re with a group of friends and when your effort earns money that helps fund a mission or outreach project, spending a morning like this is actually pretty fun! During the year we will also take part in similar “fix it up” projects around the church and outside the church. We’ll also help out some of our own members. As James said (paraphrased), what good is your faith if it doesn’t reach out and help others?
We also hold several “Breakfast Buffets” this year. This is a breakfast that we cook and serve on a Saturday morning that raises funds for ministries in our church.
Non-Service “We’re-Just-Having-Fun” Events…
Sometimes we all just need a night out. No heavy discussions, no responsibilities. Just a chance to spend some time with some friends. One of our favorites is an evening of bowling. Kinda painful and even downright embarrassing, but it’s always fun and the pizza is usually good! We’ll plan on doing some similar events this year too. Stay tuned…
