Here’s a testimony from an 11 grader that was recently posted on the Urban Promise website…
I started coming to Urban Promise just 1 year ago, and in that year…
- I’ve done community service And helped organize a canned food drive.
- I’ve worked with teens from other schools on projects.
- I’ve been hiking. I slept in a tent. I made my own food. I rode a bike for 250 miles.
- I helped plant a garden. I built a boat.
- I’ve been to Washington, DC. To Massachusetts, To New Hampshire. I’ve been to Colorado, And Utah. I’ve visited 5 different National Parks. I visited the White House, and the Smithsonian.
- I canoed on the Cooper, I raced a Dragon Boat on the Schuylkill and did a 4-day paddle on the Delaware River.
- I caught lobsters in Maine.
- I’ve been a part of Students in Action And Outdoor Leadership Training, and now I’m running for Student Council.
- I spoke English for the first time in front of a group of people.
- And now I’m standing here in front of you.
- Just over a year ago, I was living in Puerto Rico. I had done none of these things. But when an experience comes up and I catch it in my eyes, and it stays in my eyes—I have to do it.
- I believe I must take every opportunity that is offered to me. It just turns out that at UrbanPromise, there are LOTS of opportunities.
