Our Missions Team compiled this “global tour” of updates on the Missionaries that we support.

Press Report from Bethlehem! (12/22/19)

In what is becoming a Sunday before Christmas tradition, Rev. Jim Hughes visited PUMC and gave us a first hand account of what happened on that First Christmas.  This year, he appeared as Amos, a newspaper reporter who happened to be covering the beat in Bethlehem on that wondrous night. Amos challenged us to go beyond being a casual and impartial observer of Jesus. Become part of the story.

No Ram Caught in the Thicket (Camp Meeting, 8/11/19)

Rev. Jim Hughes preached at the Camp Meeting on 8/11/19. On this evening, he didn’t present his customary first person dramatization. Instead he painted a vivid picture of two sacrifices on two hills linked by eternity. God provided a Substitute for Abraham, and for us. But there is no substitute for Jesus.

Kafakumba Pastors School is 55 Years Old!

In the Great Commission, Jesus tells His followers to Go- make disciples.  All over the World.  Years ago, Americans Ken and Lorraine Enright took that command to heart and did more than just think or talk about it.  They went to Africa, and eventually established a Pastor’s School on the shores of Lake Kafakumba (in what is now the Congo).  The Kafakumba Pastor’s School is now 55 years old. For a background on what the Kafakumba Pastor’s School is, check out their video...

PUMC Helps Send Mexican Kids to School

One of the ministries we support is a United Methodist Church in La Palmilla, Mexico.  They are a growing church without the financial means to provide the resources needed by their ministry.  For years, we have raised money and sent mission teams to La Palmilla to help them build a new sanctuary.  The construction has finally been completed, and the church dedicated their new sanctuary in 2016. But sending their children to school is another difficulty they have.  In the US we take it for...

Missionaries Jim & Alice Vanderhoof to Visit PUMC! (4/15/18)

We’ll have a chance to catch up with them on Sunday April 15 (both services).  Jim and Alice will report on what they’ve been doing and to witness to what the Lord has been doing through them.  After serving on the mission...

Daffodils and Diapers Help Sick and Needy (3/25/18)

The day was Palm Sunday; a special sabbath for celebrating the arrival of our King and Savior into Jerusalem. But like any other opportunity when we gather, it was also a time to reach out and help the needy.  Palm Branches helped us worship, but Daffodils and Diapers helped us to help others.   Daffodils Each year at this time, we sell pots of daffodils.  These yellow flowers do more than to just brighten up our springtime homes;  the proceeds go to the the American Cancer society to...

Remembering Missionary John Enright (12/26/17)

Long time PUMC’ers probably remember supporting Ken and Loraine Enright during the 1980s (and beyond).  The Enrights were missionaries in Africa, using their airplanes to bring medicine and the Gospel to remote areas in Zaire and the other African countries they ministered to over the years. Ken and Loraine have both passed away, but their son John took up the mantel. Unfortunately, we recently lost John when he was killed in an automobile accident on the day after Christmas (2017).  His...
