On Friday 9/20/24 PUMC held an Open Mic night which was dedicated to bringing Jesus to everyone involved. This Christian Open mic night welcomed musicians from across South Jersey who presented a variety of songs. The music ranged from original, to contemporary, to traditional. The Gospel Message came from guitars, piano, organ, and acapello voices. It was an evening of celebrating Jesus and our relationship with Him.

On Saturday 9/14/24, PUMC hosted our “First Annual Car Show.” The parking lot was adorned by 73 classic cars displayed by their skillful owners. During the day, hundreds of people wandered through the display. We wondered at the beauty of restoration and chatted with the skilled car owners who brought these old vehicles to life and keep them running.. It was a party atmosphere on a beautiful day with neighbors, food, and music.

Pastor Mike made his Pitman Camp Meeting debut on 8/18/24 as PUMC hosted the service. In his message, he pointed out that life is like a wild ride in an amusement park. We need to hang on to something that’s secure, strong, and eternal. The only way to have that security is to hold on to Jesus.

On Sunday 7/7/24 we welcomed Pastor Mike Chapman and his family to our PUMC family. Pastor Mike’s first sermon urged us to “Speak Jesus”; we are called to be a light that shows Jesus to our community. After the service, the celebration continued with a covered dish lunch.

PUMC is part of the “Greater NJ Annual Conference” of the United Methodist Church. Once a year, representatives from each church gather to approve legislation, celebrate accomplishments, and to worship and to prepare for upcoming opportunities. The conference was held in Wildwood between May 19-21.

In April of 2023, Pastor Jim alerted us to an article he had read about a project to deliver emergency lights to the people in Ukraine. The Missions Team latched on to the idea of sponsoring some of these lights. Nearly a year later, the lights we funded have been handed to the Ukrainian people who desperately need a “ray of life” to shine in their lives.

In August 2023, wildfires destroyed much of the town of Lahaina on the Island of Maui in Hawaii. UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) quickly responded, and by the end of the month PUMC had contributed to the efforts by taking two special offerings.

Once again, the PUMC community participated in the American Red Cross’ summer blood drive. This drive was held on 7/13/23. The result was an important addition to the area’s critical supply of blood; 25 units were donated, potentially saving the lives of some of our neighbors.

On a crisp October day, 51 PUMC’ers boarded a bus to travel to Lancaster PA to attend Sight & Sound’s presentation of “David.” We discovered an imperfect person who was still “a man after God’s own heart.” We also discovered how this perfect God is “after our own hearts”.

As we watched our kids search for colored eggs and treasures hidden within, we were reminded that God is inviting us to search for a deeper relationship with Him and for the treasure of a life that’s filled with purpose, assurance and eternal joy.
