On the evening of Sunday 3/22/15, some of the best praise teams from area UMC churches came to PUMC to present a concert. It was not only a time of worship, but an opportunity to support a sister UMC church in La Palmilla Mexico…
This Summer (from July 16 through 27) a mission team consisting of members from PUMC and other local churches will head to Mexico to support our friends in La Pamilla. Our mission team has three goals:
- Raise money for the continued construction of the new sanctuary.
- Physically contribute to the labor on the construction (which in turn helps them save money on labor costs).
- Live among them and share the love of Jesus with the congregation.
As we share our love of Jesus with this church, we also support them in their efforts to take the Good News of God’s love and redemption to people of Veracruz Mexico.
Silent Auction…
In order to raise funds for the La Palmilla church, we held a silent auction in the Fellowship Hall before (and after) the concert. Items were on display and people wrote their bids on sheets next to each item.
Interesting items sold included Flyers tickets, an Eagles autographed football, a handmade quilt, gift certificates to local restaurants and businesses, hand crafted wooden items, and different baskets filled with candles, cleaning supplies, Christian books/DVDs, bath & body relaxations items to name a few. One of the most popular items bid on was a handmade candy dispenser made by Pastor Glenn Chaplin. Although the retail value was only $20, the bidding was so fierce that the winner paid $100!
Items were supplied by individuals and local merchants
(Thanks to all for your generous donations!)
Praise Band Concert…
The concert featured six “Praise Bands” from four local United Methodist Churches:
Each group sang two or three songs, and everyone in attendance was treated to a special time of worship. At the end of the concert, all of the bands got together for a rendition of “Carrier”
(We’re called to be carriers of love and devotion… and with the change in our pocket we can change the world!)
Praise God!
About 200 people attended, and between the love offering the auction items sold, we raised $4,075! All of that will go towards the building fund.
