Christmas Decs 2014- Missionary Tree Vanderhoof _IMG_1284You may have noticed that one of the Christmas Trees recently displayed in our Narthex was filled with ornaments reminding us of the missionaries across the globe that we support.

Here’s an update on Jim & Alice Vanderhoof…

Mission’s Bulletin Board…

Did you know that we have a year round constant way to remind ourselves of our missionaries and to catch up on what they’re doing?   In the Fellowship Hallway, there is a bulletin board dedicated to our missionaries.  The board is frequently updated with pamphlets, pictures, letters, and other information from the missionaries we support.  We need to be in prayer for all of our missions, and the bulletin board is one tool we have to help us do that.

The board is a window into the missions, global and local, that we’re supporting.  Below the bulletin board is a display case providing further information.

Stop by and  check  it out sometime!

Recently we received some letters from Jim and Alice Vanderhoof, and these letters are on the display case.

Jim and Alice Vanderhoof have served the Lord in Kenya for thirty years. They serve as World Gospel Mission (WGM) Field Directors; visiting, mentoring, encouraging, and supporting all of the WGM missionaries and volunteers in that part of Africa. In this capacity, Jim and Alice regularly communicate with all of the missionaries to hear about their spiritual journeys , and learn what God is doing through them in Kenya. They offer advice and encouragement, solve problems, handle paperwork and other administrative tasks, and do whatever else is necessary to move the ministries of the missions forward.

Jim and Alice both teach at the Kenya Highlands Bible School, and the Kaboson Pastors School; and assist in the worship ministry, evangelism, discipleship, and church planting at the Immanuel Africa Gospel Church. Additionally, they conduct seminars, for pastors, leaders, missionaries, and congregations, to help them be more effective in their lives and ministries; provide positive experiences for visiting volunteers and work teams; and mentor believers to live holy and committed lives.

Jim is also an accomplished pianist. You may remember when he performed his rendition of the song “Please Don’t Send Me to Africa” when they visited PUMC a couple of years ago.

Jim and Alice are eager to provide training opportunities, especially for cross cultural missions in African churches. Together they dream of mobilizing and training many Christians in East Africa to identify and reach nonbelievers.
After thirty years of teaching and ministry at the Kenya Highlands Bible College and the Immanuel Africa Gospel Church, Jim and Alice are delighted that their former students are now colleagues and friends who minister with them. They feel that they are at the beginning of a great wave of ministry, with young leaders emerging, who will take the church to a whole new level.
The Vanderhoofs write to us frequently, to update us about their life and work in Kenya; and to thank us for our prayers and support. Their letters can be found beneath the bulletin board in the social hall.
