Redbird Mission

The Red Bird Mission is located in the Appalachia hills of southeast Kentucky.  It is an area populated by some of the poorest people in the country, and it is served…..

The Red Bird mission is actually an official “mission conference” of the United Methodist Church.

In August of 2013, our church sent a missions team to Red Bird to repair the floor of an elderly couple’s home.

One of the regional mission projects that we support with our prayers and benevolent giving is the Red Bird Missionary Conference. “A witness for Christ in the Heart of Appalachia”

The Red Bird Conference Center is located in Queendale, Kentucky. Geographically, they serve in parts of ten counties in southeastern Kentucky, a radius of approximately 90 miles over mountainous terrain.

Even broader than the territory is the diversity of ministries involved as they seek to minister to the needs of the whole person; spiritual, physical, educational, and economic. The total work of the Red Bird Missionary Conference includes: twenty seven churches and outreach centers, four agencies, a conference camp, and a pastors school. All entities are engaged in both evangelism and service; and work together in mission. The churches provide worship and spiritual nurture; and also reach out to the physical needs of their communities. Agencies provide basic human services; and do so in the name of Christ.

Red Bird Mission’s Community Outreach Ministries provide vital services to those in need.

  • Senior Citizen Center: enables residents to receive health, socialization, recreational opportunities, and congregate meals.
  • Home Care: provides housekeeping, personal care, care giver respite, and transportation services to the homebound.
  • Meals-on-Wheels: delivers hot meals to the homebound
  • Maternal Infant Health Outreach: promotes the physical and emotional health of mothers and children, and provides assistance with basic needs, and problem solving by linking families to needed services.
  • Summer Youth Activities: provide growth, learning, fellowship, and Christian education for area youth. Recognizing that camping experiences and spiritual growth opportunities for those with special needs is extremely limited, camps for deaf children and a cancer retreat, are now annual events.

  • Emergency Support, and Food, Clothing, and Transportation Assistance: provide basic necessities to more than 900 families. Many faces in many places depend on their support.

The staff and volunteers of the Red Bird Missionary Conference feel that God continually calls them to be inclusive in their ministries, witnessing for Christ to all persons, and helping all persons reach their potential.
