Men’s Fellowship Looks at Challenges and Joys (12/13/14)

The Men’s Fellowship group met on Saturday 12/13.  It was one of our early morning meetings that gave us the chance to start off a new day by looking into God’s Word.  Our guest speaker was Gino Curcuruto, and we looked at Luke 10:1-2, 17-22. Because of our relationship with Christ, we should want to “hang out” with those who don’t know Him  We should want to build relationships and allow the love and hope that we have as redeemed people of peace (see Luke 10:6)...

PUMC Hosts Gloucester County Community Chorus’ Presentation of The Messiah (12/9/14)

The Rowan College at Gloucester County and Community Chorus presented their “Holiday Cheer Concert” in our church on Tuesday night (12/9/14).  It was a busy night…. The choir members joined us in our weekly Tuesday dinner, and then we filled the sanctuary to enjoy the concert.  During the concert, several of our weekly small groups and studies met as usual, and  Narcotics Anonymous held their weekly meeting in the Fellowship Hall.  Our sanctuary was full… and so was our...

PUMC Kicks Off and Steps Off in Pitman Christmas Parade (11/29/14)

One of Pitman’s finest traditions comes on the Saturday before the first week in Advent.  People from all over take part in the annual Christmas Parade, and then everyone heads over to the Hagerty’s to see the opening of their annual Christmas lights display.  The parade starts in our parking lot and then continues down Broadway, through the downtown area, and then ends smewhere around Ballard Park. This year, in addition to hosting the parade’s starting point, we entered our...

Tuesday Nighters Decorate the Sanctuary (11/25/14)

Many of us took a night away form our usual  Tuesday night studies to help our church prepare for Christmas.  “Christ” “Mas” literally means “celebration of Christ,” and one of the things that  focuses us and helps us to Celebrate Christ  is the traditional decorations of trees, garlands, and Nativity Scenes. Both before and after the usual Tuesday night dinner, we “hung the greens” and got into the Christmas spirit.   Here’s a quick ...

PUMC Builds Christmas Parade Float (11/23/14)

On Sunday Nov. 23 we had just heard a sermon about some faithful Canadian Geese and about the mounds of mashed potatoes and delicious turkey we’d be enjoying later in the week.  But on Sunday afternoon, about 30 of our members gathered in a garage to build our float which will be entered into the Pitman Christmas Parade.   The parade, which will begin at our church parking lot, will be held on Saturday 11/29 starting at 5:00PM. In addition to the tasks of stuffing handout packets and...

Our Fathers House & Elderberries Sing and Feast! (11/19/14)

On the morning of November 19 2024, the children from Our Father’s House presented a musical program in the sanctuary; the kids were “Marching in the Lord’s Army” and “Making Us Fishers of Men.”  The energy the kids presented while singing this whole series of short “Sunday School” songs was inspiring and entertaining. The sanctuary was filled with not only camera toting parents, but also with seniors from our church.  This event bridged young...

Tuesday Night Group Studying the Lord’s Prayer (11/18/14)

Tuesday Bible Study with Pastor Jim… Since the middle of October, Pastor Jim has been leading an in depth study of the Lord’s Prayer during the studies on Tuesdays.  The classes are held in the morning at 9:30 and then again in the evening after dinner (starting at 7:00 PM).  Both groups meet  in the Potter’s Hand room (on the sanctuary balcony level). We’ve been taking it phrase by phrase… Our Father- Abba, Daddy.  Prayer is real- not a vain repetition Heaven-...

PUMC Celebrates the Gift of Life (11/16/14)

In our Narthex on Sunday, an organ donor and an organ recipient shared their experience with our congregation.  One person can save or enhance the lives of more than 50 people.  More than 123,000 Americans are waiting for life saving organ transplants.  Tragically, 18 people die each DAY because the organs they need are not available.  But anyone can help save lives by deciding to be an organ and tissue donor. PUMC has a special connection and appreciation for this Gift of Life.  Several years...

Bishop John Schol (Greater NJ Annual Conference) recently sent the following message regarding Dr. Martin Salia.  Dr. Salia was a United Methodist and a doctor in Sierra Leone.  Dr. Salia contracted Ebola in Sierra Leone and was recently flown to the United States for treatment.  But his disease was too far advanced for him to be healed, and Dr. Salia passed away this morning (Monday 11/17)… Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, When people hurt, United Methodists help. PUMC Dedicates Quilts Made for Victims of Domestic Violence (11/9/14)

The Scrappy Quilters is an outreach ministry of PUMC whose members use their sewing talents to reach people in need of a special touch. During our worship services on Sunday November 9, the altar table (and even the piano!) were covered with quilts and afghans.  These were made by our Scrappy Quilters, and they will be donated to women who are victims of domestic  violence. During the worship services we lifted up these un-named victims and prayed for them.  When they receive and use these...

PUMC was the place to be on Saturday 10/25/14; both in the morning and in the afternoon!  God blessed us with perfect weather and we were able to open our doors to the community and to help install doors on a sanctuary in Mexico…  Breakfast Buffet / Yard Sale… In the morning,  our mission was to help our sister church in La Palmilla Mexico build their sanctuary.  Our United Methodist Men’s fellowship group did this by throwing a breakfast buffet.  And, while that was going...

Our Father’s House Fall Festival Rises to the Occassion! (10/17/14)

On October 17, the Fellowship Hall was busy with with tables filled with  Tupperware, Arts, Crafts, Cosmetics, pies, and cakes.  It was the Our Father’s House annual “Fall Festival”. The Fall Festival raises money for the OFH Scholarship Fund. We do all we can to help families afford this wonderful opportunity that we call Our Father’s House.  Thanks to this year’s Fall Festival, our Scholarships are fully funded and families with tight budgets won’t have to...

County Residents Get a Shot at PUMC (10/22/14)

During the planning and construction of our church building (which opened in 2007), we recognized that we have a responsibility to serve our community by sharing our facilities.  PUMC frequently serves as a “community center” which is available for people outside of our church. Next month, our Fellowship Hall will be used as a voting location.   Today, our Fellowship Hall was used by Gloucester County to administer flu shots.  The Department of Health has scheduled 36 Flu...

Our Father’s House Learns About Fire Prevention (10/7/14)

As part of Fire Prevention Week, a big red fire truck pulled up to our church. Yes, our church does have a sensitive spot for fire trucks, but no- this wasn’t an emergency.  Instead, the volunteer firefighters from Pitman’s Highland Fire Company were on hand to teach the kids about fire prevention and to show them how they fight fires.                 The kids had a chance to check out the truck and even to try on a raincoat…  ...

Our Father’s House’s September Success! (10/1/14)

Each month, the Our Father’s House preschool is featuring a verse of the month and providing opportunities for the kids to live out the verse by participating in mission projects. During September, the verse was I John 3:23-24… And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us.  Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us....

PUMC Welcomes Pitman Craft Show Visitors (9/20/14)

Pitman was a hub of activity on Saturday September 20 as it held its bi-annual Craft Show.  Broadway was closed off as vendors lined the sidewalk with tents filled with their artistic wares.   Our church was also busy!  We’re located about 1/2 mile away from the show, and we shared our parking lot with visitors and provided free shuttle rides in our church van for the short ride to the craft show area.  The Men’s Fellowship Group also threw one of their “famous”...

Tuesdays Return to PUMC! (9/16/14)

OK.  Tuesdays did actually continue through the summer, but our Tuesday Bible Study / Dinner took a break. The Tuesday series resumed this week, Tuesday Sept. 16.  A  lot of good things happened:  Before Dinner At 9:30 AM Pastor Jim led a study on the opening parts of John 3.  Yep- that’s where “John 3:16” comes from (you may have seen it on a sign at a sporting event!).  Anyway, we learned that there is a difference between the “Natural World” (being born of...

Our Father’s House ’14-’15 School Year Gets Off to a Great Start! (9/8/14)

On Monday 9/8, our church’s Preschoool ministry (Our Father’s House) began it’s 6th season. Our “crossing guard” Yogi was once again on hand to greet the kids and teacher’s as they arrived.  Yogi celebrated his birthday shortly before the school year began, but the kids brought him cards when they arrived at school.  The cards may have been a bit late, but how precious they were! Each month of the school year will feature a new “verse of the...

South Seaville UMC Opens New Doors! (9/7/14)

Back in 2004, our church building was destroyed by fire.  For 3 years we worshiped in a school, theater, and converted hardware store.  In 2007- after much anticipation and work- we moved into our new (current) building. About 3 years ago, another local United Methodist Church began a similar journey when their church building burned down.  (Read More).  But today (9/7/14) the South Seaville United Methodist Church opened the doors of its new building and celebrated their first service of...
