Back in 2004, our church building was destroyed by fire. For 3 years we worshiped in a school, theater, and converted hardware store. In 2007- after much anticipation and work- we moved into our new (current) building.
About 3 years ago, another local United Methodist Church began a similar journey when their church building burned down. (Read More). But today (9/7/14) the South Seaville United Methodist Church opened the doors of its new building and celebrated their first service of worship.
We built on a different site. South Seaville rebuilt on the site of their old building.
But both churches have learned the truth about steeples and mortar and brick- they’re only buildings. The church is the people, not the building. Or, more specifically, the church is the Holy Spirit moving through the people of God.
So it doesn’t matter where you put your building. What matters is where the people of the church put their hearts and priorities.
And so, we celebrate with the people of the South Seaville United Methodist Church. Welcome home! We will continue to lift them up in prayer as they continue to minister to their community.
Here are some pictures taken on this historic day…
“I rejoiced with those who said to me, ‘ Let us go to the house of the Lord.’ “
