PUMC Dedicates Quilts Made for Victims of Domestic Violence (11/9/14)

The Scrappy Quilters is an outreach ministry of PUMC whose members use their sewing talents to reach people in need of a special touch. During our worship services on Sunday November 9, the altar table (and even the piano!) were covered with quilts and afghans.  These were made by our Scrappy Quilters, and they will be donated to women who are victims of domestic  violence. During the worship services we lifted up these un-named victims and prayed for them.  When they receive and use these...

PUMC Welcomes Pitman Craft Show Visitors (9/20/14)

Pitman was a hub of activity on Saturday September 20 as it held its bi-annual Craft Show.  Broadway was closed off as vendors lined the sidewalk with tents filled with their artistic wares.   Our church was also busy!  We’re located about 1/2 mile away from the show, and we shared our parking lot with visitors and provided free shuttle rides in our church van for the short ride to the craft show area.  The Men’s Fellowship Group also threw one of their “famous”...

PUMC to Make Turbans for Cancer Patients (9/25/14)

Cancer itself is bad enough, but the treatment also frequently brings the indignity of hair loss. On Thursday September 25, a group of ladies are going to do something about this by making turbans for cancer patients.  We will meet in the gathering room from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The American Cancer Society makes these available to the patients at no cost. This has been an ongoing project of the Pitman United Methodist Church for a number of years. If you would like to be a part of this, come...

Cottage industries often grow out of the sewing classes where women use these kits to practice valuable income-generating skills. Beginning in September, we will...

Pray for Missionaries in Honduras

One of the items topping our national news lately has been the flow of children from Central America to the US who are fleeing the violence and poverty in their homelands.  The politics may be controversial, but the story reminds us that we need to be in prayer for missionaries around the world who are our “boots on the ground” ministering to the poor and sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. World Gospel Mission (WGM)… Missionaries Joy Phillips and Meg & Scott Rambo have...

Please remember to return your coin-filled baby bottles for “Choices of the Heart”. Checks should be made payable to “Choices of the Heart.” A...

Help Promote Peace with Justice (6/15/14)

On Sunday June 15 we will be thinking of fathers and celebrating the ways that godly fathers reflect the love and glory of our Heavenly Father. But on this same day, we will be called to reflect on the lives of children who don’t have fathers.  Of those who are living in poverty or are refugees in a war torn country.  The lives of many families across our country and across the world are under constant threat. Here are a few examples of how the United Methodist Church is using resources...

We have completely finished collecting for our mission project with Heifer International.  As a school, we collected a total of $732.  With that money, the...

PUMC Gives Wings for Redbird (4/20/14)

Somebody Needs to Help These Poor People! Years ago, PUMC member Don Beckett and his wife were driving through the hill country of Appalachia.  Surrounded by poverty, Mrs. Becket said “somebody needs to help these poor people!”  Years later, Don had lost his wife, but he never lost his wife’s plea on behalf of the poor children in Eastern Kentucky.    In 2013 a team from our church journeyed to Red Bird Mission, which is in the center of the Redbird Mission Conference of the...
