Pastor’s Ponderings: Worship is a Living Sacrifice (June 2025)

Pastor Mike wrote the following thoughts for the cover article of  the June 2025 issue of Steeple Notes (PUMC’s church newsletter).

What does it mean to be a Living Sacrifice?

Here’s what Paul wrote to the Christians in Rome…

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God – this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Romans 12:1-2

God doesn’t need our money…

You have heard me say many times that the offering is an “act of worship” because spiritually, it is an act of worship. I am convinced God does not need our money. Paul tells the church in Rome as we desire to be living the life that Jesus desires, we are pleasing God and that is worship.

What is Worship?

The term “worship” has taken on a new meaning in the life of a church. The Christian world of music has exploded with new styles and the crowds have filled stadiums. Let us remember what pleases the Lord the most is a heart that desires to follow the scriptures and living for Jesus.

There are so many aspects of worship:

  • This summer we will worship by going to La Palmilla Mexico to build a library.
  • The youth in our church will attend Malaga Camp
  • The Youth will help encourage Philadelphia Project in rebuilding homes in need of repair.

Worship is when our hearts burn for the Lord…

May we worship in our living a life that is pleasing to the Lord. We will not be perfect until heaven, but may our heart burn for the Lord and not the world.
