DS Rev. Jisun Kwak Visits PUMC (8/3/14)

Our new District Superintendent, Rev. Dr. Jisun Kwak,  is busy trying to meet the people and churches of the Delaware Bay district. Our district is made up of 68 churches covering parts of Salem, Cumberland, and Gloucester counties (the district office is in Woodstown).  So it’s quite an undertaking for a new District Superintendent to become acquainted with all of the churches in our district. On Sunday August 3, we were honored to worship with Rev. Kwak during our 11:00 service. After...

PUMC Welcomes the Boltons! (7/6/14)

We welcomed Rev. Jim Bolton, wife Judy, and daughters Rebecca and Lindsey during their first Sunday with us on July 6.  As Rev. Bolton said at the beginning of the service, “Worship should be fun!”  And it certainly was an uplifting celebration as the Boltons joined our church family.  A pastor is not only the guy in the pulpit, but he (or she) is also a vital part of our church family.  We are thrilled that the Boltons now call PUMC their home! Who Am I???   Pastor Jim and his...

PUMC and its members were actively involved in the celebration.     PUMC was at the beginning of the parade…. The parade organizers selected PUMC member Mary Lou Hagerty (also affectionately known as...

Azaleas Planted in Memory of Ed Blackman (5/12/14)

For over 50 years, our church was graced with the presence and guidance of Ed Blackman.  We all felt a deep sense of loss when he recently passed away. As we pray for Marge and her family, we will be continually grateful for their presence in our lives. The Blackmans donated some azaleas which were on display during our services on May 11.  They were recently planted on our lawn, just outside of the sanctuary doors on the Lambs Road side.   These plants will remind us of the grace and love that...

Transition? New Pastors? God’s already got us covered! (5/3/14)

In the United Methodist church, pastors are appointed to a church for one year.  Usually, pastors are re-appointed to their current church, but true to our heritage of serving with “circuit pastors”, change is inevitable.   All appointments in our conference begin on July 1.  In the weeks leading up to that date, things can get pretty hectic for the churches which are changing pastors.  A “dance of dominoes” begins where pastors move from parsonage to parsonage and...

A life in Christ is a life lived in love.  A life lived in love is one that gives.  As we teach our children the “ABCs,”we also need to teach them how to give and love.  At Our Father’s House, Mission is part of the curriculum.  Here’s an update on the mission projects that Our Fathers House is conducting…. We have completely finished collecting for our mission project with Heifer International.  As a school, we collected a total of $732.  With that money, the...

Easter EGGcitement!!!- Easter Egg Hunt (4/19/14)

For weeks, the PUMC congregation donated bags of candy.  On the day of Maundy Thursday, the Elderberries (our Senior Adult group) gathered together to fill 2600 plastic eggs with candy.  Then the day of our annual Easter Egg Hunt arrived on Saturday morning, and over 200 children were in our church! What’s an Easter Egg Hunt at  PUMC?   If you’re a kid, it’s a bit of everything!  First you get a chance to decorate your own “Hunting Bag.”  But if you’re...

Posted by on Apr 20, 2014 in EventReport | 0 comments

Many in our community began their Easter Sundays by attending the community Sunrise Service which was held at the Alcyon Lake Park Pavilion.  This year’s service was coordinated by the First Presbyterian Church of Pitman, and the service was led by their pastor, Rev. Pat Weikart.  Several other local pastors took part in the reading of litany and scripture.  The Presbyterian Church’s bell choir led the music. The scripture readings focused on God’s protective and life giving...

Palm Sunday 2014- Grace Present, Past, and Future (3/13/14)

Abounding Grace… The choirs presented an entire musical service for Palm Sunday (April 20, 2014). The service  opened with the traditional singing of “The Palms”, as children weaved between the pews to welcome the Savior into our midst.   As we’ve seen in our recent Lenten devotional series, we are surrounded by God’s grace; unmerited favor.  Grace that draws us near to God, grace that leads us to accept God, grace that makes us more like Him.  The musical...
