The news of the invasion and suffering of the people in Ukraine is currently dominating the news and our hearts. We pray for the men, women, and children who are struggling just to get by and stay alive.
The United Methodist Church, through UMCOR (“United Methodist Committee on Relief”) is already on the ground, helping with humanitarian supplies.
To support this effort, we will take a special offering during our services on Sunday March 6 and 13 Pastor Jim recently sent out the below message…
Greetings Friends,
As United Methodists we are concerned for the well being of all people. God calls all people of the community of faith to provide humanitarian assistance where needed. As we are all aware the country of Ukraine is being attacked. The need is great and continues to grow each day. As God’s people called United Methodist we have an opportunity to come alongside the Ukrainian people in the wake of the Russian invasion of their country.
I invite all of us to continue to be in prayer for the people of Ukraine, as well as the countries who are welcoming and extending hospitality to those fleeing Ukraine.
I also would like to let you know that we will be having offering plates available for the next two weeks at worship so that we can provide financial assistance through the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), specifically, UMCOR International Disaster Response and Recovery. This fund will provide direct assistance to those in Ukraine as well as assistance to Ukrainians fleeing to neighboring countries.
Please know that one hundred percent of all contributions to UMCOR go to the designated cause, in the case, the Ukraine’s.
The United Methodist community in Ukraine, though quite small, is actively engaged in assisting neighbors in need. UM Global Ministries is in touch with the church’s leadership as well as with church leaders in countries welcoming those who are fleeing from violence in Ukraine.
Let continue to keep the entire situation in prayer.
Thank you for your care, concern, and participation.
Pastor Jim
