The annual District Day of Learning, sponsored by our Delaware Bay District, was held at our church on Saturday March 1, 2014 from 8:30 – 3:00 PM. The day started with a continental breakfast in the Fellowship Hall and then it moved into the Sanctuary for a time of praise and worship.
A Time of Worship…
The theme of the worship service was “Prayer Matters”. It featured a message
from Rev. Sue Flicker reciting the Lord’s Prayer while being interrupted by a “voice from above” (God). When we recite the Lord’s Prayer, do we really know what we’re saying? Do we really mean what we’re saying?
This year’s District Day of Learning was attended by about 300 Methodists representing churches across the Delaware Bay; from Gloucester, Salem, and Cumberland Counties.
A time of Fellowship…
In between the Morning and Afternoon workshops, our United Methodist Women provided a lunch of soup, salad, and deserts. The lunch hour provided a great opportunity to “mingle” and touch base with friends from across the Delaware Bay District.
A Time of Learning…
During the day, Laity and Clergy from across the conference presented about 20
workshops dealing with a wide rang of topics regarding church management (finances, committees, etc.). But the day also had a missional emphasis to it. We learned about witnessing, ministering to those in prison, sharing our faith and developing leaders. Many also left the building to participate in several local missions (such as the Pitman Food Pantry).
In order for our churches to be “vital” and to impact our communities with the Gospel of God’s love and grace, we need times such as these where we can learn at the feet of experts in various fields and to share about our experiences. The 2014 District Day of Learning brought us together in fellowship and empowered us as we set out in service.
