Youth Building Buckets for Flood Relief (10/29/17)

Imagine that your home has been flooded.  The smell of mildew is everywhere.  Dirt coats the floors and counters.  One of your biggest needs is something we take for granted: cleaning supplies.  Buckets, soaps, laundry detergent, sponges, trash bags… the list goes on and on.  As part of the United Methodist Committed on Relief’s (UMCOR) efforts, our youth have started a project to collect items to assemble “Flood Buckets.”  These buckets will be filled with specific...

His Love Makes no Sense!

Members of our BLAST Youth group recently returned from a week at Malaga Camp.  The theme of the week was God’s love.  How can God send His Son to dies for us and continue to love us even when we keep on rejecting Him and breaking away to do our own thing? One of the people attending the camp wrote the following… “His love makes no sense.”   I turned to the woman next to me (who later would become a new friend) and cried, “Why does Jesus love me so much? I don’t deserve...

BLAST to Fight Hunger by Washing Cars (5/20/17)

It’s called the “30 Hour Famine.”  Our Youth Group (Big Loud Awesome Spiritual Time) participates in it every year, but this goes beyond a simple fast.  In addition to taking some time for spiritual reflection, we’re also going to make a difference for people who have no choice between eating and not eating.  And as part of that reflection, we’re also going to improve the reflection of the cars in our community! On Saturday May 20 (between the hours of 1:00...

BLAST- Feed and Games! (2/20/17)

Our Youth Group keeps active in many ways.  Sometimes it’s all Fun and Games.  Other times, it’s expressing God’s love through some serious (but fun) service. BLAST celebrated this Presidents Day weekend in typical fashion.  First by having some “Where’s Waldo” fun at the Deptford Mall on Sunday.  And then on Monday by serving breakfast at the New Visions Day Shelter in Camden.   Where’s Waldo? The Deptford Mall is a familiar place for most of us...

BLAST Refocuses Trust During Mid-Winter Advance (1/15/17)

On January 15, 2017, BLAST returned from our annual youth retreat, MidWinter Advance (MWA) at America’s Keswick in Whiting, New Jersey. Our group was made up of twenty-five youth, young adults, and leaders.  The retreat that was filled with fun, fellowship, and faith. The four-part message, led by the college team, focused on Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your path.”...

BLAST Getting Ready to Advance! (1/13/17)

Our Youth Group (BLAST) is ready to take off into their Midwinter Advance.  What’s the Midwinter Advance?  First of all, it is probably more commonly known as a “retreat,” but we  always want to look forward so we’ve latched on to the now cliche term “Advance” instead of “Retreat.”  The Advance will be held at America’s Keswick in Whiting, NJ during the weekend of January 13-15. In preparation for this weekend, our youth have been raising...

Youth Set to “Lighten Up” in September (Sept. 2016)

Youth Director Kate Dilks recently announced the September 2016 Schedule for BLAST (our Youth Group).  The focus this month (and beyond!) will be John 8:12… When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”    NIV   Our goal at BLAST this year is to be a light to each other, to our church, and to our community, just as Jesus is our light and beacon of hope. Here are...

Purple Potty Makes the Rounds for Malaga Camp!

Summer is a great time, and all of us look forward to the change of pace and vacations. Our Youth Group (BLAST) is especially looking forward to some special times at the Malaga Camp this summer. The “problem” is that these camps are kind of expensive.
Not being one to sit around without flushing out the problem, BLAST is raising scholarship money by working as plumbers!

30 Hour Famine: Youth to Save Starving Kids by Fasting! (5/6/16 – 5/7/16)

Youth- sometimes our Youth Group (BLAST- Big Loud Awesome Spiritual Time) occupies themselves by spreading gop and goo.  Sometimes they go on roller coasters or climb rocks.  But sometimes they have a blast with a fast.  A BLAST… by not eating???  Teenagers??? Yep!  BLAST also has a blast by helping others.  Last year we served breakfast at a homeless shelter, raised over a ton (literally) of food for the Pitman Food Pantry, and participated in many other ministries to help us learn more...
