Thread ‘n Yarn Ministries Extend God’s Love (2/19/17)

Colorful Ministry on Display When we arrived in church on Sunday February 19, the altar rail was draped with a huge collection of beautifully knitted, crocheted and quilted items.  Over 75 of them were laid on the altar so that we could lay hands on them in prayer.  These items are used to extend God’s love, through PUMC, through blankets and shawls, to those who are in need. Each item was lovingly created over the last 6 months by the Hooks ‘n Needles ministry and the Scrappy...

BLAST- Feed and Games! (2/20/17)

Our Youth Group keeps active in many ways.  Sometimes it’s all Fun and Games.  Other times, it’s expressing God’s love through some serious (but fun) service. BLAST celebrated this Presidents Day weekend in typical fashion.  First by having some “Where’s Waldo” fun at the Deptford Mall on Sunday.  And then on Monday by serving breakfast at the New Visions Day Shelter in Camden.   Where’s Waldo? The Deptford Mall is a familiar place for most of us...

PUMC to Host Blood Drive (1/27/17)

On the afternoon of Friday January 27, our Fellowship Hall will be the site of a Red Cross Blood Drive.  Give blood?  Why??? Due to various causes, the blood supply is currently dangerously low. This isn’t about the blood supply across the country, or across the state, or even across the region.  This is about the blood supply in our area hospitals! On Friday January 27 (from 2:00 – 7:00 PM), PUMC will do their part so you can do your part.  If you’re able, consider making an...

Trunk or Treat Entertains 900 Guests at PUMC! (10/29/16)

We opened our church for our annual Trunk or Treat on Saturday 10/29/16, and an estimated crowd of 900 people visited our parking lot and Fellowship Hall.  Guests could wander through the parking lot to view a variety of decorated trunks, jump in our bouncy house, or just to wander around our grounds on a clear evening.  Families then headed inside the Fellowship Hall to bob for donuts, bowl, eat, or just to mingle with other kids and families. Not only was a great opportunity for some family...

Parent’s Anonymous Group Begins Meeting at PUMC!

Being a parent is probably the most important job you’ll ever have… and it’s the most difficult… Do you have teenager?  Are you worried about what they’re tweeting or posting?  Are you suddenly in the throws of having to find a college and helping your teen get a driver’s license? Or maybe your child is younger.  What do you do when the baby keeps waking you up throughout the night?  What do you do when your son is bullied at school? Where do you turn when...

“PokeMon Go” Stops by PUMC!

Our church signboard has been chosen as a “PokeStop”! If you’re used to playing the video game “Pokemon Go”, you know what that means. If this is total gibberish to you, we’ll give a quick intro to Pokemon.
Either way, all of us need to keep returning to The Vine for strength.

PUMC to Join with Local Churches for a Community BASH (5/7/16)

Are you ready for a big BASH?  Bash???  It stands for: Believing Acting Sharing Helping Our church (and the Delaware Bay District that we belong to) is seeking to move Gospel out of the church building, engage with the community and make a difference in the lives of individuals.  God’s not contained in “God’s House” (as we call the church), and we don’t want to always hang out inside of our buildings either. So we’re having a “BASH” and stepping...

PUMC Scrambles to Organize Easter Egg Hunt! (3/26/16)

Easter eggs… Really? Eggs represent life, and new life comes from the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.  So we’re going to use the symbol of Easter Eggs to help teach our children about the true meaning of Easter… and to have a little fun while we’re at it! On Holy Saturday, March 26, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, we will host our 8th annual Easter Egg Hunt.  There will be lunch, a “special presentation,” and (of course) plenty of Easter eggs.  Last year’s Egg...

Our Father’s House Rocks! (2/25/16)

We need to put Jesus Above All else!  Is He greater than your favorite TV star?  Is He greater than your favorite athlete?  What about music?  Is Jesus your favorite Rock Star??? On Thursday Feb. 22 a group from Our Father’s House (our preschool), joined their own “rock band”, picked up their plastic guitars, started out with “ABC Rock” and then moved on by “rocking”  to many Spiritual Hits such as: He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands I’m Happy...

Our Preschool, Our Father’s House, presented their annual Christmas Pageant before an adoring crowd of parents, grandparents, and PUMC members.  After a welcome and announcements by Pastor Jim and OFH director Eileen Salmon, the kids took over.  They took us through the story of Christmas with short songs and lots of energy.  The kids presented everything from the Christ Child, Mary and Joseph, the shepherds, magi, angels… and even cows.            ...

Hooks ‘n Needles for God Opens a Mitten Tree (11/28/15)

The Hooks ‘n Needles for God group, which uses their talents to create blankets and prayer shawls is collecting gloves and mittens to help needy children keep warm this winter.  Amidst all of the Christmas Decorations in our church, there is a very special Christmas Tree in the rear of the sanctuary:  The Mitten Tree.  Hooks ‘n Needles got things off to a good start by hanging their own items, but there is still plenty of space left on the tree!  If you have any children’s...

Star Tree to Brighten up Christmas for Needy Families (12/13/15)

Last week, during our annual “hanging of the greens,” many lights, garlands, nativities and trees were brought out to remind us of this special season.   One of those trees is very special;  we call it our “Star Tree,” and it was placed in our Narthex.  This Christmas tree is adorned with Yellow stars, and each star bears the name of a child from our town who is in need of our help.  To participate in this ministry… Remove a star with the child’s name on it...

Preschool Kids Learn How to Brush Up! (12/1/15)

A Dental Hygienist from Washington Township Dental Associates visited our Preschool (Our Father’s House) to show the kids how to take care of their teeth.   She presented a fantastic program for the children and gave them a “goodie bag” that they could take home.  No, the “goodie bag” didn’t contain leftovers from Halloween!  But the toothbrushes and the other contents in the bag will reinforce the need of proper dental hygiene.   Here are a couple of...
