Resurrection Peace (4/12/15)

What are you afraid of?  There’s good fear and bad fear, and Jesus came to remove the “bad fear.”  On this first Sunday after Easter, Pastor Jim preached on this topic.  His text was from John 20:19-23, where Jesus suddenly appears in the midst of the disciples who were hiding behind locked doors.  To find out more, click the following “Play” button to start the sermon (from the 9:30 service) and then scroll down to follow along….     Click the  following drop down box to see the scripture…...

fwd: Email From God (4/5/15)

Ever get one of those emails that had been forwarded to a gazillion people?  It might be yet another message with jokes or another advertisement.  When these messages come, we usually hit the delete key without even considering to open them.  If the message starts with the letters “fwd:”, the word “ignore” tends to pop into most of our minds. But have we experienced so many Easters that the amazing message of the Resurrection has simply dissolved into a familiar, worn out image of eggs and candy?  Just like an annoying...

Hey- We ARE Playing Games! (4/17/15)

You sunk my Battleship! Games?  Really? What’s that got to do with church?  Isn’t that just for kids? As we’ve heard so many times, a church isn’t a building; it’s the people who are the church.  If we are to “spur one another on towards good deeds” (as it says in Hebrews 10:24) it’s important that we get to know each other.  Traveling to Mexico on a missions team, or joining with a couple of guys to wash dishes in the kitchen, or praying together are ways to build relationships.  But so is...

United Methodist Women Making a Difference in April! (4/2015)

The United Methodist Women’s long time “claim to fame” has been our bedrock of meeting together in groups called “Circles.”   UMW Circles were in place long before the term “Small Group” came into vogue, and they are a place to study the Bible and exchange thoughts within the community of other women.  Here’s the April schedule of UMW Circle gatherings: The Wesleyann Circle will be meeting on Monday, April 6th in the church parlor at 1:00 PM. The Hannah Circle will meet on Wednesday, April 15th....

Pastor’s Ponderings: The Cross

Pastor Jim submitted the following devotional on March 27, 2015…   Greetings Friends: PLEASE READ: 2 Corinthians 5:14-15, “For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for Him who died for them and was raised again.”   Our journey through Lent is bringing us ever closer to the cross of Jesus. A question I have been pondering during Lent is how many people today do not take the...
