A Missionary’s Heart

The following appeared in an article by Tricia Goyer in “Mornings With Jesus 2015”

“And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it.” Matthew 24:14 (NLT)

In a small city in the Czech Republic there is an apartment not far from the town square where three young women room together. One is a Czech native who teaches high school and leads a local youth group. The second is from the Netherlands, working for a missionary organization for her second year. The third is a college graduate from the United States who shares Christ while teaching English classes for mothers and children, and who hosts a Bible study for international students.

They told me that at the turn of the century, instead of using trunks, missionaries would have a wooden casket made for them, and then they would pack it with all of their things, knowing they would never return home.

Today we can Skype with them, text, Email, and post photos on Facebook. Yet while the ways of communication with family and friends at home have changed, the hearts of missionaries haven’t.

All over the world there are men, women, and families from all walks of life who have left the familiarity and comfort of home to share the Good News of the Kingdom, a message of reconciliation, with the least, the last, and the lost.

For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And He gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation
2 Corinthians 5:19 (NLT)

Whether strolling along on cobblestone or striding side by side through jungle trails, whispers about Jesus’ love do their work penetrating native hearts.

Ordinary men and women speak to other ordinary men and women and share that, through Jesus, we all have a way to be forgiven and united with Him. And day by day, because of His faithful followers, Jesus’ prophecy is fulfilled over and over again.
