There are a couple of realities that many families in Pitman are struggling with:
- School lunch programs are about to take a summer vacation; but kids need to eat year ’round
- SNAP (Food Stamps) help pay for food, but they don’t cover other household necessities.
We are joining forces with the other churches in our community to help Pitman’s First Presbyterian Church’s efforts in providing free lunch boxes to local children; to kids who won’t be receiving these lunches now that school is out. And, we’re going one step further in helping to provide for those non-food items which can’t be purchased with food stamps.
Our United Methodist Women are leading PUMC’s participation in this effort.

Here’s how you can help:
1: Assemble Lunch Boxes
Lunch boxes which will be provided to kids during the summer will be assembled on Friday June 15, from 1-3 PM. This will take place at the First Presbyterian Church in Pitman.
2: Distribute Lunch Boxes
Starting on June 20 and continuing on every Wednesday throughout the summer (through August 29), these lunch boxes will be distributed from 4:30-6:30 PM (at the Presbyterian church). Volunteers are needed.
3: Donate “non-food” Items
PUMC is supporting this mission by providing personal care items for the families. We have placed a collection box in the Narthex to assist this project (collections will continue until June 17). We are collecting, primarily, items which cannot be purchased with Food Stamps (now called SNAP). Specifically:
- soap, shampoo, deodorant
- toilet paper, tissues
- feminine hygiene products,
- sunblock,
- toothpaste,
- disinfecting wipes and the like. Any size and any variety is acceptable.
