PUMC Stepping into Generosity (11/12/17)

We’re “Blessed to be a Blessing.”  That’s the title of a song the choir often sings.  How are we blessed?  Or, maybe more importantly, what or whom do we bless???  In order for us to grow as Christians, to whom do we need to give?  Finance Committee? The Budget? The Church? God? Finance Committee Nah! The Budget Nah! The Methodist Church, inc Nah! God! Yes! But what does that mean? We give to “be partakers in the building of the Kingdom.” But what does THAT...

PUMC to Celebrate Anniversary! (10/29/17, 10:15 AM)

Back in November of 1885, the PITMAN GROVE METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH was organized. From that small beginning of 43 members, we have grown into what is now the “Pitman United Methodist Church.” It’s our birthday and we are now 132 years old! This Sunday happens to be the 5th Sunday of the month; we’ve been holding single services on these Sundays (one service at 10:15 instead of services at 9:30 and 11:00).  So on October 29 we’ll celebrate our anniversary by holding a...

David Meece Testifies of New Rainbows! (10/14/17)

Renowned singer /songwriter David Meece performed “In Concert” at our church on Saturday Oct. 14, 2017. In many ways, it was like any other concert by a “celebrity.” Before the “show”, there was a table full of CDs in the lobby and bashful young ladies had the chance to meet the “star” backstage. When David took the “stage” he opened with a rousing performance of “Raise These Arms,” getting everyone to clap their hands and...

Practicing Extravagant Generosity (10/15 thru 11/11 2017)

Unity.  Pulling together to be of one heart and one purpose.  In our church, that purpose is to glorify our Creator-God and to help Him build His Kingdom.  Our goal is to become more like Christ in every facet of our lives. One of the attributes of God is that He is generous… REALLY generous.  Imagine the Son of God somehow squeezing Himself into a human body, living on this earth, and then dying on a Roman cross?  Think about the God who has provided all of your needs throughout your...

UMCOR and Other Churches Provide Disaster Relief (9/10/17)

Excerpts from a recent article in USA Today (Sept. 9-10, 2017) document how faith based organizations (like our own UMCOR) are providing 80% of the disaster recovery that is currently happening.  It’s an example of how we can partner with the government (FEMA) to care for those whose lives have been upended by the recent storms. Faith based groups have been super busy of late, providing more aid to hurricane victims than even FEMA. They are first to arrive at scenes of natural disasters,...

Youth Building Buckets for Flood Relief (10/29/17)

Imagine that your home has been flooded.  The smell of mildew is everywhere.  Dirt coats the floors and counters.  One of your biggest needs is something we take for granted: cleaning supplies.  Buckets, soaps, laundry detergent, sponges, trash bags… the list goes on and on.  As part of the United Methodist Committed on Relief’s (UMCOR) efforts, our youth have started a project to collect items to assemble “Flood Buckets.”  These buckets will be filled with specific...

United Methodists Denounce Racism

The recent events in Charlottsville VA (where violence erupted when a neo-nazi group protested the removal of a Confederate statue) have spawned a series of responses from the United Methodist Church leaders. Being actively engaged in issues of justice and human rights is part of our “DNA” as United Methodists, and the recent comments by our church leaders is consistent with that call.   Book of Resolutions The Book of Resolutions of the United Methodist Church calls us to...

Mission Team Helps Dedicate a New Sanctuary (7/29/17)

For 18 years, a poor but vibrant Methodist Church in Mexico has been diligently working to build a new sanctuary for their church. Over the years, our church has supported them with our prayers, gifts, and with several hands-on mission trips to help in the construction. To get a taste of our efforts to partner with La Palmilla over the years, click this button: La Palmilla This year’s Team had the honor of being in La Palmilla to take part in the fruition of this effort: The sanctuary...

PUMC Welcomes Back the Boltons! (7/9/17)

Pastors in the United Methodist Church are appointed one year at a time.  Clergy are members of the Annual Conference; not of the local church.  And, they are “Itinerant Pastors”, serving for an average of 5-10 years at a local church. July first is the official start of a clergy appointment.  For many churches, the last Sunday is June is a difficult time where a congregation says “goodbye” to an outgoing pastor.  For others,  the first Sunday of July is a day of hope...

Eye Opening Experience! (Camp Meeting, 6/25/17)

Summer!  When the end of May hits the calendar our senses are surrounded with a fresh set of experiences: The smell of burgers on the grill… The chlorine-laden breeze of a pool… The sights of sand and beach…  The smell of sunblock lotion… The quiet splash of whirling lake water as you paddle a canoe.  But to experience all of that, our senses must be open. The speaker at the first service of the 2017 Pitman Camp Meeting was Rev. Bill Wilson, and he focused on our sense...

This year’s season of the Pitman Camp Meeting is already underway and will continue throughout the summer on Sunday evenings. The services are held at 7:30 p.m. in the William (Bud) Moore Auditorium located in the center of the Grove area, and are lead by various pastors and music teams from the Methodist Churches in the area. PUMC Musicians Use Guitars to Fight Cancer! (6/3/17)

Cancer.  It has affected, it is affecting, and it will affect many different people in many different ways.  For surviving family, it creates mourning,  To victims, it creates pain.  And to survivors, it creates celebration.  But for all of us, it’s something that needs to be eliminated.  We need a cure. Every year, the American Cancer Society sponsors what it calls a “Relay for Life” event.  A “Relay” event was recently held at the Washington Lake Park, in nearby...
