Forty Days of Fruitful Living Sermons & Studies (3/9/14)

Posted by on Apr 5, 2014 in EventAnnouncement, Friends & Fellowship, Worship & Prayer | 0 comments

On Sunday March 9, we began a new sermon series based on the devotional “Forty days of Fruitful Living- Practicing a Life of Grace,” written by Robert Schnanse.

During the five Sundays in Lent we are looking at five disciplines, or practices that we can develop in order to grow into a life of grace. The five practices are:

  1. Radical Hospitality
  2. Passionate Worship
  3. Intentional Faith Development
  4. Risk-Taking Mission and Service
  5. Extravagant Generosity

Like an athlete honing his or her skills and developing muscle memory, none of these practices happens automatically.  We must intentionally partner with the Holy Spirit in order to grow spiritually.

Christianity is a way of life; not a system of beliefs.”

Sermon Schedule for Lent

The sermons during both services will introduce the topic for the upcoming week’s devotional readings and small group discussions.  The schedule is as follows:

March 9 “Radical Hospitality Imitates Christ” Matt. 24:34-40
March 16 Passionate Worship Stops, Looks, Listens” Rom 12:1-2, 2 Sam. 6
March 23 Intentional Faith Development Learns to Soar Eph. 3:14-21
March 30 Intentional Risk Taking Mission & Service Matt. 9:35-37
April 6 Extravagant Generosity Demands Practice 2 Corinthians 8:1-15

Want to Dive Deeper?

We’re providing opportunities to go beyond the sermons and to be more intentional about applying these practices to our lives so that we can grow closer to God.

Devotionals

In addition to the sermons, devotional books have been made available to the congregation for use during this Lenten season.  The books provide five weeks of daily devotions, and each article follows up on the theme introduced by that week’s sermon.

Small Groups

Small groups will meet during the Tuesday Study Series, and we will share our insights into the devotional articles and into the sermon.  Both the “Endurance” and Potter’s Hand adult small groups are studying this  series.
