GROWTH Display_IMG_2608GROWTH…

When our kids are young we frequently buy or make a “growth chart” that we hang on the bedroom wall.  At significant events we mark the height of our child and marvel at the wonder of growth.  How quickly they grow and get taller and taller!

A poster was recently spotted on an easel in our 5th grade Sunday School Room:  It says “GROWTH.”

How can we grow in Christ?  What would you tell a 5th grader?  What would you tell an adult?  Here’s some useful direction for people of any age…

Go to God daily in prayer.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.  (Ephesians 6:18)

Read God’s Word daily.

Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.  (Joshuah 1:8)

Obey God moment by moment.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.  Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.  (Galatians 6:9-10)

Witness for Christ.

“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.  Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.  (Matthew 5:14-16)

Trust God in all things.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.   (Romans 15:13)

Holy Spirit: Allow Him to control and empower you.

Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.  The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace;   (Romans 8:5-6)

Now that’s a pretty useful Growth Chart for kids of any age!
