PUMC Celebrates the Resurrection with the Hallelujah Chorus (4/5/15)

Banner Long Easter _IMG_1863Starting with Ash Wednesday, we’ve been preparing to  celebrate this special day that we call Easter.  No, it’s not about bunnies, ham and eggs.  It’s about our God who planned from eternity past to eternity future to restore and build a relationship with His people through His Son, Jesus Christ.

During Lent, through Pastor Jim’s sermons we looked at the Seven Last Words of Christ from the cross.  We learned that you can’t experience the resurrection without coming to grips with the cross.

Today, we experienced the power of the Resurrection!

The day started just as it did for those first witnesses of the resurrection; at the rising of the sun.  At 6:30 AM several churches from Pitman held a Sunrise Service at Alcyon Lake Park.  As the full moon gave way to sunshine, we experienced a special time of prayer, music, and poetry as we celebrated the resurrection  of our Lord…

After that, we returned with our individual church families to worship in our own churches. The cross, which had been draped in black during the Good Friday service,  was now dressed in the white.  At PUMC, we held our usual two services (9:30 and 11:00).  Pastor Jim preached his sermon (“God’s Forwarded Email“) during both services.

Everything in the sanctuary (even the big eggs given to Pastor Jim!)  proclaimed that “Christ Our Lord Is Risen Today!”…

And- at both services, we ended our time together by singing the Hallelujah Chorus.  It is a long held tradition at PUMC that we invite anyone to join the choir in the loft to sing Handel’s masterpiece of inspiration at the end of each Easter service.  Below is our choir’s rendition during the 11:00 service…
