One Great Hour of Sharing (3/15/15)

We always hear about UMCOR- The United Methodist Committee on Relief.  When there is a tragedy in the world, they quickly jump into achtion and organize funding and relief.  All of this important work is done without siphoning any funding from the donations in order to pay for overhead costs.  ALL of the donations given to UMCOR for a specific project go dreitly to the relief effort.

How does that work?  The committee’s overhead costs are funded by one annual offering, called “One Great Hour of Sharing.”  That ofering is on Sunday March 15.  Special envelopes are available in the Narthex.

Please help support our church’s ability to spring into action whenever a disaster occurs.

What is UMCOR?

Here’s a message from Bishop Schol regarding the 75th anniversary of UMCOR…

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,   I know you have been reading and hearing about the 75th anniversary of UMCOR this Sunday, March 15 at Asbury UMC in Atlantic City. UMCOR was birthed in Atlantic City 75 years ago and we are honored to host the international celebration of UMCOR. Leaders and representatives from across the denomination will be coming to Atlantic City for this special celebration. I invite you to do two things this Sunday:
  • Send at least one representative from your church to the special worship service at:

10 a.m. Sunday, March 15

Asbury United Methodist Church

1213 Pacific Avenue

Atlantic City, N.J.

  • Share the UMCOR 75th anniversary video [above] and receive the ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING offering which supports UMCOR. Each church was sent offering envelopes and we invite you to hand them out this weekend and invite people to give.
UMCOR has been a part of every major disaster in the United States and most disasters around the world. United Methodists are recognized as a leader in helping people because of UMCOR. It is special that we are hosting this celebration and I invite you to share in the celebration through an offering, sharing the video and sending a representative.
Keep the faith!
