In most of the world, Sunday Feb. 1 2015 is known as “Super Sunday” or Superbowl Sunday.” But at PUMC, it also became known as “Dress Down Sunday” during our worship services.
Dressing up was out. Instead, we wore our favorite team’s colors; football or otherwise.
It was a time to change the environment and to re-focus our attention on worship. Pastor Jim’s sermon took on a Football theme; even the bulletin talked about the kick off and huddle instead of the Call to Worship or Congregational Prayer. We learned that formalities aren’t the most important thing. What is important is that we recognize the gifts God has given each of us and that we focus on the “Playbook” to learn how we can contribute.
