Speaker and Theme…

Rev. Mike Bill (3/4/14)

Rev. Mike Bill (3/4/14)

Our Speaker for the weekend will be Pastor Mike Bill of Sharptown UMC.  Mike recently met with the UMM Steering committee to plan the retreat, and he described his planned theme for the weekend as follows…

End Game–Writing the Last Chapter First.

We’ve heard the leadership experts say to “begin with the end in mind.”  We’ve seen Pro Bowl quarterbacks demonstrate greatness in a “2 minute drill to win the game”.  Hospice chaplains have written books about the remarkable perspective that folks have on their deathbeds.  But what would it really look like if we approached life from the end?  What if we knew where we wanted to be and rewrote “now” to be in alignment with what we want things to look like “then?”

During this year’s  retreat, we want to dive into the last chapter of four books in the middle of the Old Testament.  They will help us unlock the four “last chapters” that we also must write:

  1. Book of Joshua                      “Legacy”                                  Question of Choices
“Choose this day whom you will serve…”
  2. Book of Judges                       “Character”                            Question of Authority
“No king in Israel…  everyone did what was right in his own eyes”
  3. Book of I Samuel                   “Identity”                                Question of Identity
“The Lord was grieved that He had made Saul King over Israel”
  4. Book of II Samuel                  “Inheritance”                         Question of Impact
“Solomon sat on the throne of his father David.”

Our pre-reserved spots are filling up, but we can usually add more as needed.  Note also that you don’t have to attend  the entire weekend; discounted “partial weekend” prices are available.  Please consider plugging into this excellent opportunity to build community and to be inspired.
