PUMC to Host Red Cross Blood Drive (1/7/22)

Blood is always needed for life saving procedures, but the current supply is dangerously low.  In fact, the Red Cross website opens with an announcement that reads:

This is serious. The Red Cross is experiencing the worst blood shortage in over a decade. The dangerously low blood supply levels have forced some hospitals to defer patients from major surgery, including organ transplants. Your donation is desperately needed this holiday season. Please schedule an appointment to give now.

On Friday January 7, 2022 we’ll have a chance to help meet that need. The American Red Cross will conduct one of their blood drive clinics in our Fellowship Hall between 1:00 and 6:00 PM. Appointments are necessary. You can either make them online (see below) or by calling the Red Cross at 1-800-RED-CROSS (800-733-2767).

If you’re available and able, please consider making a donation.

Due to the current surge in COVID cases, the American Red Cross is requiring everyone attending the Blood Drive to wear masks, even if fully vaccinated.  Additionally, if you have tested positive for COVID within the past 14 days or are experiencing symptoms of COVID, you are not eligible to donate blood.  See the Red Cross Website for details.  This page includes the below video to explain the current need:

If you’ve never donated blood before and have some concerns about how the process works and whether or not you’ll be able to make a donation, the American Red Cross website has a page just for you! Click below to view the “FAQ” page about blood donations. The Red Cross website also addresses concerns about COVID and how vaccinations may affect your donation.
