The Pitman Grove Camp Meeting gathered for the 148th year this summer.

You may have spent the summer traveling.  You may have spent it at the beach.  You may have spent it in the back yard.  In any case, you probably gathered memories (and maybe even some pictures) that can help power you through the winter.  Time with family develops relationships which can empower our lives well into the future.

Pitman and Power

This summer was also an opportunity to spend our Sunday evenings in a special time of Word, Music, and fellowship in the historic surroundings of the Pitman Grove.  For ten weeks, different churches took turns hosting the service.  Different pastors and musical groups brought their own brand of preaching and inspiration.

If you missed out on this particular summer memory, here’s a week by week wrapup of this summer season.

Rev. Gary Turk opened the 2018 season with a message on John 15:1-8.  He emphasized how we need to remain connected to the source of all strength (“The Vine”- Jesus).

PUMC’s Chris Valianti (with help from his boom box), and Jennifer Andrade (who signed the music), provided the special music.

PUMC was the host church.  Pastor Jim gave a message about diversity and inclusion.  It was drawn from the Dr. Seuss book and posed the question: “What can we Learn from the Sneetches”?

PUMC’s Voices in Praise choir provided the special music.

PUMC took a 2nd turn as a host, and Lay Leader Larry Bakely spoke about the coins that we carry: some are from “Caesar”, and some are from God.

PUMC’s “Men’s Praise Team” provided the special music.

Rev. Jim Hughes brought his special talent and ministry of Drama and Music during week #4.  Jim portrayed Thomas, reminding us that we too can see Jesus even despite our times of  doubt.

[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Week 5: July 22 (Rev. Sherry Zapolla)”]

Rev. Sherry Zapolla presented the Music and the Message during our service on Week #5.  She challenged the Church to be a powerful, vibrant force in the world which can usher in revival from God.

Her music (sung to accompaniment recordings), was upbeat and inspired us to pray and work for revival in our world.

[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Week 6: July 29 (Rev. Bill Wilson)”]

Rev. Bill Wilson preached a message warning us to avoid the “Spiritual Viruses” of Pride, Hate, and Worry.  Much like the “viruses” and malware which slips into our computers, these “Spiritual Viruses” can slowly weaken our walk with God.

New Brooklyn’s “One Way Express” provided the special music, picking us up with their lively brand of Bluegrass Gospel.

Rev. Jeff Crispin, from Joy Community Fellowship, gave an energetic message inspiring us to look again to the “Beauty of this Man- Jesus.”

His daughter and two nieces formed a trio of voices and ukuleles whose music set the theme of beholding our beautiful Savior.

[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Week 8: August 12 (Rev. Steve Herman)”]

Richwood UMC hosted our Week #8 service, and their pastor Rev. Steve Herman pointed out that we often tend to stop short of committing to God.  We get close, but we “wiggle our toes” over the line without fully committing.

Richwood’s band “Sanctified” lead us in worship with their music.

[/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Week 9: August 19 (Rev. John Inverso)”]

The First UMC of Glassboro hosted our service on August 5.  Their pastor, Rev. John Inverso, drew lessons from his church’s recent missions trip to Puerto Rico.  No how overwhelming a task may seem, God provides.  “If God gives a vision, He gives the Provision.”

Glassboro’s praise band, “Magnify” tuned our hearts to Pastor John’s message and kept our feet tapping.

Pastor Bret Walker, local pastor of the Hudson UMC and Ebeneezer UMC, wrapped up the 2018 season with a powerful message about Revival; stirring the purpose in our own hearts so we can go forward and wake our friends to the touch of Jesus’ offer of eternal life.

Bret and his ukulele ministered to us in music.
