Manor residents visit OFH to read to kids
Our preschool, Our Father’s House, not only gives 2-4 year olds a head start in their education, it also opens their eyes to the excitement of mission.
In addition to the “ABCs” of learning, each month features a different missions project. We collect things, donate things, and visit people. We learn to love as we learn about those in need.
In April, our project was to collect for Heifer International.
What is Heifer International?
The animals purchased don’t just provide a reliable source of food, but also a reliable source of income. Extra agricultural products, such as milk from cows or goats, honey from bees or eggs from chickens, can be both shared within the community and sold at market. This new income, coupled with the training in sustainable practices that Heifer International provides, allows others to clothe their families, provide them with medical care and send their children to school. When not just one but many families gain this new sustainable produce and income, it brings new opportunities for building schools, creating agricultural co-ops, and forming community savings and loan groups to help fund entrepreneurial start-ups.
It’s a lofty goal, but it is happening! In communities around the world, Heifer International is helping people lift themselves from hunger and poverty.
A Moooving Success!
This year’s effort was one of the most fruitful ever. We collected a total of $928 which was used to donate a variety of “shares” for animals. Each class voted where they wanted their donations to go. Collectively, we gave the following to Heifer International:
Thanks to all who participated! Your gift offers something no store-bought gift can – a lifetime of opportunities for a struggling and hungry family/village in an underserved and often overlooked part of the world.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP WITH THIS WORTHWHILE MISSION PROJECT! The children have enjoyed it!
