The Messiah is coming! As we enter the Christmas season we are called to prepare. Prepare our hearts. Prepare for change.
And, as with many Advent seasons during the history of our church, the choirs are called to prepare their voices! The annual Christmas Cantata is held on the third Sunday of December (always at 4:15 PM).
But this year’s Christmas Cantata will be a special event. We’re joining with other local choirs (and with a string ensemble) to sing the Christmas portion of Handel’s “The Messiah”!
This has become a bit of a tradition since we moved into our new building; we performed The Messiah in 2007, 2012, and now 2017. We’ve been sticking to an “every five years” tradition of celebrating the arrival of our Savior-Messiah by performing this famous oratorio.

2017: The tradition Continues!
Five years later, we will come together again, on Sunday December 17 at 4:15 PM to present the Christmas portion of Handel’s Messiah. The Tapestry String Quartet will accompany us, and Jack Rowland has graciously agreed to be our conductor (as he did in 2007 and 2012).
The cantata will be presented in our sanctuary. Come early and get a good seat…

In April of 1742, the glorious music of George Friedrick Handel’s Messiah, along with the scriptural text by Charles Jennens, was first presented in Dublin, Ireland.
On December 23, 2007 we celebrated the first Christmas in our new church home. Our Voices in Praise Choir continued the Annual Candlelight Cantata, as had been done for over 80 years.
Again, in 2012, we presented The Messiah, and once again had a choir of 85 voices.
