Redbird Flying into PUMC! (10/14/16 – 10/16/16)

Redbird mission is special Conference of the United Methodist Church which is dedicated to serving the poor in Appalachia.  For many years, our church has sent mission teams into that area to help repair homes.  In recent years, our efforts have transitioned into a partnership with Red Bird Mission.

In 2013, a team from our church traveled to Kentucky to serve with Redbird. One year later, our congregation raised over $3600 to support Redbird’s ministry.   Check out the below post for more information…

2016 Craft Show & Breakfast

Redbird Mission

Red Bird Mission is coming to PUMC on the weekend of October 14-16 to share updates with us and to give us an opportunity to share with them.  One of the activities done by the folks in Kentucky is to make a wide variety of well-built and imaginative crafts, and then sell them to raise money for their ministries.  Several years ago, Redbird brought their craft show to PUMC.  We added on a breakfast and the result was a huge boost for the people in Appalachia.

This month, we’re going to reprise those efforts.  Here’s the schedule:

Friday, October 14

  • Members from Redbird will arrive in Pitman and be hosted in the homes of several PUMC families.
  • The Craft Show will be set up in the Fellowship Hall

Saturday, October 15

  • 8:00 – 11:00 AM  Breakfast Buffet (on the kitchen end of the Fellowship Hall)
  • 9:00 – 2:00 PM   Craft Show (on the other side of the Fellowship Hall)

Sunday, October 16

  • 930 & 11:00  Members from Red Bird will share a testimony about their ministry during both of our worship services.
  • 9:30 & 11:00  The Craft Show will be open on Sunday morning.

Double Treats on Saturday October 16…

Saturday is going to be a busy day in our Fellowship Hall.  Stop by in the morning for some great food, and then do some craft shopping afterwards.  Hey- it’s never too early to start that Christmas shopping!!!

All  proceeds from the breakfast and craft show will benefit the work of Redbird in Appalachia.  Below are the details on these two events:

Craft Show…

The Appalachian crafts will take your breath away.  Here’s a glimpse of some of the items that will be available:

Beeswax candles…
Jewelry…
Jams and Jellies…
Woven placemats…
Wooden toys and games…
Wooden utensils and furniture…
Christmas Ornaments…
Nativity Scenes…

The items are all handmade.  This Craft Show provides a market for local (Red Bird) artisans, and is a vital part of the economic development of this depressed area of Appalachia.  It also gives us the opportunity to purchase and enjoy quality Appalachian crafts; and to support the Red Bird Mission.
