This training will provide important lessons delivered through a short presentation and practical demonstrations on fire prevention geared towards kitchen use. Picture Tour thru Annual Conference 2014

The Greater New Jersey Annual Conference met at the Wildwood Convention Center on Thursday May 29 through Saturday May 31.  The conference had elements of “business” where budgets and resolutions were voted on.  But its purpose also included Learning, Fellowship, and Worship. To view some videos of the conference, visit the Conference Website. Below are some pictures that aren’t nearly as good as the ones you’ll see on the conference website.  They were taken with a...

Remembering Hazel Stiles and the “Stand at the Door” Window

Remembering Hazel Stiles and the “Stand at the Door” Window

As we enter a time of transition from one pastor to the next, we pause to reflect on the history of our church and on the heritage that God has supplied us with. In the chapel there is a stained glass window showing Jesus standing at the door and knocking.  The window depicts Revelation 3:20 where Jesus tells the church in Laodicea, “Here I am!  I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.”This window...

2014 Annual Conference to Meet In Wildwood (5/29 – 5/31)

Annual Conference… Our church is part of the Greater New Jersey Annual Conference.  Our Annual Conference is divided into 9 Districts (we are in the Delaware Bay District).  Once a year (that’s why they call it an “Annual” Conference), representatives from the United Methodist churches across New Jersey (and parts of Pennsylvania and New York) gather for a 3 day conference. This year’s conference will be held in Wildwood from Wednesday May 28 through Saturday May...

Transition? New Pastors? God’s already got us covered! (5/3/14)

In the United Methodist church, pastors are appointed to a church for one year.  Usually, pastors are re-appointed to their current church, but true to our heritage of serving with “circuit pastors”, change is inevitable.   All appointments in our conference begin on July 1.  In the weeks leading up to that date, things can get pretty hectic for the churches which are changing pastors.  A “dance of dominoes” begins where pastors move from parsonage to parsonage and...

PUMC History Re-visited

What we are doing TODAY is far more important than dwelling on the past, but it is helpful to remember the “cloud of witnesses” who preceded us.  Knowing where we’ve been can help light to path forward to where God is calling us.

Rev. Jim Bolton Appointed as New PUMC Pastor

In the United Methodist Church, pastors are appointed for a year at a time.  Appointments are decided by the Bishop of the conference (in our case, Bishop John Schol, of the Greater New Jersey Annual Conference).  The bishop works closely with his “cabinet.” to match the gifts and abilities of a pastor to the needs of each local church. The bishop’s cabinet is made up of the District Superintendents.  These superintendents oversee the churches in each of the...

Steeple Cross Legacy (2/23/14)

This post was originally published in 2014…
The cross hanging in the Narthex was once high upon our steeple overlooking the center of town. It stood as a visible symbol of our church until the building under it was destroyed by fire in 2003. As we consider our history, we look to the past to draw inspiration for the future.

Sanctuary Decorated for Christmas (11/24/13)

After our worship services on Sunday 11/24/13, many of us stuck around to help “hang the greens.”  The sanctuary and narthex were decorated with the life that is given to us in the miracle of Christmas. It was yet another example of the old adage, “many hands make light work”… pizza doesn’t hurt either!   Stringing the Garland Nativity scene in sanctuary Pastor Larry (he does windows too!)              ...

New Stained Glass Windows Installed (10/1/13)

Gifts of Worship The stained glass windows along the top of our sanctuary tell the story of our Lord and Savior.  On the left side, windows depict the Nativity, Baptism, Last Supper, and Crucifixion. The large window in the center of our sanctuary (above the alter) depicts the central tenant of our faith: The Resurrection. Until 10/1/13, the three windows to the right of the Resurrection window were blank (clear glass).  Thanks to the gifts of several long time members of our church, these...

The best part of all of this...
