Fall Activities Getting Ready to Resume
See You in September… Ah yes… remember June? The Spring flowers were in bloom, the days were getting longer, and school and most church activities took a “summer break.” But now that Vacation Bible School, Softball, and Camp Meeting are all but over, it’s time to start looking towards September and the resumption of our “regular” activities. Here’s a quick rundown of some of these activities and of when they will resume their regular meetings. As more details on this year’s programs...

Pastor Jim’s sermon on August 15 was about God’s faithfulness as shown in Lamentations 3. Morning by Morning New Mercies I See… One of the hymns that most of us know is based on today’s scripture: “Great is thy Faithfulness.” The refrain includes the line “Morning by morning new mercies I see…. All I have needed Thy hand has provided. Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me.” There is a lily-type plant which produces flowers that last only one day. It buds in the morning, is in...

Hands-On Mission! Pitman UMW will be hosting a Hands-On Mission Event for all women on Wednesday evening, October 8th. We will be packing Sewing Kits for the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). Sewing kits foster independence rather than dependence. Women can make clothing in their own size and in the style of their culture. Cottage industries often grow out of the sewing classes where women use these kits to practice valuable income-generating skills. Beginning in September, we will have collection baskets in the Narthex. For each...

Today (August 14, 2014), the following message was posted on our church signboard: FOLLOW US @PITMANUMC FOLLOW GOD @PRAYER OK. Admittedly, this might be a shameless attempt to bring in more followers to our church Twitter account. People follow Twitter accounts to read Tweets- short comments about whatever’s on the tweeter’s mind. Even if you’re not into Twitter, aren’t we all “Following” something throughout the day? When somebody cuts you off, an unrepeatable “Tweet” of judgement...

The following devotional was written by our pastor, Rev. Jim Bolton… PLEASE READ: Mark 6:32-44 So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place. But many who saw them leaving recognized them and ran on foot from all the towns and got there ahead of them. When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things. By this time it was late in the day, so his disciples came to him. “This is a remote place,” they said, “and...
