Our choirs and praise team presented our annual candelight Christmas Cantata on the afternoon of Sunday December 13.
The title of the cantata was “A Light Still Shines.” Here are portions of the forward which is provided in the book:

The visions of a star, a stable, shepherds, wisemen, a young mother and father, and a tiny baby in a manger of hay, are still wreathed in wonder and awe. The tidings of great joy that reach to us from that time long ago, in that place far away, resound with this great promise and truth (Matthew 4:16)…
“The people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death, a light has dawned.”
Below are some of the songs which our choirs sang:
- A Light Still Shines
- Carol of the Kings
- O Holy Night
- Mary Did you Know?
- O Come All Ye Faithful
- Soli Deo Gloria!
- We Have Seen the Light!
The service was a vibrant mixture of traditional carols and upbeat pieces composed specifically for this cantata. The keynote selection, “A Light Still Shines,” ends with the following declaration:
A Light still shines.
It will always glow in the hearts and minds, of the Wise who know:
That a King has come, and His light defines, what His love has won,
A Light Still Shines!
Here’s a video of the children’s choir leading this praise during one of the opening songs:
Rekindle the Light!
The annual Christmas cantata is always one of the highlights of the Christmas season. The music, candelight, and narration somehow all get together to draw us into a special climate where we sense the presence of the Holy Spirit. You never leave one of these cantatas worrying about trivial concerns like fruit cake and burned out light bulbs.
The cantata was presented by our adult choir (Voices in Praise), Praise Team, and Children’s Choir. Guitarist Lee Whitaker and organist/pianist Susan Crispin added their talented direction and accompaniment.
