GOOD THING GOD DOESN’T

TAKE VACATIONS!

Signboard God Vacation 15-05-22 _IMG_2123We’re at the time of the season when school is about to close, the weather is getting warmer, the days are getting longer… and people are thinking about getting away.  When you’re on vacation, you’re away from the normal routine.  You can put some distance between yourself and the concerns of life.  You can even put some space between yourself and those who love and depend on you.  When you’re on vacation, there are just some things that will have to be put on hold until you get back.

But what about God?  What if you hit a rough spot, prayed fervently, but then got the cold feeling that heaven was closed.  That God wasn’t listening.  Wait until next week.

But God is ALWAYS just a prayer away.  Actually He’s even closer than that!  And, truth be told, Jesus is already praying for us (through the Holy Spirit) even when we don’t know it.

Customer Service?

PayPhone-Flowers-Jakes_5-24-14_500Have you ever tried to get help by calling “Customer Service?”  Even though “your call is very important to them…” you wait on hold forever, listening to elevator music, until the connection dies and you get hung up on.

Wouldn’t it be great if someone were always on the other end of the line?

Matt 28:20 “And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
1 Corinthians 5:3-5 Even though I am not physically present, I am with you in spirit. And I have already passed judgment on the one who did this, just as if I were present.  When you are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus and I am with you in spirit, and the power of our Lord Jesus is present…

Matthew 18:20 “For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.”

Expert Help!

ear-159306__180OK.  Maybe you do eventually get through and can talk to someone at Customer Service.  But are they of any help?  Do they give you any answers or do they just blow you off?

Unlike Customer Service,  God is always there and really does want to talk to you!  In fact, Jesus prays for us and the Holy Spirit helps us pray back…

John 17:20-22 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message,  that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.  I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one:
Luke 22:32 But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”
Rom 8:26-27 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.  And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.

Wrong  Department?

Sistine Chap-God-AdamHow many times have you eventually reached somebody but then they transfer you to someone else? And then that person can’t help you either?

God doesn’t take vacations, He’s always there, and He wants to help you with any problem you may be facing.  When you turn to God, you’re talking to the right person…

Psalm 40:1-3 I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.
Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Romans 8:31-32 What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?  He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all — how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?

Hebrews 4:14-16 (from The Message)…

Now that we know what we have — Jesus, this great High Priest with ready access to God — let’s not let it slip through our fingers.

We don’t have a priest who is out of touch with our reality. He’s been through weakness and testing, experienced it all — all but the sin.

So let’s walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help.

Jesus, our High Priest, is always there.  He loves us, wants to listen, and knows how to help.  And… He never goes away on vacation!
