A “Santa Parade Welcome” from Pitman United Methodist Church!

During the parade we handed out flyers informing you of the many events which will be held at Pitman UMC during the month of December.   Thanks for scanning in the QR code and visiting our website to learn more!

For most of us, Christmas is a highlight of the year.  For many of us, memories of past celebrations and of people who are no longer with us can make Christmas a low-light of the year.  But it doesn’t have to be limited to fun times or sad times.  The reason we celebrate Christmas is that we want to thank God for His patient involvement in our human race.  He could have just put a biological process in place, wound it up, let people be people, and then walked away.  But that’s not what our Creator-God did.  He didn’t walk away.  He actually became one of us!

Somehow, in a way that our puny minds will never understand, God squeezed Himself into a human being and came to earth.  As the promised Messiah (or “Christ”)… as our King, Jesus taught us and showed us how to live.  And then He did the unthinkable.  Even though we didn’t care about God, Jesus willingly died on a cross so that we could be forgiven and have a relationship with our heavenly Father.  It’s all hard to understand, but it’s something to celebrate!

And so, that’s why we march in parades, put up Christmas Trees, Light Candles and sing Christmas Carols.  We do all of this to remember, to give thanks, and to return to our Creator.

Wherever you celebrate this Gift, or whatever traditions you use, we invite you to join with the people of PUMC in this journey.  Open yourselves to prayer, to giving, and to thanksgiving.  You might come to PUMC, you might attend your own church, or you might quietly join with your friends and family.  But whatever the traditions and opportunities that may come your way this month, we invite you to you to learn more about Jesus and to love our God even more.

Merry Christmas!
