Tell everyone about the amazing things he does.<\/p>\n<p>4 Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! He is to be feared above all gods.<\/p>\n<p>5 The gods of other nations are mere idols, but the Lord made the heavens!<\/p>\n<p>6 Honor and majesty surround him; strength and beauty fill his sanctuary.<\/p>\n<p>7 O nations of the world, recognize the Lord; recognize that the Lord is glorious and strong.<\/p>\n<p>8 Give to the Lord the glory he deserves! All rights reserved.<\/span><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Creation&#8217;s Biggest Oxymoron&#8230;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Oxymorons are self contradicting phrases.\u00a0 The word itself comes from &#8220;<strong><em><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Oxus<\/span><\/em><\/strong>&#8221; (which means &#8220;sharp&#8221;) and &#8220;<strong><em><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Moras<\/span><\/em><\/strong>&#8221; (which means &#8220;dull&#8221;).\u00a0 Put them together and you have something that makes no sense: Sharp-Dull.\u00a0 Here are a few more&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle;\">\n<li>Jumbo &#8211; Shrimp<\/li>\n<li>Freezer &#8211; Burn<\/li>\n<li>Plastic &#8211; Silverware<\/li>\n<li>Airline &#8211; Food (<em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">or &#8220;hospital&#8221; or&#8230; fill in your least favorite food supplier<\/span><\/em>)<\/li>\n<li>Sanitary &#8211; Landfill<\/li>\n<li>Truthful &#8211; Tabloids<\/li>\n<li>Short &#8211; Sermon&#8230;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But here&#8217;s an even bigger Oxymoron:\u00a0 <strong><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Boring &#8211; Worship<\/span><\/strong>!!!<\/p>\n<p>Just as something called &#8220;shrimp&#8221; shouldn&#8217;t be sized as\u00a0 &#8220;jumbo&#8221;, &#8220;worship&#8221; just shouldn&#8217;t be described as &#8220;boring&#8221;!\u00a0 True worship can&#8217;t be boring\u00a0 any more than a true knife can be dull.\u00a0\u00a0 The very existence of what true worship is does not allow us to be bored.\u00a0 When we come before the awesome,\u00a0 holy, majestic God of the universe, who has\u00a0 created everything and has done amazing things in our lives, we can&#8217;t help but break out into adoration.<a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Nativity-Star-_12.59.22.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-5361\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Nativity-Star-_12.59.22-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Nativity Star _12.59.22\" width=\"204\" height=\"153\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Nativity-Star-_12.59.22-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Nativity-Star-_12.59.22.jpg 709w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 204px) 100vw, 204px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>How can you be bored when looking at the wonder of the stars on a clear night?<\/p>\n<p>If worship is boring, something is coming between you and the work of the Holy Spirit.\u00a0 There should be no room for boredom; worship should be fun as we experience the Joy of the Lord!<\/p>\n<p>A careful read of Psalm 96 suggests that worship should always incorporate two elements:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Rejoicing<br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Sing a new song to the Lord! Let the whole earth sing to the Lord!<br \/>\n<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Reverence<br \/>\n<strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Worship the Lord in all his holy splendor. Let all the earth tremble before him.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Boredom doesn&#8217;t\u00a0 fit!\u00a0 Rejoicing and Reverence- true worship- must lead to a response.\u00a0 As someone has stated, worship is not a spectator sport, it requires full participation.\u00a0 Worship is a chance to hear God and be blessed by Him.\u00a0 But worship isn&#8217;t complete until we take it outside of the church and serve.\u00a0 Worship and Service are connected.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Something to Rejoice and Share!\u00a0 <\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The background of this Psalm\u00a0 is found in 1 Chronicles 15 and 2 Samuel 6 where it is recorded that the Ark of the Covenant was returned to Jerusalem under the direction of King David.\u00a0 Those of us who lived through the church fire can remember the joy we felt the first time we saw the Resurrection Stained Glass window, which had survived the fire, restored and placed in its rightful position in front of our sanctuary.<\/p>\n<p>Psalms such as Psalm 96 (and Psalm 95) were used in ancient worship; they were\u00a0 a call to God&#8217;s people beckoning them to worship.\u00a0 They invite us to sing, to be joyous, to be reverent, and- to give back out of love.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #003300;\">The Highest form of worship is the worship of unselfish Christian service.\u00a0 The greatest form of praise is the sound of consecrated feet seeking out the lost and helpless.\u00a0 <\/span><\/em><\/strong>&#8211; <span style=\"color: #000000;\">Billy Graham<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">Worship Empowers us to Serve<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Why did Jesus come to earth?\u00a0 What was His mission statement?\u00a0 Wouldn&#8217;t it be cool if He had actually stated His &#8220;Mission Statement&#8221;?\u00a0 Well&#8230; He did clearly state His mission (in Luke 19:10)&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u00a0For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8211; Jesus<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Paul told the Ephesians (Ephesians 4) that God called them to be united into one &#8220;Body&#8221; so that they cold serve Him..<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>I<\/em><\/span> <em><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. &#8230;\u00a0 Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.\u00a0 For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future.\u00a0 There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism,\u00a0 and one God and Father, who is over all and in all and living through all.<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We worship so we can be empowered to serve God throughout the week.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re married, are you only married while you&#8217;re at home?\u00a0 No!\u00a0 You&#8217;re always connected to your wife.\u00a0 We are empowered to serve.\u00a0 As part of the Body of Christ, we are empowered to seek those who are lost and to bring them to Christ.\u00a0 This empowerment and this driving ambition to be God&#8217;s Hands and Feet in the world is a natural reaction to worship.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">How can that be boring?!?<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">When&#8217;s the last time you invited someone to church?\u00a0 You can&#8217;t stop the work of the Holy Spirit.\u00a0 As we invite people- serve- God&#8217;s Word won&#8217;t return empty.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">What is Worship?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The word worship means to &#8220;fall on your face or bow down&#8221; and is found more than 170 times in the Bible. We get our word &#8220;humility&#8221; from it.\u00a0 We recognize our place before God and acknowledge His position before us.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Sunday is not the time to worry about church business.\u00a0 The most important meeting we will ever have is Sunday Morning worship.\u00a0 It sets the stage for everything that happens in the week.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Here are some thoughts on worship&#8230;<\/p>\n<table cellpadding=\"12\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cslewis.com\/us\/ebook\/reflections-on-the-psalms\/9780547544236\" target=\"_blank\"> C.S.Lewis<\/a><\/td>\n<td>\u00a0&#8220;The most valuable thing the Psalms do for me is to express the same delight in God which made David dance.&#8221;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><a href=\"http:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/author\/quotes\/1082290.A_W_Tozer\" target=\"_blank\">A. Tozer<\/a><\/td>\n<td>&#8220;Without worship, we go about miserable.&#8221;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><a href=\"http:\/\/www.grahamkendrick.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Graham Kendrick<\/a><\/td>\n<td>&#8220;Worship has been misunderstood as something that\u00a0 arises from a feeling which comes upon you, but it is vital that we understand that it is\u00a0 rooted in a conscious act of the will; to serve and obey the Lord Jesus Christ.&#8221;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Psalm clearly gives us direction for worshiping God&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #000080;\">How&#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We can worship God by __:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\n\t\t\t<div class='tabs-left et_sliderfx_fade et_sliderauto_false et_sliderauto_speed_5000 et_slidertype_left_tabs clearfix'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et_left_tabs_bg'><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<ul class='et-tabs-control'>\n\t\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tSinging\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tProclaiming\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tGlorifying God\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tBringng an Offering\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tComing to Him\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tLiving Holy Lives\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tWitnessing\n\t\t<\/a><\/li>\n\t\t<\/ul> <!-- .et-tabs-control --> \n\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content'>\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-main-wrap'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-wrapper'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">verses 1-2a&#8230;<\/span> <\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 Sing a new song to the Lord! Let the whole earth sing to the Lord!\u00a0 <span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\">Sing to the Lord<\/span>; praise his name.\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">verses 2-3&#8230;<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0 Sing to the Lord; praise his name. Each day <span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\">proclaim<\/span> the good news that he saves.\u00a0 <span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\">Publish<\/span> his glorious deeds among the nations. <span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\">Tell everyone about<\/span> the amazing things he does.\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">verses 7-8a&#8230;<\/span><\/strong> O nations of the world, recognize the Lord; <span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\">recognize that the Lord is glorious<\/span> and strong.\u00a0 <span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\">Give to the Lord the glory he deserves!<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">verse 8&#8230;<\/span> <\/strong>Give to the Lord the glory he deserves! <span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\">Bring your offering<\/span>&#8230;\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">verse 8b&#8230;<\/span><\/strong> &#8230;and <span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\">come<\/span> into his courts.\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">verse 9&#8230;<\/span><\/strong> Worship the Lord <span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\">in all his holy splendor<\/span>. Bring your offering and come into his <span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\">courts<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em><span style=\"color: #993300;\">The word &#8220;Courts&#8221; pictures a place where the King reigns, perhaps like the scene pictured in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=esther+5&amp;version=TLB\" target=\"_blank\">Esther chapter 5<\/a>.<\/span><\/em>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div> <!-- .tabs-left --><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #000080;\">When&#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\t\t<div class='et-simple-slider et_sliderfx_fade et_sliderauto_false et_sliderauto_speed_5000 et_slidertype_simple'>\n\t\t\t<div class='et-simple-slides'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-wrapper'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tAnd, when should we worship?<\/p>\n<p>(<em><span style=\"color: #ff0000; font-size: 10pt;\">click the &#8220;next&#8221; arrow if you need to see the answer<\/span><\/em>)\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<strong><span style=\"color: #000080; font-size: 14pt;\">Day after Day! <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080; font-size: 14pt;\">All the time!!!<\/span><\/strong>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div> <!-- .et-simple-slider -->\n\t\t\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Sing a NEW Song!<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Worship is meant to be spontaneous and genuine.\u00a0 In church we do experience worshipful moments by reciting familiar liturgy and prayers, but we are also called to sing &#8220;NEW Songs!&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0 Our praise should come in Fresh Outbursts; new songs, new styles.\u00a0 Christ is active in our lives minute by minute.\u00a0 Our worship needs to respond in fresh ways.<\/p>\n<p>When journalists are reporting the news, do they tell us stories which took place 163 years ago?\u00a0 NO!\u00a0 They report fresh,\u00a0 new, relevant news stories.\u00a0 If we received a constant barrage of old news, we would become bored and probably change channels.\u00a0\u00a0 We want something that will touch our lives NOW.<\/p>\n<p>Sing a NEW song.\u00a0 God has given us permission to get out of the box and to more on with new energy and fresh imagination.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><div class='et-box et-info'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'>Church reformer, Martin Luther said:\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;<strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Christ is now as fresh unto me as if He had shed His blood but this very hour.<\/span><\/em><\/strong>&#8220;<\/div><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Worship Generates Anticipation!<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>An air of anticipation opened every Elvis concert in the 1970s.\u00a0 The lights would be dimmed, then several blinding spotlights would race across the theater.\u00a0 Then the sounds of &#8220;Also Sprach Zarathustra (Theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey)&#8221; would penetrate the crowd, and the BOOM-Boom\u00a0 BOOM-Boom\u00a0 BOOM-Boom\u00a0 BOOM-Boom BOOM-Boom of the timpani drums would mimic the heart pounding anticipation of the audience as the beat\u00a0 momentarily interrupted the music.\u00a0 And then suddenly, the &#8220;jump suit clad king of Rock &#8216;n roll&#8221; would appear on stage.<\/p>\n<p>People lined up way in advance to get into the theater, and the anticipation built as the opening strains of &#8220;See See Rider&#8221; approached.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s gonna be great!!!<\/p>\n<p>And yet this Psalm brings us back to what&#8217;s most important; only God Himself is great and most worthy of praise.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Elvis Could sing, But Jesus is King!<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Anticipation-_gift-687265.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-9211\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Anticipation-_gift-687265-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Anticipation _gift-687265\" width=\"239\" height=\"179\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Anticipation-_gift-687265-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/Anticipation-_gift-687265.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 239px) 100vw, 239px\" \/><\/a>Do we come with the same excitement as if we&#8217;re going to a concert?\u00a0 Do we come with the same energy and excitement as if we were entering a stadium on super Bowl Sunday and your team is playing?\u00a0 God is the star attraction.\u00a0 When we go home, the Star\u00a0 Attraction doesn&#8217;t just go his own way and leave us with a few fading memories of a great time.\u00a0 When worship is over, we can take the star attraction home with us!<\/p>\n<p>God- through the Holy Spirit- indwells us and lives with us.\u00a0 Unlike an Elvis concert of 40 years ago, we CAN relive our &#8220;concerts of worship every day.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>When you come into worship, expect and anticipate that something will happen.\u00a0 Just like when someone hands you a gift, you anticipate what might be inside the box.\u00a0 You look forward to having something that will remind you of the person who gave you the gift.\u00a0 A memory that perhaps will last a lifetime.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to the Holy Spirit, worship connects us with God.\u00a0 Even after leaving the sanctuary, God remains with us.\u00a0 Now there&#8217;s nothing boring about that!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">One More Oxymoron&#8230;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>I can think of one more oxymoron this morning:\u00a0 <strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Bored &#8211; Believer<\/span><\/em><\/strong>!\u00a0 If you truly understand what being a believer is all about, it will be impossible to be bored. If we are exalting, extending, expressing, and expecting, we will be fired up and will experience the joy ot what it means to partner with God in His kingdom work.<\/p>\n<p>Going to church on Sunday is all about worship.\u00a0 Its not about meetings or habit.\u00a0 Worship is all about Jesus.
