(10\/18\/15)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When&#8217;s the last time you ever heard of teenagers wanting to spend MORE time in church?\u00a0 Well, that&#8217;s what&#8217;s happened at PUMC!\u00a0 Our BLAST Youth fellowship used to meet on Sundays from 6:30 to 8:00 PM on Sunday.\u00a0 But the kids wanted MORE time and asked Youth Director Kate Dilks if they could start meeting a 1\/2\u00a0 hour earlier.\u00a0 So, we&#8217;re starting at 6:00 now!<\/p>\n<p>Under fresh leadership and under a renewed spirit, our youth group is growing.\u00a0 We&#8217;re also keeping busy&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Tuesdays&#8230;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Tuesday nights are a really special time at our church.\u00a0 There&#8217;s a Bible Study in the morning with Pastor Jim.\u00a0 Then (at 6:00 PM) there&#8217;s a dinner.\u00a0 After the dinner we break out for studies, and our BLAST group is one of the groups that is getting together.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday nights we&#8217;ve been looking at the parables of Jesus.\u00a0 Jesus told a lot of interesting stories&#8230; but what do they mean? What are they telling us in our day and age?\u00a0 How can WE put them to use in our lives?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Sundays&#8230;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>We&#8217;re using that extra half hour on Sunday nights to get into real &#8220;down to where the rubber meets the road&#8221; topics that meet us where we&#8217;re living.\u00a0 We&#8217;re starting a new study on the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Its-Not-About-Me-Thought\/dp\/084994709X#reader_084994709X\" target=\"_blank\">Max\u00a0Lucado book<\/a><\/span>, &#8220;<strong><em><span style=\"color: #008000;\">It&#8217;s Not About Me- Rescue from the Life We Thought Would Make us Happy<\/span><\/em><\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes we get all\u00a0 hung up in the idea of what&#8217;s in it for me.\u00a0 Even though God loves us and deeply wants a relationship with us, He&#8217;s not our magical Genie who stands by to grant our every wish. He knows better!\u00a0 He wants us to walk with Him and discover life to its fullest. It&#8217;s not about me&#8230;\u00a0 it&#8217;s all about God!!!\u00a0 Once we make that shift in thinking we&#8217;ll start living a truly unburdened life.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few quotes from this book:<\/p>\n\n\t\t<div class='et-simple-slider et_sliderfx_fade et_sliderauto_false et_sliderauto_speed_4000 et_slidertype_simple'>\n\t\t\t<div class='et-simple-slides'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-wrapper'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tGod does not exist to make a big deal out of us. Ascend the winding path outside Jerusalem. Follow the dots of bloody dirt until you crest the hill. Before looking up, pause and hear me whisper, &#8220;This is how much I love you.&#8221;\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tNeed unchanging truth to trust? Unconventional use of things like ice cream, Jell-O, pudding, and chocolate syrup made for a gooy and messy&#8230; but fun&#8230; experience.\u00a0 We filled trash cans with Jell-O and ran a relay game where we had to fish for bouncy balls in the trash cans.We really made a mess&#8230; but it all got cleaned up.<\/p>\n<p>The whole thing kind of reminded us that Christ died once and for all, no matter how &#8220;gopped and gooed&#8221; we are.<\/p>\n<p>If Eugene Peterson saw this mess, he might quote his version of Romans 10:5-10&#8230;<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-download'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Moses wrote that anyone who insists on using the law code to live right before God soon discovers it&#8217;s not so easy \u2014 every detail of life regulated by fine print!\u00a0 But trusting God to shape the right living in us is a different story \u2014 no precarious climb up to heaven to recruit the Messiah,\u00a0 no dangerous descent into hell to rescue the Messiah.\u00a0 So what exactly was Moses saying?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The word that saves is right here,<\/span>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">as near as the tongue in your mouth,<\/span>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">as close as the heart in your chest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\">It&#8217;s the word of faith that welcomes God to go to work and set things right for us.<\/span> This is the core of our preaching.\u00a0 Say the welcoming word to God \u2014 &#8220;Jesus is my Master&#8221; \u2014 embracing, body and soul, God&#8217;s work of doing in us what he did in raising Jesus from the dead. <span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\">That&#8217;s it. You&#8217;re not &#8220;doing&#8221; anything; you&#8217;re simply calling out to God, trusting him to do it for you. That&#8217;s salvation.<\/span>\u00a0 With your whole being you embrace God setting things right, and then you say it, right out loud: &#8220;<span style=\"background-color: #ffcc00;\">God has set everything right between him and me!<\/span>&#8220;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">(from THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language \u00a9 2002 by Eugene H.
