Then David heard him shout his usual taunt to the army of Israel.<\/span>\n<span style=\"color: #808080;\"> 24 As soon as the Israelite army saw him, they began to run away in fright.<\/span>\n<span style=\"color: #808080;\"> 25 &#8220;Have you seen the giant?&#8221; the men asked. &#8220;He comes out each day to defy Israel. The king has offered a huge reward to anyone who kills him. He will give that man one of his daughters for a wife, and the man&#8217;s entire family will be exempted from paying taxes!&#8221;<\/span>\n<span style=\"color: #808080;\"> 26 David asked the soldiers standing nearby, &#8220;What will a man get for killing this Philistine and ending his defiance of Israel? Who is this pagan Philistine anyway, that he is allowed to defy the armies of the living God?&#8221;<\/span>\n<span style=\"color: #808080;\"> 27 And these men gave David the same reply. They said, &#8220;Yes, that is the reward for killing him.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080;\">28 But when David&#8217;s oldest brother, Eliab, heard David talking to the men, he was angry. &#8220;What are you doing around here anyway?&#8221; he demanded. &#8220;What about those few sheep you&#8217;re supposed to be taking care of? I know about your pride and deceit. You just want to see the battle!&#8221;<\/span>\n<span style=\"color: #808080;\"> 29 &#8220;What have I done now?&#8221; David replied. &#8220;I was only asking a question!&#8221;<\/span>\n<span style=\"color: #808080;\"> 30 He walked over to some others and asked them the same thing and received the same answer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">31 Then David&#8217;s question was reported to King Saul, and the king sent for him.<\/p>\n<p>32 &#8220;Don&#8217;t worry about this Philistine,&#8221; David told Saul. &#8220;I&#8217;ll go fight him!&#8221;\n33 &#8220;Don&#8217;t be ridiculous!&#8221; Saul replied. &#8220;There&#8217;s no way you can fight this Philistine and possibly win! You&#8217;re only a boy, and he&#8217;s been a man of war since his youth.&#8221;\n34 But David persisted. &#8220;I have been taking care of my father&#8217;s sheep and goats,&#8221; he said. &#8220;When a lion or a bear comes to steal a lamb from the flock,\n35 I go after it with a club and rescue the lamb from its mouth. If the animal turns on me, I catch it by the jaw and club it to death.\n36 I have done this to both lions and bears, and I&#8217;ll do it to this pagan Philistine, too, for he has defied the armies of the living God!\n37 The Lord who rescued me from the claws of the lion and the bear will rescue me from this Philistine!&#8221; Saul finally consented. &#8220;All right, go ahead,&#8221; he said. &#8220;And may the Lord be with you!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>38 Then Saul gave David his own armor\u2014a bronze helmet and a coat of mail.\n39 David put it on, strapped the sword over it, and took a step or two to see what it was like, for he had never worn such things before. &#8220;I can&#8217;t go in these,&#8221; he protested to Saul. &#8220;I&#8217;m not used to them.&#8221; So David took them off again.<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>This story is so familiar that we have become anesthetized to it.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve turned &#8220;David and Goliath&#8221; into a cliche; even hard fought football victories have been referred to as &#8220;A David and Goliath Story.&#8221;\u00a0 It&#8217;s so easy to miss the powerful truths that are in this account.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Who or What is YOUR Goliath?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Have you ever met Goliath?\u00a0 Perhaps you have met him in the past, or maybe Goliath is troubling you even\u00a0 this morning.\u00a0 Perhaps Goliath is a vague fearsome yet unseen figure in our future.<\/p>\n<p>Most of us have had or know of a &#8220;Goliath&#8221; or two in our lives.\u00a0 Sometimes we get to the point where we allow the giant dictate our lives.<\/p>\n<p>I want to encourage you today that those &#8220;Goliaths&#8221; are already defeated by the Power of Jesus Christ!\u00a0 Like David of old, as we confront Goliath, God will defeat them and allow us to live a life\u00a0 with hope and joy.\u00a0 Check out God&#8217;s promises in these verses (New International Version)&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t<div class='tabs-left et_sliderfx_fade et_sliderauto_false et_sliderauto_speed_5000 et_slidertype_left_tabs clearfix'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et_left_tabs_bg'><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<ul class='et-tabs-control'>\n\t\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tJOHN 10\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tJOHN 6\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\t2 PETER 1\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tHEBREWS 6\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tHEBREWS 7\n\t\t<\/a><\/li>\n\t\t<\/ul> <!-- .et-tabs-control --> \n\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content'>\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-main-wrap'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-wrapper'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">John 10:9-10<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture.\u00a0 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">John 6:33 <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">John 6:50-51<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which a man may eat and not die.\u00a0 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.&#8221;\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t2 Peter 1:10-11<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall,\u00a0 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Hebrews 6:17<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath.\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Hebrews 7:25<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div> <!-- .tabs-left -->\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">David&#8217;s Goliath<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>David&#8217;s Goliath was a major life threatening physical challenge.\u00a0 Here are a few facts and statistics about David&#8217;s predicament&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\t\t<div class='et-simple-slider et_sliderfx_fade et_sliderauto_false et_sliderauto_speed_5000 et_slidertype_simple'>\n\t\t\t<div class='et-simple-slides'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-wrapper'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tThey&#8217;re &#8220;fighting&#8221; the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Philistines\" target=\"_blank\">Philistines<\/a><\/span> in the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Valley_of_Elah\" target=\"_blank\">Valley\u00a0of\u00a0Elah<\/a><\/span>&#8230;\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tThe &#8220;mighty&#8221; army of Saul is afraid to fight&#8230;\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tGoliath is over 9 feet tall!\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tGoliath&#8217;s armor weighs over 180 pounds&#8230;\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tThe shaft of Goliath&#8217;s spear is about 5 inches in diameter&#8230;\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div> <!-- .et-simple-slider -->\n\t\t\n<p>How can you defeat this enemy?\u00a0 Can you put on his &#8220;clothes&#8221; and out-Goliath Goliath?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Goliath&#8217;s Challenge:\u00a0 Faith or Fear?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The sight of this giant was imposing and generated fear in the hearts of the Israelite army.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">On hearing the Philistine&#8217;s words, Saul and all the Israelites were dismayed and terrified.<\/span><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 (1\u00a0Sam\u00a017:11)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">When the Israelites saw the man, they all ran from him in great fear.<\/span><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 (1\u00a0Sam\u00a017:24)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>What would YOU do if you were in Saul&#8217;s army?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">David&#8217;s Response:\u00a0 Dump the World&#8217;s Wardrobe<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Goliath issued the same speech morning and evening for 40 days.\u00a0 He\u00a0 ranted this challenge\u00a0 80 times and none of God&#8217;s people flinched.\u00a0 Fear had prevented them\u00a0 from moving.<\/p>\n<p>King Saul was said\u00a0 to be the tallest man in Israel.\u00a0 He was supposed to be the leader.\u00a0 he was supposed to be the one who accepted this challenge on behalf of his people.\u00a0 But that&#8217;s not how he responded.<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-shadow'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><span style=\"color: #000000;\">How do you respond to your &#8220;Goliaths&#8221;?\u00a0 You have a few options:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Do your best.\u00a0 Use the tools of the world, put on Saul&#8217;s armor and give it your best shot.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Save your skin!\u00a0 Run away and live to fight another day.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">David shows us a different option because he sees a different battle.\u00a0 This Goliath isn&#8217;t threatening him.\u00a0 The battle isn&#8217;t between this powerful Philistine army and its imposing giant.\u00a0 No.\u00a0 The battle is between those who trust in their own power and those who trust in God.\u00a0 David sees this as God&#8217;s battle, not his.<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n<p>And so when Saul offers this shepherd boy the king&#8217;s armor, David says he can&#8217;t wear that stuff.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/David-_1987_600x600.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-8536\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/David-_1987_600x600-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"David _1987_600x600\" width=\"117\" height=\"117\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/David-_1987_600x600-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/David-_1987_600x600-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/David-_1987_600x600-178x178.jpg 178w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/David-_1987_600x600-184x184.jpg 184w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/David-_1987_600x600.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 117px) 100vw, 117px\" \/><\/a>Instead he recalls his past experience where God protected him.\u00a0 He puts his confidence in God; not in himself or in Saul&#8217;s armor. He realizes that he can&#8217;t be Saul; he has to be true to who he is and to let the Holy Spirit do the rest.<\/p>\n<p>As he ditches the &#8220;emperor&#8217;s clothes&#8221; and leaves them in Saul&#8217;s tent, Goliath is defeated and is left in the field.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Lessons to be\u00a0 Learned<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">God has given all of us gifts, and He has called us to use them to defeat the &#8220;giants&#8221; in our lives.\u00a0 God isn&#8217;t just an adviser; He&#8217;s actually fighting the battle.\u00a0\u00a0 Here are a few thoughts on what we should be doing&#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">1: Never Sit Silently on the Sidelines<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>David saw a need that no one else was willing to meet and he stepped up.<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-download'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'>Someone once said, <span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;Most people wish to serve God&#8230; but only in an advisory capacity.&#8221;<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n<p>God didn&#8217;t save Saul and allow him to become king of His people just so he would freeze and be unable to lead then challenges came along.<\/p>\n<p>But what about us???<\/p>\n<p>God didn&#8217;t save you just to occupy a space in a pew!\u00a0 You were saved for service.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Saving is all his idea, and all his work. All we do is trust him enough to let him do it. It&#8217;s God&#8217;s gift from start to finish! <\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">We don&#8217;t play the major role. If we did, we&#8217;d probably go around bragging that we&#8217;d done the whole thing! <\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">No, we neither make nor save ourselves. God does both the making and saving. He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does, the good work he has gotten ready for us to do, work we had better be doing.<\/span> <\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #808080; font-size: 8pt;\">Ephesians 2:8-10\u00a0 (from THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language \u00a9 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson. All rights reserved.)<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Jesus went right at the cross; He didn&#8217;t sit on the sidelines.\u00a0 David went right at Goliath; he didn&#8217;t run away like Saul and his army.<\/p>\n<p>David was acting on God&#8217;s promises.\u00a0 This land, this God, were promised to the Israelite people.\u00a0 This wasn&#8217;t the first time God called them to step out in faith and act on that promise&#8230;<\/p>\n<div class='et-learn-more clearfix'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class='heading-more'>PROMISE<span class='et_learnmore_arrow'><span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='learn-more-content'><p><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Numbers 13:1-3<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Lord said to Moses,\u00a0 &#8220;Send some men to explore the land of Canaan, which <span style=\"background-color: #ffff99;\">I am giving to the Israelites.<\/span> From each ancestral tribe send one of its leaders.&#8221;\u00a0 So at the Lord&#8217;s command Moses sent them out from the Desert of Paran. All of them were leaders of the Israelites.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Numbers 13:17-33<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>17 When Moses sent them to explore Canaan, he said, &#8220;Go up through the Negev and on into the hill country.\u00a0 See what the land is like and whether the people who live there are strong or weak, few or many.\u00a0 What kind of land do they live in? Is it good or bad? What kind of towns do they live in? Are they unwalled or fortified?\u00a0 How is the soil? Is it fertile or poor? Are there trees on it or not? Do your best to bring back some of the fruit of the land.&#8221; (It was the season for the first ripe grapes.)<\/p>\n<p>21 So they went up and explored the land from the Desert of Zin as far as Rehob, toward Lebo Hamath.\u00a0 They went up through the Negev and came to Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai and Talmai, the descendants of Anak, lived. (Hebron had been built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)\u00a0 When they reached the Valley of Eshcol, they cut off a branch bearing a single cluster of grapes. Two of them carried it on a pole between them, along with some pomegranates and figs.\u00a0 That place was called the Valley of Eshcol because of the cluster of grapes the Israelites cut off there.\u00a0 At the end of forty days they returned from exploring the land.<\/p>\n<p>26 They came back to Moses and Aaron and the whole Israelite community at Kadesh in the Desert of Paran. There they reported to them and to the whole assembly and showed them the fruit of the land.\u00a0 They gave Moses this account: &#8220;We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit.\u00a0 But the people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large. We even saw descendants of Anak there.\u00a0 The Amalekites live in the Negev; the Hittites, Jebusites and Amorites live in the hill country; and the Canaanites live near the sea and along the Jordan.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>30 Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, &#8220;<span style=\"background-color: #ffff99;\">We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.<\/span>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>31 But the men who had gone up with him said, &#8220;We can&#8217;t attack those people; they are stronger than we are.&#8221;\u00a0 And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, &#8220;The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size.\u00a0 We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. <\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord&#8217;s, and he will give all of you into our hands.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/strong> NIV<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The battle is the Lord&#8217;s!\u00a0 The Bible consistently tells us that victory all depends on God; not on our own &#8220;armor&#8221; or strength&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t<div class='tabs-left et_sliderfx_fade et_sliderauto_false et_sliderauto_speed_5000 et_slidertype_left_tabs clearfix'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et_left_tabs_bg'><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<ul class='et-tabs-control'>\n\t\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\t2 Chronicles\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tPsalm 124\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tPhilippians 4\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\t2 Corinthians 3\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tProverbs 18\n\t\t<\/a><\/li>\n\t\t<\/ul> <!-- .et-tabs-control --> \n\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content'>\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-main-wrap'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-wrapper'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=2+chron+32&amp;version=TLB\" target=\"_blank\">2 Chronicles 32:8<\/a> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>With him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles.&#8221; And the people gained confidence from what Hezekiah the king of Judah said.\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=ps+124&amp;version=TLB\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Psalm 124:8<\/span> <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Philippians+4&amp;version=TLB\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Philippians 4:13<\/span> <\/a><\/p>\n<p>I can do everything through him who gives me strength.\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=2+Corinthians+3&amp;version=TLB\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">2 Corinthians 3:5<\/span> <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Proverbs+18&amp;version=TLB\" target=\"_blank\">Proverbs 18:10<\/a> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div> <!-- .tabs-left -->\n<p>The &#8220;Giants&#8221; in our lives laugh at us.\u00a0 They taunt us.\u00a0 They get scarier as we get closer to them.\u00a0 They tell us <strong><span style=\"color: #003366;\">WE<\/span><\/strong> can&#8217;t win.\u00a0 But the battle is God&#8217;s.\u00a0 And&#8230; <strong><span style=\"color: #003366;\">God<\/span><\/strong> WILL win!<\/p>\n<p>David never says &#8220;woe is me.&#8221;\u00a0 He knew that it was God&#8217;s battle.\u00a0 God used David&#8217;s arm, sling, and one of the 5 stones he gathered (the other 4 were for Goliath&#8217;s brothers).\u00a0 God took Goliath out through David.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">3: Never Try to Acquire Another&#8217;s Spiritual Clothing<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Saul wanted David to put on his suit of armor, and the result is comical.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s how Chuck Swindoll put it in his book &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/David-Man-Passion-And-Destiny\/dp\/0849942500\" target=\"_blank\">David a Man of Passion and Destiny<\/a>&#8220;&#8230;<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-bio'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Now picture this in your mind.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s Saul, a 52 long and David a 36 regular.\u00a0 And so Saul drags in all this heavy armor and then says, &#8220;Put this on David.&#8221;\u00a0 He hands David his sword,but it&#8217;s so big he can&#8217;t even hold the thing. He drops his oversize helmet onto his head&#8212; clunk!\u00a0 He wraps his coat of mail around the young man.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">And David says,&#8221;Saul, I can&#8217;t fight with this stuff.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t even walk in it, and I sure haven&#8217;t tested it myself in battle.&#8221;\u00a0 So David dropped Saul&#8217;s sword and slid out of the armor.<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n<p>If David wore Saul&#8217;s armor into battle- trusting in that instead of God- the outcome may have been dramatically different.<\/p>\n<p>We can&#8217;t wear someone else&#8217;s armor.\u00a0 God has given us our own unique &#8220;clothes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Romans 12:3-8<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-info'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.\u00a0 Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function,\u00a0 so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.\u00a0 <\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man&#8217;s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith.\u00a0 If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach;\u00a0 if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.<\/span> <\/em><\/strong><\/div><\/div>\n<p>If we try to wear someone else&#8217;s clothes; if we try to use someone else&#8217;s gifts&#8230; they won&#8217;t fit!\u00a0 Use the gifts God has given YOU- then you&#8217;ll be able to defeat the giant.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Conclusion<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>We should seek God&#8217;s wisdom and guidance no matter how big or small the matter is.\u00a0 We don&#8217;t know what impact our ordinary life may have on God&#8217;s plan to do extraordinary things.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-container et_sliderfx_fade et_sliderauto_false et_sliderauto_speed_5000 et_slidertype_top_tabs'>\n\t\t\t\t<ul class='et-tabs-control'>\n\t\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tROMANS\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\t1 CORINTHIANS\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\t1 THESSALONIANS\n\t\t<\/a><\/li>\n\t\t<\/ul> <!-- .et-tabs-control --> \n\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content'>\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-main-wrap'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-wrapper'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tRomans 12:12<\/p>\n<p>Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t1 Corinthians 7:16<\/p>\n<p>How do you know, wife, whether you will save your husband? Or, how do you know, husband, whether you will save your wife?\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t1 Thessalonians 5:16-18<\/p>\n<p>Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God&#8217;s will for you in Christ Jesus.\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div> <!-- .et-tabs-container -->\n<p>No matter what Goliath you or I may be facing, God is willing to give us the victory.\u00a0 Paul stressesthat truth over and over in Romans chapter 8&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #003300;\">Rom 8:31-32<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose?<\/span> <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #003300;\">Rom 8:37-39<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us.\u00a0 I&#8217;m absolutely convinced that nothing \u2014 nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow,\u00a0 high or low, thinkable or unthinkable \u2014 absolutely nothing can get between us and God&#8217;s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.<\/span> <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 8pt; color: #808080;\">(from THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language \u00a9 2002 by Eugene H. All rights reserved.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Can we employ the faith of David who went straight at Goliath saying, &#8220;<strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">You come at me with a big sword&#8230; but I come at you with God!<\/span><\/em><\/strong>&#8221;\u00a0 Do we see God and victory?\u00a0 Or, are we blinded by hopelessness and defeat?<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<div class='et-box et-download'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A young woman named <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.epm.org\/resources\/2010\/Jan\/21\/florence-chadwick-and-fog\/\" target=\"_blank\">Florence Chadwick<\/a> <\/span>attempted to swim from Catalina Island to the California coast in 1952 in an attempt to set a record for covering that distance.
