So a man from Bethlehem in Judah left his home and went to live in the country of Moab, taking his wife and two sons with him.<\/span>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">2 The man&#8217;s name was Elimelech, and his wife was Naomi. Their two sons were Mahlon and Kilion. They were Ephrathites from Bethlehem in the land of Judah. And when they reached Moab, they settled there.<\/span>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">3 Then Elimelech died, and Naomi was left with her two sons.<\/span>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">4 The two sons married Moabite women. One married a woman named Orpah, and the other a woman named Ruth. But about ten years later,<\/span>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">5 both Mahlon and Kilion died. This left Naomi alone, without her two sons or her husband.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">6 Then Naomi heard in Moab that the Lord had blessed his people in Judah by giving them good crops again. So Naomi and her daughters-in-law got ready to leave Moab to return to her homeland.<\/span>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">7 With her two daughters-in-law she set out from the place where she had been living, and they took the road that would lead them back to Judah.<\/span>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">8 But on the way, Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, &#8220;Go back to your mothers&#8217; homes. And may the Lord reward you for your kindness to your husbands and to me.<\/span>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">9 May the Lord bless you with the security of another marriage.&#8221; Then she kissed them good-bye, and they all broke down and wept.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">10 &#8220;No,&#8221; they said. &#8220;We want to go with you to your people.&#8221;<\/span>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">11 But Naomi replied, &#8220;Why should you go on with me? Can I still give birth to other sons who could grow up to be your husbands?<\/span>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">12 No, my daughters, return to your parents&#8217; homes, for I am too old to marry again. And even if it were possible, and I were to get married tonight and bear sons, then what?<\/span>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">13 Would you wait for them to grow up and refuse to marry someone else? No, of course not, my daughters! Things are far more bitter for me than for you, because the Lord himself has raised his fist against me.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">14 And again they wept together, and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law good-bye. But Ruth clung tightly to Naomi.<\/span>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">15 &#8220;Look,&#8221; Naomi said to her, &#8220;your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her gods. You should do the same.&#8221;<\/span>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">16 But Ruth replied, &#8220;Don&#8217;t ask me to leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.<\/span>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">17 Wherever you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. All rights reserved.<\/span><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">A Ruthless Period&#8230;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The book of Judges is a dramatic record of how &#8220;Everyone did what was right in their own eyes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Mt-Nebo-_59-33_600x.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-7063 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Mt-Nebo-_59-33_600x-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Mt.Nebo. Naomi&#8217;s husband decides to leave Israel to escape the famine&#8230; Naomi&#8217;s sons decide to marry women from Moab&#8230; Naomi encourages her daughters-in-law to return to &#8220;their gods.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Naomi was looking for &#8220;Comfort Food.&#8221;\u00a0 When things go bad, we look to the familiar; we want to go back to the way we were before and we don&#8217;t see where God may be trying to take us.<\/p>\n<p>But God has a different purpose.\u00a0 He uses one of these non-Jewish women (one of &#8220;Those People&#8221;) to carry on the blood line which led to David and eventually to Jesus.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">What the World Needs Now is Love Sweet Love&#8230;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>In a very real way, this is a love story.\u00a0 We get a vivid picture of the young woman (Ruth) hanging on to Naomi- refusing to leave her mother-in-law as her older sister turns towards the other direction and as Naomi returns to her people.\u00a0 Ruth says:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8220;Don&#8217;t ask me to leave you!\u00a0 Let me go with you.\u00a0 Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.\u00a0 Wherever you die, I will de, and that is where I will be buried.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This is an amazing picture.\u00a0 What superlatives can we find to describe such love between a mother-in-law and a daughter-in-law?\u00a0 Our English word &#8220;Love&#8221; doesn&#8217;t cover it.\u00a0 The Greek language does a better job at capturing the various meanings of Love:<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-shadow'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><div class='et-tabs-container et_sliderfx_fade et_sliderauto_false et_sliderauto_speed_5000 et_slidertype_top_tabs'>\n\t\t\t\t<ul class='et-tabs-control'>\n\t\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tEros\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tPhileo\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tStorge\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tAgape\n\t\t<\/a><\/li>\n\t\t<\/ul> <!-- .et-tabs-control --> \n\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content'>\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-main-wrap'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-wrapper'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tThis is the erotic love which is experienced by a husband and wife.\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tThe love that we might have for friends. &#8220;Brotherly Love&#8221; (PHILAdelphia).\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tThis is family love; the love between a brother and sister.\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tAn outgoing, costly, freely given kind of love which is best seen in Jesus Christ.\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div> <!-- .et-tabs-container --><\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t<div class='et-simple-slider et_sliderfx_fade et_sliderauto_false et_sliderauto_speed_5000 et_slidertype_simple'>\n\t\t\t<div class='et-simple-slides'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-wrapper'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">QUESTION:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Which type of love was shown by Ruth when she decided to stay with Naomi?<\/span> (<span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">click &#8220;Next&#8221; to reveal\u00a0 the answer<\/span>)\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">ANSWER:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Agape<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div> <!-- .et-simple-slider --><\/div><\/div>\n<p>How can we wrap our heads around this kind of love? Our culture tells us that love isn&#8217;t so much what I can give to a relationship; it&#8217;s what I can get from the relationship.\u00a0 The love that Ruth shows here is completely selfless, generous&#8230; and rare.\u00a0 She&#8217;s not asking &#8220;What&#8217;s in it for me?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>When the sister Orpah turned around (at Naomi&#8217;s\u00a0 encouragement), she was demonstrating human logic. Leaving Naomi\u00a0 and returning to her own culture was a logical thing to do.\u00a0 But God defies our human logic!\u00a0 Our logic can&#8217;t chase God away. Even our sin can&#8217;t chase God away.\u00a0 God continues to pursue us, even as Ruth &#8220;pursued&#8221; Naomi by following her against all logic.<\/p>\n<p>This is the same love that Jesus demonstrated&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t<div class='tabs-left et_sliderfx_fade et_sliderauto_false et_sliderauto_speed_5000 et_slidertype_left_tabs clearfix'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et_left_tabs_bg'><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<ul class='et-tabs-control'>\n\t\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tJohn 8\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tMatthew 21\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tLuke 19\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tJohn 3:16\n\t\t<\/a><\/li>\n\t\t<\/ul> <!-- .et-tabs-control --> \n\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content'>\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-main-wrap'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-wrapper'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">John 8:3-11<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As he was speaking, the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in the act of adultery. They put her in front of the crowd.\u00a0 &#8220;Teacher,&#8221; they said to Jesus, &#8220;this woman was caught in the act of adultery.\u00a0 The law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>6 They were trying to trap him into saying something they could use against him, but Jesus stooped down and wrote in the dust with his finger.\u00a0 They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, &#8220;All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>8 Then he stooped down again and wrote in the dust.\u00a0 When the accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one, beginning with the oldest, until only Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman.<\/p>\n<p>10 Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, &#8220;Where are your accusers? Didn&#8217;t even one of them condemn you?&#8221;\u00a0 &#8220;No, Lord,&#8221; she said. And Jesus said, &#8220;Neither do I. Go and sin no more.&#8221;\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Matt 21:31<\/span><\/strong> (<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">regarding a son who initially said &#8220;yes&#8221; but didn&#8217;t do it and a son who initially said &#8220;no&#8221; but ended up doing it anyway&#8230;<\/span><\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Which of the two obeyed his father?&#8221; They replied, &#8220;The first.&#8221; Then Jesus explained his meaning: &#8220;I tell you the truth, corrupt tax collectors and prostitutes will get into the Kingdom of God before you do.&#8221;\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Luke 19:10<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.&#8221;\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">John 3:16<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>(from THE MESSAGE)\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div> <!-- .tabs-left -->\n<p>Jesus had no regard whatsoever with how He would benefit from giving Himself totally in love.\u00a0 He was prepared to endure the stares of those who disapproved of his mixing with prostitutes and tax collectors,\u00a0 He forgave and loved those who were totally (in our eyes) unlovable.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Responses to\u00a0 Suffering&#8230;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>There&#8217;s much to be learned ab out HOPE in SUFFERING in this text.\u00a0 Together, each of these three individuals experienced hardship upon hardship- and they each responded to it differently.\u00a0 The question isn&#8217;t IF suffering will occur, but WHEN.<\/p>\n<p>WHEN suffering occurs,how will WE respond to it?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">1-\u00a0 Naomi:\u00a0 Hopes in Nothing<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>In verses 19-22 we see that Naomi has been left in a state of despair.\u00a0 She&#8217;s not trying to control her suffering, nor is she running from it.\u00a0 She is sitting smack dab in the middle of it and it has left her feeling &#8220;Bitter.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-download'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> So the two of them continued on their journey. When they came to Bethlehem, the entire town was excited by their arrival. &#8220;Is it really Naomi?&#8221; the women asked.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> &#8220;Don&#8217;t call me Naomi,&#8221; she responded. &#8220;Instead, call me Mara, <span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\">for the Almighty has made life very bitter for me<\/span>.\u00a0 I went away full, but <span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\">the Lord has brought me home empty<\/span>. Why call me Naomi when the Lord has caused me to suffer and <span style=\"background-color: #ffff00;\">the Almighty has sent such tragedy upon me<\/span>?&#8221; <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">So Naomi returned from Moab, accompanied by her daughter-in-law Ruth, the young Moabite woman. They arrived in Bethlehem in late spring, at the beginning of the barley harvest.<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n<p>She&#8217;s in a &#8220;woe is me&#8221;, &#8220;the glass is half empty&#8221; attitude.<\/p>\n<p>But as bitter as she is, at least she holds on to some serious theology:\u00a0 God is in control- even in the face of affliction.\u00a0 Maybe that does help her to hang on to some hope (Psalm 34:19)&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">A righteous man may have many troubles,<\/span><\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">but the Lord delivers him from them all;<\/span> <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This doesn&#8217;t mean that God causes every bad thing that happens.\u00a0 But it does mean that God is King, God reigns; even in the face of suffering and affliction, God is in control of everything that happens in our lives.<\/p>\n<p>Noami is bitter, but the door is still open to God.<\/p>\n<p>In the midst of our suffering, are we swallowed up by bitterness?\u00a0 Are we paralyzed?\u00a0 Or, do we cling to God for hope. Suffering is temporary&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/strong> 1 Peter 5:10-11<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">God is our refuge and strength,<\/span><\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">always ready to help in times of trouble.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">\u00a0So we will not fear when earthquakes come<\/span><\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">and the mountains crumble into the sea.<\/span><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 Psalm 46:1-2<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When bad things happen, God is still in control.\u00a0 When we cling to Him in faith, He will bring something good out of the bad&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t<div class='tabs-left et_sliderfx_fade et_sliderauto_false et_sliderauto_speed_5000 et_slidertype_left_tabs clearfix'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et_left_tabs_bg'><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<ul class='et-tabs-control'>\n\t\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tRomans 8:35\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tJames 1:12\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tGenesis 50:20\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tJames 1:3\n\t\t<\/a><\/li>\n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\t1 Corinthians 1:9\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tZechariah 13:9\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tNehemiah 1:5\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tRomans 8:28\n\t\t<\/a><\/li><\/p>\n\t\t<\/ul> <!-- .et-tabs-control --><\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content'>\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-main-wrap'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-wrapper'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<strong><span style=\"color: #003300;\">Romans 8:35-39 <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Can anything ever separate us from Christ&#8217;s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death? (As the Scriptures say, &#8220;For your sake we are killed every day; we are being slaughtered like sheep.&#8221;)<\/p>\n<p>No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.\u00a0 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God&#8217;s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow\u2014not even the powers of hell can separate us from God&#8217;s love.<\/p>\n<p>No power in the sky above or in the earth below\u2014indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. NLT\n\t\t<\/div><\/p>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<strong><span style=\"color: #003300;\">James 1:12-13<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. NLT\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<strong><span style=\"color: #003300;\">Genesis 50:20-21 <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt; color: #333300;\"><em>Joseph to his brothers&#8230;<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<strong><span style=\"color: #003300;\">James 1:1b-3<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.\u00a0 For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.<\/p>\n<p>So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. NLT\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<strong><span style=\"color: #003300;\">1 Corinthians 1:8-9<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He will keep you strong to the end so that you will be free from all blame on the day when our Lord Jesus Christ returns.<\/p>\n<p>God will do this, for he is faithful to do what he says, and he has invited you into partnership with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.\u00a0\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<p><strong><span style=\"color: #003300;\">Zechariah 13:9<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I will bring that group through the fire and make them pure.\nI will refine them like silver and purify them like gold.\nThey will call on my name, and I will answer them.\nI will say, &#8216;These are my people,&#8217; and they will say, &#8216;The Lord is our God.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>NLT\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<p><strong><span style=\"color: #003300;\">Nehemiah 1:5<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;O Lord, God of heaven, the great and awesome God who keeps his covenant of unfailing love with those who love him and obey his commands&#8230;&#8221;\u00a0 NLT\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<p><strong><span style=\"color: #003300;\">Romans 8:28<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.\u00a0 NLT\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div> <!-- .tabs-left -->\n<div class='et-box et-warning'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If we cling to bitterness and wallow in a &#8220;woe is me&#8221; attitude, our vision of God&#8217;s agape love will be clouded, and we won&#8217;t find the hope He so desperately wants us to have.<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">2- Orpah:\u00a0 Hopes in False Gods<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Then we have Orpah.\u00a0 She runs from suffering and places her hope in false gods.\u00a0 She&#8217;s willing to try her luck on Match.com.<\/p>\n<p>Do we trust God with every detail?\u00a0 Or, do we rush to our &#8220;human logic&#8221; and do what seems best in our own eyes?<\/p>\n<p>Most of us probably view what Orpah does as reasonable.\u00a0 This is the ordinary &#8220;human&#8221; response to a bad situation that&#8217;s our of our control.\u00a0 She is returning to what she has known and is comfortable with.\u00a0 Instead of the God of Israel, she&#8217;s seeking the &#8220;gods of her comfort zone.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The world tries to draw us into its version of Comfort Zone.<\/p>\n<p>Just as with Johnny Lee&#8217;s 1980 hit (&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lookin'_for_Love\" target=\"_blank\">Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places<\/a>), the world tries to get us to look for strength (&#8220;gods&#8221;) in all the wrong places.\u00a0 Christmas Ads try to convince us to think that we &#8220;Can&#8217;t live without ____&#8221;. (<em>Check Out Pastor Jim&#8217;s sermon, &#8220;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=4918\" target=\"_blank\">A Green Christmas<\/a>.<\/span>&#8220;<\/em>)\u00a0 But true strength- and true hope- can only be found in God.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">3- Ruth:\u00a0 Hopes in Faith<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Finally, there&#8217;s Ruth the Moabite- the now Jew- the one who will be redeemed into the family of God.\u00a0 The story of Ruth is the story of us!<\/p>\n<p>Ruth experiences the same suffering, but she responds completely differently\u00a0 She does not try to run, she does not remain bitter, she in fact walks deeper into her faith in the face of suffering.\u00a0 She takes the same &#8220;walk into faith&#8221; that Jesus calls us into:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: center;\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace.\u00a0 In the world you will have tribulation but be of good cheer:\u00a0 I have overcome the world!\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/strong> (John 16:33)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In Matthew 14, after Peter stepped out onto the water to walk to Jesus but then started to sink when he saw the waver, Jesus tells Peter &#8220;Oh ye of little faith.&#8221;\u00a0 But it was that &#8220;little faith&#8221; that enabled Peter to step out onto the water in the first place.<\/p>\n<p>This Moabite woman had &#8220;little faith.&#8221;\u00a0 She stepped out, and it turned Naomi&#8217;s life around and led to the lineage from which Jesus came.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Conclusion<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>There IS hope in suffering.\u00a0 God is a God of wisdom, a God of foresight, a God of love.\u00a0 The story of Ruth reminds us that God works within the ashes of creation to create beauty.\u00a0 God is King and He reigns in all the affairs of men, big and small, nations and families.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-container et_sliderfx_fade et_sliderauto_false et_sliderauto_speed_5000 et_slidertype_top_tabs'>\n\t\t\t\t<ul class='et-tabs-control'>\n\t\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tPSALM 47\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tREVELATION\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tDANIEL\n\t\t<\/a><\/li>\n\t\t<\/ul> <!-- .et-tabs-control --> \n\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content'>\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-main-wrap'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-wrapper'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tPsalm 47:7<\/p>\n<p>For God is the King over all the earth. Praise him with a psalm!\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tRevelation 19:16<\/p>\n<p>On his robe at his thigh was written this title: King of all kings and Lord of all lords.\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tDaniel 4:17<\/p>\n<p>For this has been decreed by the messengers; it is commanded by the holy ones, so that everyone may know that the Most High rules over the kingdoms of the world.
