He did the same with the fish.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">12 When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, &#8220;Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">13 So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">14 After the people saw the miraculous sign that Jesus did, they began to say, &#8220;Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">15 Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">16 When evening came, his disciples went down to the lake,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">17 where they got into a boat and set off across the lake for Capernaum. By now it was dark, and Jesus had not yet joined them.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4040\" style=\"width: 193px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Sea-Galilee-Fishermen-_47-12_600w.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4040\" class=\" wp-image-4040\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Sea-Galilee-Fishermen-_47-12_600w-300x202.jpg\" alt=\"Fishermen on the Sea of Galilee\" width=\"183\" height=\"123\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Sea-Galilee-Fishermen-_47-12_600w-300x202.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Sea-Galilee-Fishermen-_47-12_600w-140x94.jpg 140w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/Sea-Galilee-Fishermen-_47-12_600w.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 183px) 100vw, 183px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-4040\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fishermen on the Sea of Galilee<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">18 A strong wind was blowing and the waters grew rough.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">19 When they had rowed three or three and a half miles, they saw Jesus approaching the boat, walking on the water; and they were terrified.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">20 But he said to them, &#8220;It is I; don&#8217;t be afraid.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">21 Then they were willing to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading.<\/span><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We are bombarded by situations over which we have no control- just look at some recent news stories; a surfer is attacked by a shark, a family trying to outrun a forest fire, shooters in churches and theaters.\u00a0 You see the videos, you hear the voices- they are full of panic!\u00a0\u00a0 Fear and despair take over our thinking and abilities, and we find it hard to conjure up a rational plan of dealing with the situation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-shadow'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">In the early 70\u2019s my wife and I were Senior High Counselors. One of the activities we did was to take the youth group to work with the Appalachian Service Project (<span style=\"font-size: 12pt; color: #800000;\">check out <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?page_id=541\" target=\"_blank\">Redbird\u00a0Mission<\/a><\/span><\/span>). We went to help the people have a little better way of life. We would repair roofs, put up siding, paint, replace porches, build rooms, and repair steps. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">One trip we were sent deeper into the mountains to help. The kids worked very hard and we decided we would take a half a day and have a picnic, because there were no other activities close by. We went to a local National Park, and the two counselors and I got the bright idea to take a hike on one of the trails. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">We had about an hour before the sun would set, so we selected what was supposed to be the shortest and easiest trail.\u00a0 We saw beautiful sights, animals and vegetation. We kept walking expecting the trail to turn back, it didn\u2019t. As time passed we reached a point where we could not return the way we had come. It would be dark and we didn\u2019t have flashlights. When the sun sets in the mountains it is very dark. I looked right and there was a river, we couldn\u2019t go that way, the left side was so steep we could not climb the hill, our only option was to continue. We walked a little further, came to a small stream with a log to cross. We made it across and continued, then the trail narrowed to just a little used path.\u00a0 What now?\u00a0 More later&#8230;<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Panic:\u00a0 &#8220;You Feed Them!!!&#8221;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Imagine being in Citizens Bank Park watching a Phillies game (back when big crowds actually attended the games&#8230;).\u00a0 It&#8217;s getting late in the day, the game&#8217;s dragging on in the 5th inning, and everyone is tired and hungry.\u00a0 Then out of the blue, Jesus appears and gives you the task of feeding the crowd!\u00a0 They&#8217;re out of hot dogs.\u00a0 No more Schmitters at Harry the K&#8217;s.\u00a0 No more cheese steaks at Tony Lukes! Thousands of hungry people, and YOU&#8217;RE supposed to get a meal together for them?\u00a0 And it&#8217;s the Son of God Himself asking you to do this- you don&#8217;t want to dare to let Him down!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Panic!!!<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s exactly where the disciples were on that day beside the Sea of Galilee.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle;\">\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">PHILLIP<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0 Jesus first turned to Phillip with a simple (?) question: &#8220;<span style=\"color: #008000;\">Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?<\/span>&#8221;<br \/>\nPhillip&#8217;s reaction was Panic&#8230; &#8220;<span style=\"color: #008000;\">Are you kidding?\u00a0 Eight month&#8217;s wages wouldn&#8217;t be enough.<\/span>&#8220;<\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">ANDREW<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0 Then Andrew stepped in.<br \/>\nAndrew&#8217;s reaction was faith.\u00a0 He didn&#8217;t have the answer but he thought that he might have a part of the solution; five small barley loaves and two small fish.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Jesus first knew that Phillip couldn\u2019t do what he was asking, I imagine that Jesus might have had a small smile on his face, and he was playing with Phillip. \u00a0 Jesus already knew how He was going to feed them. Jesus was teaching Phillip to trust.<\/p>\n<p>There is a distinct difference between Phillip and Andrew. Philip was the man who said: \u2018<span style=\"color: #008000;\">The situation is hopeless; nothing can be done.<\/span>\u2019 Andrew was the man who said: \u2018<span style=\"color: #008000;\">I\u2019ll see what I can do; and I\u2019ll trust Jesus to do the rest.<\/span>\u2019<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Panic:\u00a0 We&#8217;re Going to Drown!<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Imagine being one of the violinists in the band who was on the Titanic.\u00a0 The ship is taking on water, all of the life boats are gone, and you know you have no hope.\u00a0 Instead, you do what you&#8217;ve been trained to do; play music.\u00a0 As the icy water pulls you to your death, you leave the world with thoughts of &#8220;nearer my God to Thee.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But couldn&#8217;t we also imagine being on a boat in the middle of the Sea of Galilee,\u00a0 miles from the shore, when a violent storm suddenly arises?\u00a0 The wind is dumping water into your small boat and you&#8217;re sure there&#8217;s no hope.\u00a0 There&#8217;s nothing you can do.\u00a0 And if that&#8217;s not bad enough, all of a sudden as you gaze across the churning water, you see a ghost!\u00a0 Something that looks like Jesus but&#8230;\u00a0 this can&#8217;t be!\u00a0 You have no control over the situation and you panic.<\/p>\n<p>And yet- it IS Jesus!!!\u00a0 The outcome on the Titanic was death, the outcome\u00a0 on the fishing boat was life, but in both situations Jesus was there to offer His Peace.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus was up in the hills praying, but He saw the disciples rowing, He saw the storm, He saw their anguish. He put his own needs aside and came to the disciples. He took care of their needs, he gave them strength and assurance. He didn\u2019t leave them to fail.<\/p>\n<p>This account shows us that Jesus watches us, even though we may not be aware of it. Jesus knows our needs, before we even know we need them and he gives us what we need, at just the right time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The Rest of the Story&#8230;<\/span><\/h3>\n<div class='et-box et-shadow'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Back to the hiking story&#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">The night before at dinner one of the kids asked me if I had been in a panic situation and how did I handle it.\u00a0 I thought for a while, and answered I had never been in a situation where I felt panic. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">Back to the woods, we just crossed a small stream and the path became narrow and didn\u2019t appear to be well used. We had to do something!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">The first thing I did was pray, next I took the lead. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">I felt the need to move faster before the sunlight started to die, at that moment we came upon a macadam road. I said I would go on they should wait. Which way, to the right the road sloped down, it looked like the easiest way, but I was nudged, actually I felt I had to go to the left uphill, and that is what I did. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">I started to run, I was never a track star, I was slow. I ran and was getting tired, wondering if I had made the right decision. I was tired and having trouble breathing, but as I came around a bend a refreshing breeze hit me and gave me new energy.\u00a0 A little further, and I came to the entrance of the park and found the rest of our group.\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14pt;\">After driving the short distance to pick up the other hikers, I noticed that they were just a little under a mile away.\u00a0 In the service it took me about 6 \u00bd minutes to run a mile.\u00a0 Years later, in this panic situation, it took me just a little more than 5 minutes to run that mile.\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #003300;\">God provided and strengthened me in this situation&#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">From Panic to Peace&#8230;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/fear-441402__180.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-6635\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/fear-441402__180.jpg\" alt=\"fear-441402__180\" width=\"163\" height=\"115\" \/><\/a>So how do you deal with those panic situations?\u00a0 Is there some way to prepare for them so that you can survive when seemingly hopeless circumstances suddenly thrust their way into your life?<\/p>\n<p>Four\u00a0 things.\u00a0 They sound so &#8220;churchy&#8221; and obvious, but in my situation they proved to be so true.\u00a0 Click the drop down links to unwrap these Four powerful roads to God&#8217;s peace&#8230;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">1:\u00a0 Pray<\/span><\/h4>\n<div class='et-learn-more clearfix'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class='heading-more'>PRAY<span class='et_learnmore_arrow'><span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='learn-more-content'><p>First, pray!\u00a0 Be sure that Jesus is part of what is happening or more importantly- that YOU&#8217;RE a part of what Jesus is doing)&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Ephesians++6%3A10-18&amp;version=NLT\" target=\"_blank\">Ephesians 6:18<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><em>And pray in the Spirit <span style=\"background-color: #ffcc00;\">on all occasions<\/span> with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">2: Listen<\/span><\/h4>\n<div class='et-learn-more clearfix'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class='heading-more'>LISTEN<span class='et_learnmore_arrow'><span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='learn-more-content'><p>Don&#8217;t just shoot up a prayer and give up.\u00a0 Prayer is a conversation, and we need to listen in order to recognize God&#8217;s answer.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John+10%3A1-4&amp;version=NLT\" target=\"_blank\">John 10:3-4<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep <span style=\"background-color: #ffcc00;\">listen<\/span> to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.\u00a0 When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them&#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">3: Trust<\/span><\/h4>\n<div class='et-learn-more clearfix'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class='heading-more'>TRUST<span class='et_learnmore_arrow'><span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='learn-more-content'><p>Trust God. God is the only one in our lives that we can trust without reservation.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Romans+15%3A1-13&amp;version=NLT\" target=\"_blank\">Romans 15:13<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you <span style=\"background-color: #ffcc00;\">trust<\/span> in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John+14&amp;version=NLT\" target=\"_blank\">John 14:1<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">\u201cDo not let your hearts be troubled. <span style=\"background-color: #ffcc00;\">Trust<\/span> in God; trust also in me.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">4: Obey<\/span><\/h4>\n<div class='et-learn-more clearfix'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class='heading-more'>OBEY<span class='et_learnmore_arrow'><span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='learn-more-content'><p>Prayers, and even understanding of God&#8217;s will don&#8217;t do any good unless we follow Him.\u00a0 We must have the faith to trust Him and then the will to obey Him, however &#8220;senseless&#8221; His direction might sound to us.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=James+1%3A19-22&amp;version=NLT\" target=\"_blank\">James 1:22<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. and his sheep <span style=\"background-color: #ffcc00;\">follow him<\/span> because they know his voice.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John+15%3A1-10&amp;version=NLT\" target=\"_blank\">John 15:10<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">If you <span style=\"background-color: #ffcc00;\">obey<\/span> my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father\u2019s commands and remain in his love.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>God knows us, God loves, God cares for us. He will never leave us alone and He will always provide just what we need. We must obey as he leads.<\/p>\n<p>You and I must be prepared, there will be troubles in our life. I would love to believe that they won\u2019t enter our lives, but that would be a lie.
