PUMC Hosts Camp Meeting (7\/26\/15)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our church was the host church for the Sunday Camp Meeting service on July 26.\u00a0 Members from our praise team lead the music and Pastor Jim preached a sermon on Matthew 14:22-33 entitled &#8220;Let&#8217;s Go Surfing!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Scroll down to listen to a recording of the sermon and to follow through the summary.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-shadow'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">PUMC Hosts the Camp Meeting Service<\/span><\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_8083\" style=\"width: 238px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Ann-Downham-Grove-2015-7-26-_IMG_2284.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8083\" class=\"wp-image-8083 \" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Ann-Downham-Grove-2015-7-26-_IMG_2284-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Ann Downham - Grove 2015-7-26 _IMG_2284\" width=\"228\" height=\"171\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Ann-Downham-Grove-2015-7-26-_IMG_2284-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Ann-Downham-Grove-2015-7-26-_IMG_2284.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 228px) 100vw, 228px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-8083\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ann Downham sings the offertory<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Each week, different United Methodist Churches from the area serve as hosts for the service.\u00a0 The host churches usually supply the music, and their pastor gives the message.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">There was a bit of a controversy at the beginning of the sermon, however.\u00a0 Someone had informed Pastor Jim that he was wearing the same shirt which he wore during his sermon last year (&#8220;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=2933\" target=\"_blank\">Don&#8217;t Give Up<\/a><\/span>&#8220;) on August 3, 2014.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Pastor Jim admitted that his shirt might have been the same,\u00a0 but he also insisted that his hair color and shoes had definitely changed since least year&#8217;s appearance.\u00a0 Thanks to the wonder of Internet website technology (and the fortunate serendipity that a picture was taken to mark last year&#8217;s service), we can hereby disprove- <em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">almost<\/span><\/em> beyond despite- that Pastor Jim <em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">maybe<\/span><\/em> did NOT wear the same shirt two years in a row!\u00a0 Similar- yes.\u00a0 But identical- absolutely not&#8230; the blue stripes <em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">seem to<\/span> <\/em>have a white background instead of yellow.\u00a0 And yes- it wasn&#8217;t tucked in last year but it was tucked in this year.\u00a0 As for the shoes, we don&#8217;t have enough evidence to draw any conclusions.\u00a0 As for the hair&#8230; no comment&#8230;<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><em>Now that we&#8217;ve addressed these &#8220;important issues&#8221;&#8230; let&#8217;s get into the Word of God!\u00a0 God&#8217;s Word is the only truth we can depend on (as demonstrated by the above discussion about our &#8220;shirt mystery&#8221;).<br \/>\n<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><em>Click the below &#8220;Play&#8221; It is I; do not be afraid.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>28 And Peter answered Him and said, &#8220;Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>29 So He said, &#8220;Come.&#8221; And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.<\/p>\n<p>30 But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, &#8220;Lord, save me!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, &#8220;O you of little faith, why did you doubt?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.<\/p>\n<p>33 Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, &#8220;Truly You are the Son of God.&#8221;<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">\u00a0Let&#8217;s Go Surfin&#8217; Now Everybody&#8217;s Learning How&#8230;.<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Ah yes.\u00a0 The 60s.\u00a0 Jan and Dean.\u00a0 The Beach Boys.\u00a0 And a host of other one-hit wonder groups.\u00a0 Every musical group was in the surfing craze for a while.\u00a0 But by most accounts, the Beach Boys led the &#8220;safari&#8221;.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s a clip from 1962 when the Beach Boys were really &#8220;Boys&#8221;&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=sOg1MxozVPc<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Surfers almost have a spiritual connection with the board, water, and waves.\u00a0 When it&#8217;s done right, it looks easy. It&#8217;s graceful.\u00a0 Maybe that&#8217;s because of the &#8220;total focus of energy and attention by the surfer to the task of surfing. It&#8217;s absolutely meditative.&#8221; (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lajollasurf.org\/tao\" target=\"_blank\">Reference<\/a>).\u00a0 Surfing reminds us that the life we&#8217;re given is where we need to spend our time. We&#8217;re all called by God to be &#8220;soul surfers.&#8221;\u00a0 to experience life as God would have it, to be all that we are called to be, to &#8220;<strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">have this attitude in you which was also in Christ Jesus<\/span><\/em><\/strong>&#8221; (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Philippians+2%3A1-5&amp;version=NLT\" target=\"_blank\">Philippians 2:5<\/a><\/span>) we can all learn from surfing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<table style=\"border-color: #f70a2a;\" cellpadding=\"14\">\n<tbody>\n<tr style=\"border-color: #000000;\">\n<td style=\"border-color: #000000; vertical-align: middle; text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">SURFING THE WAVES<\/span><\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"border-color: #000000; vertical-align: middle; text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">WALKING WITH CHRIST<\/span><\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"border-color: #000000;\">\n<td style=\"border-color: #000000; vertical-align: middle;\">Become &#8220;one with the board.&#8221;<\/td>\n<td style=\"border-color: #000000; vertical-align: middle;\">\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John+17%3A1-21&amp;version=NLT\" target=\"_blank\">John 17:20-21 <\/a><\/span>\u00a0 &#8220;My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Galatians+3%3A23-28&amp;version=NLT\" target=\"_blank\">Galatians 3:26-28<\/a><\/span> \u00a0 You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus,\u00a0 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.\u00a0 There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"border-color: #000000;\">\n<td style=\"border-color: #000000; vertical-align: middle;\">Focus on the point of destination.<\/td>\n<td style=\"border-color: #000000; vertical-align: middle;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Hebrews+12%3A1-2&amp;version=NLT\" target=\"_blank\">Hebrews 12:1-2<\/a><\/span>\u00a0\u00a0 Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.\u00a0 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr style=\"border-color: #000000;\">\n<td style=\"border-color: #000000; text-align: center; vertical-align: middle;\">Move together with the board to ride through life&#8217;s waves.<\/td>\n<td style=\"border-color: #000000; text-align: center; vertical-align: middle;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John+15%3A1-4&amp;version=NLT\" target=\"_blank\">John 15:4<\/a><\/span>\u00a0\u00a0 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There are Five things about surfing that we can learn from to help us in our Spiritual walk with God.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000080;\">1:\u00a0 Waves are Needed<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t have waves, you can&#8217;t surf.<\/p>\n<p>The Beach Boys sang:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;Catch a Wave and You&#8217;re Sitting on Top of the World&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>But it&#8217;s all about timing.\u00a0 In our scripture, notice how Jesus arrives &#8220;just in time.&#8221;\u00a0 In order to catch a wave we need to paddle out and then stand up at just the right time.\u00a0 What if Peter just stepped out on to the water before Jesus called him?\u00a0 What if Peter acted on his own, outside of God&#8217;s timing?<\/p>\n<p>Psalm 37:7 reminds us to: <strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him<\/span><\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>We need to wait for the &#8220;Jesus Moment&#8221;; sometimes we try to outrun Christ and we do things without Him.\u00a0 We sometimes miss out on blessings from God because we&#8217;re too far ahead of God&#8217;s\u00a0 timing. Are we so in tune with our Savior that we know His timing?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000080;\">2: Must Move Toward the Waves<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Surfers goes out towards the waves.\u00a0 They don&#8217;t wait for the waves\u00a0 to reach them.\u00a0 We can&#8217;t live in denial of a problem.\u00a0 In fact, that&#8217;s a silly thing to do since God has given us the power to get through the problems.\u00a0 If you avoid problems, like waves, they will get bigger and bigger.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>They have a game plan.\u00a0 They know which foot will be placed in front and which will be in back. <a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/surfing-817958__180.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-8143\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/surfing-817958__180.jpg\" alt=\"surfing-817958__180\" width=\"262\" height=\"158\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/surfing-817958__180.jpg 299w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/surfing-817958__180-178x108.jpg 178w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/surfing-817958__180-132x79.jpg 132w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 262px) 100vw, 262px\" \/><\/a>They can&#8217;t decide later on (in the midst of the wave) which stance feels more comfortable.<\/li>\n<li>The board is waxed up according to the water conditions.\u00a0 Some waxes are more efficient in warm water, others in cold.<\/li>\n<li>Surfers also attach a leash to the ankle of their back foot. This is an important safeguard in the ocean since it keeps your board near you even when you bail out on a wave.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t loose your board!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In the same way, Christians need to be prepared.\u00a0 We need to be ready to meet problems head-on instead of sweeping them under the rug.\u00a0 Remember what David did when he encountered Goliath.\u00a0 He went straight toward him (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+Samuel+17&amp;version=NLT\" target=\"_blank\">1 Samuel 17<\/a>).\u00a0 Saul&#8217;s\u00a0 army was frozen in fear.\u00a0 They weren&#8217;t moving forward or backwards.\u00a0 They were paralyzed.<\/p>\n<p>But David went straight at that 9 foot wave and God gave him the victory.<\/p>\n<p>We can move towards the waves when we keep our focus on God&#8230;<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-bio'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><span style=\"color: #000000;\">During the days of the prophet Jeremiah, Israel was in despair. The Northern Kingdom had been taken captive by the Assyrians and destroyed.\u00a0 The Southern Kingdom of Israel was now being taken captive by King Nebuchadnezzar and the Babylonian Empire.\u00a0 While the walls of Jerusalem and the Temple were being destroyed, we see the people lamenting and in anguish through Jeremiah&#8217;s prophecy (as well as the book of Lamentations which Jeremiah also wrote).\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The attack by King Nebuchadnezzar came in threes.\u00a0 Each attack on Jerusalem is viewed as a &#8220;wave.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">HOWEVER&#8230; Israel kept a focus on God, and God offered this promise through Jeremiah&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Jeremiah+33%3A1-9&amp;version=NLT\" target=\"_blank\">Jeremiah 33:6-8<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Behold, I will bring it health and healing; I will heal them and reveal to them the abundance of peace and truth.\u00a0 And I will cause the captives of Judah and the captives of Israel to return, and will rebuild those places as at the first.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 NKJV<\/p>\n<\/blockquote><\/div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000080;\">3: We Must Stand on a Surfboard<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>We need to face problems head on, but we do need to be prepared.\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Ephesians+6%3A10-18&amp;version=NLT\" target=\"_blank\">Ephesians 6:10-18<\/a><\/span> is the Bible&#8217;s answer to the Boy Scouts motto; it tells us how to be prepared for problems before they arise:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Therefore, put on every piece of God&#8217;s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Stand your ground, putting on the <span style=\"background-color: #ffff99;\">belt of truth<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">and the body armor of God&#8217;s <span style=\"background-color: #ffff99;\">righteousness<\/span>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">For shoes, put on the <span style=\"background-color: #ffff99;\">peace that comes from the Good News<\/span> so that you will be fully prepared.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In addition to all of these, hold up the <span style=\"background-color: #ffff99;\">shield of faith<\/span> to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Put on <span style=\"background-color: #ffff99;\">salvation<\/span> as your helmet,<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">and take the <span style=\"background-color: #ffff99;\">sword of the Spirit,<\/span> which is the word of God.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #808080; font-size: 10pt;\">Holy Bible, New Living Translation \u00ae, copyright \u00a9 1996, 2004 by Tyndale Charitable Trust. All rights reserved.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Jesus is our Surf Board who will carry us through the Waves (problems) that we encounter.\u00a0 We need to practice habits like daily Bible reading and prayer which help us to stay on the board.\u00a0 We need daily &#8220;spiritual workouts.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Too many people don&#8217;t take the &#8220;Surfboard&#8221; seriously enough.\u00a0 Too many are &#8220;<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Sitting on the Premisses<\/em><\/span><\/strong>&#8221; instead of &#8220;<strong><em><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Standing on the Promises<\/span><\/em><\/strong>.&#8221;\u00a0 We need to stand on the Word of God.\u00a0 That&#8217;s what gives us the ability to ride out waves.\u00a0 The Word of God (from Jesus), gave Peter the confidence and strength to get out of the boat.\u00a0 God cares about every detail of our lives.\u00a0 We need God!\u00a0 He will give us the strength to ride out every storm of life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #008000;\">&#8220;Jesus is the Answer.\u00a0 Above Him there&#8217;s no other.\u00a0 Jesus is the way&#8221;<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000080;\">4:\u00a0 We&#8217;re Going to Get Knocked Off Sometimes<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Big waves will come along, and there will be times when we will momentarily get knocked off our Surfboard.\u00a0 When we take our eyes off of Jesus, or loose our grounding in the Word, we&#8217;ll be susceptible to temptation.\u00a0 Not knowing the Word and loosing focus on Jesus will take away our balance and we&#8217;ll be more likely to fall off.<\/p>\n<p>But faith (and that leash built by daily workouts) will allow us to climb back on the Surfboard.\u00a0 To get back on the Surfboard, we must reach out; just as Peter cried out to the Lord before He saved him.<\/p>\n<p>If we neglect daily Bible reading and prayer (those daily workouts), we&#8217;ll become spiritually off balanced. But as we grow in our relationship with God, as we increase in biblical knowledge, as our spirit comes more in tune the the Holy Spirit, we are able to maintain &#8220;Spiritual Balance&#8221; in our lives.\u00a0 The Psalmist writes in Psalm 119:37, we need to work on keeping our balance&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Turn away my eyes from beholding vanity, and revive me in Your way.<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Working out to develop our Spiritual Balance gives us the faith that allows us to reach out and climb back on the Surfboard.<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-download'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/0310309409\/?tag=mh0b-20&amp;hvadid=3489087747&amp;hvqmt=p&amp;hvbmt=bp&amp;hvdev=c&amp;ref=pd_sl_99fa9fqm2r_p\" target=\"_blank\">J. Dwight Pentecost<\/a> commented on Peter&#8217;s &#8220;surfing faith&#8221; in his book &#8220;The Words and Works of Jesus Christ&#8221;:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;Peter demonstrated faith that Christ could sustain him when he walked in obedience to His commands, for the storm had not subsided, the winds had not quieted, and the waves had not stilled.\u00a0 Suddenly the thing that had brought such fear to Peter no longer terrified him.\u00a0 Peter could face it with confidence because of the command of Christ.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For you and me, the storms will come into our lives.\u00a0\u00a0 Our faith is not a guarantee\u00a0 that our life will be one of ease, comfort, and pleasure.\u00a0 We see &#8220;wipeouts&#8221; over and over in the Bible:<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t<div class='tabs-left et_sliderfx_fade et_sliderauto_false et_sliderauto_speed_5000 et_slidertype_left_tabs clearfix'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et_left_tabs_bg'><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<ul class='et-tabs-control'>\n\t\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tJOB\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tJEREMIAH\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tDAVID\n\t\t<\/a><\/li>\n\t\t<\/ul> <!-- .et-tabs-control --> \n\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content'>\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-main-wrap'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-wrapper'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tWhen Job&#8217;s &#8220;friend&#8221; tries to explain his suffering, he uses a water metaphor (Job 22:11)&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">That is why you cannot see in the darkness, and waves of water cover you.<\/span><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 NLT\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tLamentations 3:52-54&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">My enemies, whom I have never harmed, hunted me down like a bird. They threw me into a pit and dropped stones on me. The water rose over my head, and I cried out, &#8220;This is the end!&#8221;<\/span><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 NLT\n\t\t<\/div>\n<p>\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tPsalm 69:1-2&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Save me, O God, for the floodwaters are up to my neck.\u00a0 Deeper and deeper I sink into the mire; I can&#8217;t find a foothold. I am in deep water, and the floods overwhelm me.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong>NLT\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div> <!-- .tabs-left -->\n<p>Wipeouts will happen.\u00a0 But Christ has promised to be our <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=8127\" target=\"_blank\">Lifeguard<\/a><\/span> and to pull us out of the water.\u00a0 We just have to keep the Surfboard close by (Matthew 14:27)&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">But Jesus spoke to them at once.<br \/>\n&#8220;Don&#8217;t be afraid,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Take courage. I am here!&#8221;<\/span> <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000080;\">5: We Will Finish Out the Ride<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Once Peter was back in the boat, the wind and waves stopped.\u00a0 What do you do when the storm is over?\u00a0 When the lights come back on after having lost electrical power for a week, you might thank the electric company workers.\u00a0 But when we realize that Jesus has carried us through (yet another) storm, our only response is to worship\u00a0 Him and to be joyous that God gave us waves to ride, and to be thankful that He brought us through them.<\/p>\n<p>And this is what the disciples did.\u00a0 God wants us to enjoy the ride!<\/p>\n<p>Bad things will happen in life, but we don&#8217;t have to sink- we are <em>in<\/em> the world but not <em>of<\/em> the world.\u00a0 Our minds should be set on Christ, knowing that every day is a gift from God&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Eccl+3%3A9-13&amp;version=NLT\" target=\"_blank\">Ecclesiastes 3:12-13<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">So I concluded there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can. <\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor,<span style=\"background-color: #ffff99;\"> for these are gifts from God<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 NLT<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When we get knocked off the board, God tells us to get back out there!\u00a0 And more than that, He&#8217;ll give us another wave to ride.\u00a0 We can enjoy every moment of our lives.\u00a0 Every day we have is a gift from God.\u00a0 Paul tells the Philippians to focus on Christ and the strength He has; not on ourselves and the weaknesses we endure&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Philippians+4%3A10-14&amp;version=NLT\" target=\"_blank\">Philippians 4:11-13<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have.\u00a0 I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.\u00a0 For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/strong> NLT<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Don&#8217;t complain about having too little.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t complain about the big waves or the wipeouts.\u00a0 Is there anything in your life that can completely take you out?\u00a0 No!\u00a0 We can stand strong and ride ashore safely.\u00a0 Focus on Christ and God&#8217;s gift of life, and then Christ will give us the strength to get back on the board and to ride out the waves.<\/p>\n<p>Even with the wave we call &#8220;death&#8221;- there&#8217;s a dry shore that we&#8217;ll arrive on.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Conclusion&#8230;<\/span><\/h3>\n<div class='et-box et-warning'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In December 1940, Mrs. AD Gadsby of Niagra Falls Canada mailed a Christmas parcel to her daughter in Prestwick Scotland. The ship carrying the mail was torpedoed off the west coast of Ireland.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">But a favorable tide floated the package and unerringly cast it ashore on the beach of Prestwick.\u00a0 The contents were soaked but perfectly useable.\u00a0 The adress was still legible, and the package reached the addressee.<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n<p>So it is as we surf through this life upon God&#8217;s Surfboard which we call Jesus.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve been &#8220;stamped&#8221;
