You shall carry them over with you and leave them in the lodging place where you lodge tonight.'&#8221; <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">4 Then Joshua called the twelve men whom he had appointed from the children of Israel, one man from every tribe; and Joshua said to them: &#8220;Cross over before the ark of the Lord your God into the midst of the Jordan, and each one of you take up a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel,\u00a0 that this may be a sign among you when your children ask in time to come, saying, &#8216;What do these stones mean to you?&#8217;\u00a0 Then you shall answer them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord; when it crossed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. And these stones shall be for a memorial to the children of Israel forever.&#8221;<\/span>\nNKJV<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<div class='et-box et-shadow'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In April of 1865, in Columbus, Mississippi after decorating the graves of her two sons, a woman and a friend walked to two graves at the corner of the cemetery.\u00a0 The friend\u00a0 said with alarm, &#8220;What are you doing?\u00a0 Those are the graves of two Union soldiers.&#8221;\u00a0 The mother replied, &#8220;I know.\u00a0 I also know that somewhere in the North, a mother or a young wife mourns for them as we do for ours.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Historians suggest that this was the seed which set in motion what in 1868 became Memorial Day.<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Remember: Freedom from Sin Isn&#8217;t Free<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Memorial Day is often seen simply as the start of the summer season.\u00a0 But it has a deeper meaning.\u00a0 Memorial Day was established in 1868 to honor the fallen soldiers of the Civil War.\u00a0 It has grown to become a solemn recognition of all of our nation&#8217;s\u00a0 war dead and the high price of our freedom.<\/p>\n<p>Our freedom is not cheap.\u00a0 Despite the commercialism and &#8220;re-writing&#8221; of the Bible, we need to remember.\u00a0 Remember our soldiers.\u00a0 Remember also what God has done for us.<\/p>\n<p>A memorial helps us keep a memory of something or someone significant that has happened alive in our hearts and minds.\u00a0 Not to live in the past, but to sharpen values and march into the future.\u00a0 &#8220;<strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">The memory of the righteous is a blessing.<\/span><\/em><\/strong>&#8221;\u00a0 All throughout the Bible God has ordained that there would be memorials.\u00a0 He has instituted the practice of building and having memorials in our life.\u00a0 it is beneficial for us to remember the things that Jesus has done in each of our lives.<\/p>\n<p>In a Biblical sense, a memorial is a sacrifice; it&#8217;s something that reminds us of what God has done.\u00a0 We have been given victories because we have been faithful to God.\u00a0 We need to reclaim that.<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-info'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The word &#8220;memorial&#8221; in scripture comes from the word that means to prick, to pierce, or to penetrate the memory<\/span>.<\/div><\/div>\n<p>Even in our own society, we have set up Memorials to help us remember the sacrifices of others and to &#8220;prick&#8221; or &#8220;pierce&#8221; us into working to complete the work that the sacrifice began.\u00a0 And they remind us to share these truths with our children.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">In the future your children will ask you, &#8216;What do these stones mean?&#8217;<\/span> <\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nJoshua 4:6, NLT<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Those stones became memorials so we could explain the things of God to our children.<\/p>\n<h4><em><span style=\"color: #003300;\">\u00a0What would you tell your children if they you asked about&#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/h4>\n\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-container et_sliderfx_fade et_sliderauto_false et_sliderauto_speed_5000 et_slidertype_top_tabs'>\n\t\t\t\t<ul class='et-tabs-control'>\n\t\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\t1\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\t2\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\t3\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\t4\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\t5\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\t6\n\t\t<\/a><\/li>\n\t\t<\/ul> <!-- .et-tabs-control --> \n\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content'>\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-main-wrap'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-wrapper'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Abraham Lincoln&#8230;<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Memorial-Lincoln-_IMG_1869.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-7183\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Memorial-Lincoln-_IMG_1869-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Memorial Lincoln _IMG_1869\" width=\"179\" height=\"134\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Memorial-Lincoln-_IMG_1869-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Memorial-Lincoln-_IMG_1869.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 179px) 100vw, 179px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At the western end of the Washington Mall stands the Lincoln Memorial.\u00a0 If your son asked you &#8220;What&#8217;s that building?&#8221;, could you&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Talk about a man who rose at 4:00 AM every morning to pray for the nation he was trying to hold together?<\/li>\n<li>Describe the inhumanity of slavery and the injustice of Jim Crow and how this man and this spot is &#8220;holy ground&#8221; for the rights of all Americans?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Memorial-Vet-Stadium-Plate-_IMG_1845.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-7186\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Memorial-Vet-Stadium-Plate-_IMG_1845-300x292.jpg\" alt=\"Memorial Vet Stadium Plate _IMG_1845\" width=\"179\" height=\"174\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Memorial-Vet-Stadium-Plate-_IMG_1845-300x292.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Memorial-Vet-Stadium-Plate-_IMG_1845.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 179px) 100vw, 179px\" \/><\/a><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Veterans Memorial Stadium&#8230;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Embedded in the middle of the parking lot next to Citizen&#8217;s Bank Park, is a monument marking the location of the home plate which was once in a place called Veterans Stadium.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Would this monument prompt you to tell your kids about your parents and how they took you to Phillies or Eagles games many years ago?<\/li>\n<li>Would you use this moment as an opening to talk about sacrificial love and putting others first?<\/li>\n<li>Would this monument even encourage you to give more of your time to your kids?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">George Washington<a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Memorial-Washington-_IMG_1918.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-7184\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Memorial-Washington-_IMG_1918-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Memorial Washington _IMG_1918\" width=\"184\" height=\"138\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Memorial-Washington-_IMG_1918-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Memorial-Washington-_IMG_1918.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 184px) 100vw, 184px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dominating the skyline of our nation&#8217;s capital is the Washington Monument.\u00a0 If your daughter asked you, &#8220;Why did they build that tall stick in the middle of the mall?&#8221; could you&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Describe a cold winter in Valley Forge and explain that freedom isn&#8217;t free?<\/li>\n<li>Speak of a man who was willing to give his life on a battlefield to save his people from the tyranny of a king?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Martin Luther King <a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Memorial-ML-King-_IMG_1881.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-7185\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Memorial-ML-King-_IMG_1881-218x300.jpg\" alt=\"Memorial-ML King _IMG_1881\" width=\"131\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Memorial-ML-King-_IMG_1881-218x300.jpg 218w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Memorial-ML-King-_IMG_1881.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 131px) 100vw, 131px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Near the tidal basin is a statue of Martin Luther King.\u00a0 The statue appears unfinished, just as the work of justice on earth can never be finished by mankind alone.\u00a0 If a child you don&#8217;t know suddenly came up to you and asked who that man is, could you&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Speak of a man who constantly put himself in danger for the cause of freedom?<\/li>\n<li>Speak of a cause which must be completed by those who came after him?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Korean War Soldiers <a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Memorial-Korean-War-_IMG_1874.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-7182\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Memorial-Korean-War-_IMG_1874-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Memorial Korean War _IMG_1874\" width=\"200\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Memorial-Korean-War-_IMG_1874-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Memorial-Korean-War-_IMG_1874.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On the southern side of the mall, not far from the Lincoln Memorial, stands a collection of statues depicting soldiers in a field.\u00a0 The soldiers are wearing heavy coats and are moving with great effort towards some unnamed goal.\u00a0 If your kids asked you, &#8220;what are those men doing?&#8221; We need to remember their witness. We need to remind ourselves and our children of the faith of those who nurtured us.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">One such example were Ed and Marge Blackman.\u00a0 For years they led the Junior choir.\u00a0 All their lives, their faith spoke as a loud testimony to Jesus Christ.\u00a0 Outside our sanctuary exit is a plot of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=1847\" target=\"_blank\">azaleas<\/a><\/span> given in memory and in honor of the Blackmans.\u00a0 Remember.<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<p>Freedom for a nation did not come without cost, and continuing to remain a free nation does not come without cost.\u00a0 Likewise, freedom from sin came with a grace that was not won without pain and suffering.\u00a0 Like the stones which once rested on the bottom of the Jordan River, we must remind ourselves and our children of our God who loves us and wants to restore us to an ever closer relationship with Him.<\/p>\n<p>We must remember that God&#8217;s freedom in Christ is not entitled.\u00a0 A price was paid, and we must give back.<\/p>\n<p>If we don&#8217;t teach our children, what are they going to remember?\u00a0 What kind of church will we have?\u00a0 Are we passing along the Truth of God and our witness?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Remember:\u00a0\u00a0 God Keeps His Promises<br \/>\n<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>If we look back at Joshua chapter 3, we see that God&#8217;s people needed to cross the Jordan Riven in order to enter the Promised Land, but they could not cross because it was at flood stage.\u00a0 In Joshua 3:3, God told Joshua that as soon as the priests stepped out in faith and dipped their feet into the water that the river would recede and stop flowing, and then the people would be able to cross over on dry land.<\/p>\n<p>In Joshua 4, we see that God came through and did what He said He&#8217;d do; the Israelites crossed the Jordan on dry land.\u00a0 The command to make the memorial was to show anyone who later passed by that these stones had indeed come from the bottom of the river and that God had performed this great miracle for His people.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Remember: The Things God has Done in our Midst<br \/>\n<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>The stones served as a long term reminder to the children of those who witnessed the miracle.\u00a0 God has done marvelous things for us, and we need to remember them.<\/p>\n<p>Deuteronomy 6:12 says&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Beware, lest you forget the Lord who brought you out of the land of Egypt,\u00a0 from the house of bondage.&#8221;<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Why were the Israelites (and us) commanded to remember what God has done for us?\u00a0 Well, immediately following Deuteronomy 6:12, we read&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8220;You shall fear the Lord your God and serve Him&#8230; You shall not go after other gods, the gods of the\u00a0 peoples who are all\u00a0 around you.&#8221;<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>If they failed to remember what the Lord had done for them, then they could easily forget about God altogether and do their own thing&#8230; and so can we.\u00a0 If we forget what God has done, we substitute ourselves and our own abilities for God&#8217;s, and that turns into idolatry.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Remember: Our Humble Past<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>God has done mighty things for us, but we also need to remember that we couldn&#8217;t survive unless God had done these things.\u00a0 God&#8217;s power, God&#8217;s grace, God&#8217;s provision are things we can&#8217;t do ourselves.\u00a0 We need God, and we need to remember that we are powerless without Him.<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-bio'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.christianbookstore.net\/if-you-want-god-to-help-you\/catalog-107409\/\" target=\"_blank\">Derrick Rhodes<\/a><\/span> writes of a certain Persian king was elevated from a poverty-stricken home to the glory of a royal throne.\u00a0 After he became king he sent his servants to the old shack where he was reared, with orders to gather every relic of those days.\u00a0 They brought fragments of his home: many broken toys, his patched shirt, a crude wooden bowl from which he ate, and numerous worthless mementos of his childhood. All these he arranged in a special room of his palace, and each day he spent at least one hour sitting among the memories of his humble past.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">On the wall hung a prayer:\u00a0 <em><strong>Lest I Forget.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/div><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It&#8217;s very important for we who have experienced God&#8217;s working in our lives to remember and tell all whom we know, about how God has made Himself real to us.\u00a0 Talk about our beginnings.\u00a0 Witness to how God has saved us.\u00a0 Remember our past so we (or our children) don&#8217;t repeat the same mistakes.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Remember: Our Responsibilities to Our Kids<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>We need to actively teach our children the truths of God.\u00a0 God gave us\u00a0 the stones by the Jordan River and all of the Memorials we have in our own lives to be a teaching tool.\u00a0 When children ask about them, we can tell them and teach them about the power of God.<\/p>\n<p>Deuteronomy 6:7-9 and 20-25&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><div class='et-box et-shadow'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><span style=\"color: #000000;\">And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today.\u00a0 <span style=\"background-color: #ffcc00;\">Repeat them again and again to your children<\/span>. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.\u00a0 Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. \u00a0 Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8212;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;In the future your children will ask you, &#8216;What is the meaning of these laws, decrees, and regulations that the Lord our God has commanded us to obey?&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;<span style=\"background-color: #ffcc00;\">Then you must tell them<\/span>, &#8216;We were Pharaoh&#8217;s slaves in Egypt, but the Lord brought us out of Egypt with his strong hand.\u00a0 The Lord did miraculous signs and wonders before our eyes, dealing terrifying blows against Egypt and Pharaoh and all his people. He brought us out of Egypt so he could give us this land he had sworn to give our ancestors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">And the Lord our God commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear him so he can continue to bless us and preserve our lives, as he has done to this day.\u00a0 For we will be counted as righteous when we obey all the commands the Lord our God has given us.&#8217;<\/span>\u00a0 NLT<\/div><\/div><\/p>\n<p>God has commanded us to teach our children.\u00a0 We are called to actively train our children; not just to simply expose them to &#8220;Christian-Type&#8221; teaching and hope they&#8217;ll make the right decision.\u00a0 Here are some other verses to consider (<span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\"><em>all quotes are from the New Living Testament<\/em><\/span>):<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t<div class='tabs-left et_sliderfx_fade et_sliderauto_false et_sliderauto_speed_5000 et_slidertype_left_tabs clearfix'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et_left_tabs_bg'><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<ul class='et-tabs-control'>\n\t\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tPsalm 78:4-6\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tEphesians 4:29\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tExodus 12:26-27\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tExodus 13:14-15\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tDeuteronomy 4:9-10\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tDeuteronomy 11:19\n\t\t<\/a><\/li>\n\t\t<\/ul> <!-- .et-tabs-control --> \n\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content'>\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-main-wrap'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-wrapper'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tWe will not hide these truths from our children; we will <span style=\"background-color: #ffcc00;\">tell the next generation<\/span> about the glorious deeds of the Lord, about his power and his mighty wonders. \u00a0 For he issued his laws to Jacob; he gave his instructions to Israel. He commanded our ancestors to teach them to their children,\u00a0 so the next generation might know them\u2014 even the children not yet born\u2014 and they in turn will teach their own children.\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tDon&#8217;t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an <span style=\"background-color: #ffcc00;\">encouragement to those who hear them.<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<span style=\"background-color: #ffcc00;\">Then your children will ask<\/span>, &#8216;What does this ceremony mean?&#8217;\u00a0 And you will reply, &#8216;It is the Passover sacrifice to the Lord, for he passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt. And though he struck the Egyptians, he spared our families.'&#8221; When Moses had finished speaking, all the people bowed down to the ground and worshiped.\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t&#8220;And in the future, your children will ask you, &#8216;What does all this mean?&#8217; <span style=\"background-color: #ffcc00;\">Then you will tell them<\/span>, &#8216;With the power of his mighty hand, the Lord brought us out of Egypt, the place of our slavery. \u00a0 Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, so the Lord killed all the firstborn males throughout the land of Egypt, both people and animals. That is why I now sacrifice all the firstborn males to the Lord\u2014except that the firstborn sons are always bought back.&#8217;\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t&#8220;But watch out! Be careful never to forget what you yourself have seen. Do not let these memories escape from your mind as long as you live! And be sure to <span style=\"background-color: #ffcc00;\">pass them on to your children<\/span> and grandchildren.\u00a0 Never forget the day when you stood before the Lord your God at Mount Sinai, where he told me, &#8216;Summon the people before me, and I will personally instruct them. Then they will learn to fear me as long as they live, and they will <span style=\"background-color: #ffcc00;\">teach their children<\/span> to fear me also.&#8217;\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<span style=\"background-color: #ffcc00;\">Teach them to your children<\/span>. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div> <!-- .tabs-left -->\n<p>During our service of Baptism, the entire church promises to remind and teach our children the things of God.\u00a0 We are responsible.\u00a0 We can&#8217;t just back off and hope they make the right decisions by themselves.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Build a Memorial<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Sit down with your kids and have a good chat.\u00a0 The men and women who wore the uniform are fulfilling the words of Jesus Christ:\u00a0 &#8220;No one has more love than those who would lay down their lives for their friends.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Susanna Wesley was the mother of 19 kids.\u00a0 Regrettably, 8 of them died in infancy.\u00a0\u00a0 Yet she was faithful in teaching her children the ways of the Lord and the memorials which God had set in place for His people.\u00a0 Two of her children were John Wesley the founder of Methodism and Charles Wesley who wrote over 8,000 hymns.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Chapel-In-Rememberance-of-Me-_1102040852.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-4456\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Chapel-In-Rememberance-of-Me-_1102040852-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Chapel In Rememberance of Me _1102040852\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Chapel-In-Rememberance-of-Me-_1102040852-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Chapel-In-Rememberance-of-Me-_1102040852-178x178.jpg 178w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Chapel-In-Rememberance-of-Me-_1102040852-184x184.jpg 184w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a>Like the Israelites who crossed the Jordan, we need to set up spiritual stones or markers that help us reflect on how God has come through for us and has cared for us.\u00a0 One of the great spiritual markers that Israel set up that helped people to remember their deliverance from bondage in Egypt was the yearly celebration of the Passover (see Exodus 12:1-32).\u00a0 In a similar way, we Christians remember Jesus&#8217; great sacrifice for us whenever we observe the Lord&#8217;s Supper (Luke 22:7-23).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Has God ever healed your body?\u00a0 BUILD A MEMORIAL!<\/li>\n<li>Has God delivered you from alcohol\u00a0 or drugs?\u00a0 BUILD A MEMORIAL!<\/li>\n<li>Has God delivered you from cigarettes?\u00a0 BUILD A MEMORIAL!<\/li>\n<li>Has God filled you with the Holy Spirit?\u00a0 BUILD A MEMORIAL!<\/li>\n<li>Has God ever blessed you in any way?\u00a0 BUILD A MEMORIAL!!!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In 1 Peter 2:5 we read how we are to become as &#8220;Living Stones&#8221; to the entire world.\u00a0 Let us live in such a way that people see something different from the rest of the scenery, like those stones that were out of place on the river bank.<\/p>\n<p>Then they will look at us and ask, &#8220;What do these stones mean?\u00a0 What does this change in your life mean?&#8221;\u00a0 And then we will be able to share with them concerning the love and forgiveness that we have found in Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n<p>Remember&#8230;
