for all of your hard work throughout the year and the years.\u00a0 For those of us whose Moms are no longer with us, we still obey the fifth commandment.<\/p>\n<p>Is it fair to say that we probably don&#8217;t say &#8220;thanks&#8221; frequently enough?<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-shadow'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A man was feeling guilty because he had not been very attentive to his wife.\u00a0 He decided to change.\u00a0 On his way home\u00a0 from\u00a0 work he\u00a0 bought a box of candy and some flowers to surprise his wife.\u00a0 He walks up the\u00a0 the door and rings the doorbell.\u00a0 She opens it,\u00a0 and there he stands,\u00a0 candy in one hand,\u00a0 flowers in the other,\u00a0 singing, &#8220;Have I\u00a0 told you lately that I love you?&#8221;\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Instantly she starts crying, big old tears just gushing out of her eyes. She sobs,\u00a0 &#8220;Oh, Harry!\u00a0 Everything went wrong today.\u00a0 We had a leak in the plumbing. The kids were terrible.\u00a0 The house is a wreck.\u00a0 And now you come home drunk!<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n<p>Knowing how to honor someone becomes difficult when we&#8217;re &#8220;out of practice.&#8221;\u00a0 Reception of those expressions of honor are greeted with suspicion if we step outside of our normal behavior to honor someone.<\/p>\n<p>And yet, Godly Moms- and God Himself- honor us with their love continuously.\u00a0 They serve as models that we should study, live, and imitate.<\/p>\n<p>God provides for our every need and loves us so much that He gave His only Son to die for us.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s a humorous analogy of a powerful truth:<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t<div class='tabs-left et_sliderfx_fade et_sliderauto_false et_sliderauto_speed_5000 et_slidertype_left_tabs clearfix'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et_left_tabs_bg'><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<ul class='et-tabs-control'>\n\t\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tEngine\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tBattery\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tCarburetor\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tBrakes\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tFuel\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tChassis\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tTune Ups\n\t\t<\/a><\/li>\n\t\t<\/ul> <!-- .et-tabs-control --> \n\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content'>\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-main-wrap'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-wrapper'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tA mother&#8217;s engine is one of the most dependable kinds you can find. She can reach a top speed from a prone position at a single cry from a sleeping child.<\/p>\n<p>Mothers need a hot bath and a nap every 100 miles, a baby-sitter and a night out every 1000 miles, and a live in baby sitter with a one week vacation every 10,000 miles.\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tMothers&#8217; batteries should be recharged regularly. Handmade items, notes, unexpected hugs and kisses, and frequent &#8220;I love you&#8221;s will do very well for a recharge.\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tWhen a mother&#8217;s carburetor (remember them?) floods, it should be treated immediately with Kleenex and a soft shoulder.\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tSee that she uses her brakes to slow down often and come to a full stop occasionally.\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tMost mothers can run indefinitely on coffee, leftovers, and salads. But an occasional dinner for two at a nice restaurant will really add to her efficiency.\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tTimes for walks and regular exercise should be provided and encouraged. Understanding and encouragement for a change in hairdoes help too.\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tMothers need regular tune-ups. Compliments are both the cheapest and most effective way to keep a mother purring contentedly.\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div> <!-- .tabs-left -->\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Moms are honored in the little things.\u00a0 God is honored in our obedience.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">2: God&#8217;s\u00a0 Protection<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>In Isaiah 66:10-14, we are reminded by the prophet that God wants us to KNOW Him&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;Rejoice with Jerusalem and be glad for her,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">all you who love her;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">rejoice greatly with her,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">all you who mourn over her. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">For you will nurse and be satisfied<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">at her comforting breasts;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">you will drink deeply<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">and delight in her overflowing abundance.&#8221; <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">For this is what the Lord says:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;I will extend peace to her like a river,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">and the wealth of nations like a flooding stream;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">you will nurse and be carried on her arm<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">and dandled on her knees. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0As a mother comforts her child,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">so will I comfort you;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">and you will be comforted over Jerusalem.&#8221; <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">When you see this, your heart will rejoice<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">and you will flourish like grass;<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">the hand of the Lord will be made known to his servants,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">but his fury will be shown to his foes.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>As we honor motherhood today, it is good to remind ourselves of how\u00a0 God uses motherhood to describe Himself here in\u00a0 Isaiah and throughout the Scriptures.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8220;The image here is of a God demonstrating a maternal\u00a0 love.\u00a0 While we may demonstrate a strong love here on earth, human love is but a shadow of the infinite love of Jehovah.&#8221;<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0 Charles Endicott (19th century English theologian)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Isaiah reminds God&#8217;s people that &#8220;Jehovah will comfort His people just as a mother comforts her child.\u00a0 Clement of Alexandria commented, &#8216;Comfort&#8217; can connote bringing it&#8217;s people home,\u00a0 rebuilding the ruins, or transforming the waste places into a virtual paradise.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Isaiah gives us many examples of how God protects and comforts us.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<div class='et-simple-slider et_sliderfx_fade et_sliderauto_false et_sliderauto_speed_5000 et_slidertype_simple'>\n\t\t\t<div class='et-simple-slides'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-wrapper'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<strong><span style=\"color: #808000;\">Isaiah 49:13<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0 Shout for joy, O heavens; rejoice, O earth; burst into song, O mountains! For the Lord comforts his people and will have compassion on his afflicted ones.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<strong><span style=\"color: #808000;\">Isaiah 51:3<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0 The Lord will surely comfort Zion and will look with compassion on all her ruins; he will make her deserts like Eden, her wastelands like the garden of the Lord. Joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the sound of singing.\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<strong><span style=\"color: #808000;\">Isaiah 52:9<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0 Burst into songs of joy together, you ruins of Jerusalem, for the Lord has comforted his people, he has redeemed Jerusalem.\n\t\t<\/div><\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<strong><span style=\"color: #808000;\">Isaiah 54:11<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0 &#8220;O afflicted city, lashed by storms and not comforted, I will build you with stones of turquoise, your foundations with sapphires.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div> <!-- .et-simple-slider -->\n\t\t\n<p>And, we can also reflect on Jesus&#8217; words of Matthew 23:37&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #800080; font-size: 14pt;\">O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Deuteronomy 32:10-11 uses the same language to demonstrate this love&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #800080; font-size: 14pt;\">In a desert land he found him,\u00a0 in a barren and howling waste.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080; font-size: 14pt;\">He shielded him and cared for him;\u00a0 he guarded him as the apple of his eye. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080; font-size: 14pt;\">Like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080; font-size: 14pt;\">that spreads its wings to catch them and carries them on its pinions. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Mothers give us similar examples.\u00a0 The next time you are surrounded by the embrace of a loving wife or mother; or the next time you recall\u00a0 the love and comfort once given to you by anyone, remember that it is only a model of the immense love and protection God has with you.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">3: God&#8217;s Presence<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Consider the mother&#8217;s touch.\u00a0 In the\u00a0 family,\u00a0 it&#8217;s\u00a0 usually the mother who is desired by the child who is hurt or sick to &#8220;kiss\u00a0 the pain away.&#8221;\u00a0 It is the mother who is first willing to stay up all\u00a0 night to comfort the fevered child.<\/p>\n<p>Consider the touch\u00a0 of Christ.\u00a0 When you have time, do an analysis of how many times Jesus &#8220;touched&#8221; and it&#8217;s no wonder!<\/p>\n<p>I thank God for my mother,\u00a0 who gave me life, and for the mother of my children who gave them life and continues to be a Godly example for them.\u00a0 I also praise God for all of the Godly women who have helped me and assisted me in my journey thus far.<\/p>\n<p>But most of all, I thank God for providing us with Jesus Christ, who has given us <em>eternal<\/em> life!<\/p>\n<p>Remember the good things from Mom.\u00a0 Also remember God.\u00a0 Then, pass it on.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">\u00a0Quiz Time!<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #000080;\">As you reflect on what you&#8217;ve just heard\/read, give this quiz a try.\u00a0 If you don&#8217;t understand an answer (or if you disagree with the &#8220;correct&#8221;
