{"id":5100,"date":"2015-12-20T21:59:39","date_gmt":"2015-12-21T01:59:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=5100"},"modified":"2015-12-26T16:38:04","modified_gmt":"2015-12-26T20:38:04","slug":"christmas-eve-services-122414","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=5100","title":{"rendered":"Christmas Eve Services (12\/24\/15)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Christmas is finally upon us!\u00a0 We will celebrate the eve before Christ&#8217;s birth with two Christmas Eve services.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #003300;\">Family Service, 4:00 PM<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The fist service will be a casual family service and will be held at 4:00 PM.\u00a0 The service will feature carols and Bible readings.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Traditional Candlelight Service, 7:30 PM<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The second service will begin with our annual &#8220;Christmas Band&#8221; and the singing of many favorite Christmas Carols and Praise Choruses.\u00a0 The choir will sing and Pastor Jim will give the message.\u00a0 His scripture will be from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=luke+2%3A1-20&amp;version=TLB\" target=\"_blank\">Luke 2:1-20<\/a>\u00a0 (open the following &#8220;drop down box&#8221; to read this familiar passage)&#8230;<\/p>\n<div class='et-learn-more clearfix'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class='heading-more'>Luke 2<span class='et_learnmore_arrow'><span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='learn-more-content'><p>Luke 2:1-20<\/p>\n<p>1 At that time the Roman emperor, Augustus, decreed that a census should be taken throughout the Roman Empire.<\/p>\n<p>2 (This was the first census taken when Quirinius was governor of Syria.)<\/p>\n<p>3 All returned to their own ancestral towns to register for this census.<\/p>\n<p>4 And because Joseph was a descendant of King David, he had to go to Bethlehem in Judea, David&#8217;s ancient home. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them.<\/p>\n<p>8 That night there were shepherds staying in the fields nearby, guarding their flocks of sheep.<\/p>\n<p>9 Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord&#8217;s glory surrounded them. They were terrified,<\/p>\n<p>10 but the angel reassured them. &#8220;Don&#8217;t be afraid!&#8221; he said. &#8220;I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-9777\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/OFH-Christmas-2015-12-10-Angels-_IMG_2726-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"OFH Christmas 2015-12-10 Angels _IMG_2726\" width=\"199\" height=\"149\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/OFH-Christmas-2015-12-10-Angels-_IMG_2726-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/OFH-Christmas-2015-12-10-Angels-_IMG_2726.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>11 The Savior\u2014yes, the Messiah, the Lord\u2014has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!<\/p>\n<p>12 And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>13 Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others\u2014the armies of heaven\u2014praising God and saying,<\/p>\n<p>14 &#8220;Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>15 When the angels had returned to heaven, the shepherds said to each other, &#8220;Let&#8217;s go to Bethlehem! Let&#8217;s see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>16 They hurried to the village and found Mary and Joseph. It was just as the angel had told them.<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The title of Pastor Jim&#8217;s sermon is &#8220;Just Believe&#8221;\u00a0 (inspired by the Josh Groban song).
