{"id":4553,"date":"2014-11-15T13:45:45","date_gmt":"2014-11-15T17:45:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=4553"},"modified":"2021-01-17T14:29:54","modified_gmt":"2021-01-17T19:29:54","slug":"pantry-keeps-feeding-pitman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=4553","title":{"rendered":"Pantry Keeps Feeding Pitman!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/turkey-23435__180.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-4514\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/turkey-23435__180.png\" alt=\"turkey-23435__180\" width=\"154\" height=\"75\" \/><\/a>As we enter this season of Thanksgiving, most of us will be enjoying dinner tables filled with more food than we can (or should) eat.\u00a0 If\u00a0 Thursday the 27th finds you gazing over piles of mashed potatoes, turkey, stuffing, and pumpkin pie, remember that many in our community aren&#8217;t able to do that.<\/p>\n<p>God has blessed us, so that we can bless others.\u00a0 And&#8230; God has blessed others so that we can be blessed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">God Answers Prayer Through His People&#8230;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>How can a loving God allow people to go without food?\u00a0 This is an oft-repeated question, especially if you&#8217;re the one who&#8217;s going through a tough time.\u00a0 We pray &#8220;give us this day our daily bread.&#8221;\u00a0 But have you considered, that maybe God answers that prayer by giving daily bread to others so that they can share with you?\u00a0 And if you are one of the people who can gaze over mountains of food on Thanksgiving Day, are you doing your part to share with others?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The Pitman Food Pantry&#8230;<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>The Pitman Food Pantry, located at the First Baptist Church, has been an ecumenical ministry of five local churches for 12 years.<\/p>\n<p>Each year, the number of people who come to the pantry for help increases, as the unemployed and underemployed find it increasingly difficult to provide food for their families.\u00a0\u00a0 So far this year, in 2014, we&#8217;re serving (on average) 246 families per month.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">God&#8217;s People Sharing&#8230;<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>We praise God that as the requests for food have grown, the interest in and support of the pantry has also grown.\u00a0 The number of dedicated volunteers and the contributions of food and money have truly been a blessing that has allowed us to continue this mission.\u00a0 Each week, our pantry cart in the Fellowship Hall is full.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">God&#8217;s People Receiving&#8230;<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>If you are one of the families receiving help from the pantry, know that God is with you.\u00a0 Jesus identified Himself with the poor and hungry&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Matt 25:34-36<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;Then the King will say to those on his right, &#8216;Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.\u00a0\u00a0 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,\u00a0 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.&#8217;<\/span><br \/>\nNIV<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The focus on this verse is usually placed on the people who are doing the giving.
